Black Screen bug when starting Ep 2 (PC version)

edited July 2012 in The Walking Dead
PC (Steam) version, Windows 7 32-bit here. Run as admin (not that that really makes a difference).

At first I had the "Choices made in episode 1 not transferring to episode 2" bug, so to fix this I removed/reinstalled the game. I decided to replay episode 1 for fun, and now when I continue the saved game and start episode 2 I'm stuck at a black screen with only my mouse cursor and the icon of the fire axe on the left side. ESC does nothing.

Repro steps:
- Played Ep 1 to its conclusion. Let credits roll and go back to main menu.
- Play using last saved game.
- Go to chapter 2 and play.
- Observe BSOD (black screen of death) and feel helpless.

This is a serious showstopper bug that needs to be rectified. The previous bug was just my choices from Ep 1 not carrying over properly to Ep 2, but now I can't even play Ep 2 with a saved game.

It's the exact same story on Mac/Steam. Blaaaaaaaaaaack. Lots of black.

    Same same... No fix?

Screw it. I tried playing episode 2 right after playing episode 1 but it just shows up as a black screen on my mac. Then I tried deleting ALL my save files and randomly play episode 2. The black screen still shows up. Short story here is I can't play episode 2 AT ALL. Any way around this?

My first save, there were no problems going from the first to the second episode. On my second, when trying to start episode 2, the black screen, music, the mouse, and the inventory on the left is all I get. Esc doesn't work; I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete it; bought through Steam on my PC.

Let's hope that at least when episode 3 comes out, we'll immediately see a solution to this.

I am experiencing this same thing. I was able to play episode 2 all of the way through and then I decided I wanted to continue off a different save and blam, now I get the black screen no matter what I do. I contacted support and those incompetent employees linked me to a "fix" posted by a user on the forums for an entirely different problem (decisions not transferring). I provided the support staff with a dxlog as they asked and told them that what they suggested didn't work and now I have yet to hear from them... It has been like 2 freaking weeks... I am so done with this fucking game and I am definitely demanding my money back.

duby you do realise 'save swapping/moving' isn't ttg's fault because they have supplied us with 3 slots with which we can play with?

therefore why should they bother to help you for something that is in fact YOUR FAULT.

it could also be said that by moving the save files you are modding the game outside of the terms and conditions that ttg are obligated to 'fix'

so did you ever think to move the files back to where you moved them from or make a back up file of the things you moved ?

have you tried to delete the game and saved data and re install and start fresh ?

Read the thread. People tried moving files to fix the problem that was there in the first place. I have this bug and have done nothing to the game. So quit being so stupid and go away.

my game worked first time and no problem...

so the fault is down to your setup/install/spec of pc..

Milo, stop being personally insulted at the fact that the game has some problems.

I had this problem too, this is what fixed it even though it's listed as a fix for a completely different problem. Duby, i'm gonna guess this is what support tried to get you to do.

I tend to agree with Milo on this. 95% of the game's "bugs/glitches" are user error. I've never had a problem with it on my PC,Have you tried updating your Video Card drivers?

    Attachment not found.

true story. Even my netbook, which is bellow the minimum specs for this game, works perfectly and I haven't encountered any bugs.
