Secret of Monkey Island Cover Art

edited February 2009 in General Chat
Hi,

do you know if there are better highres scans of Steve's Secret of Monkey Island Cover around than those available on http://mojoart.mixnmojo.com/original-art/cover-art.shtml? Also without the system-stick on the left?

Mine sadly isn't in the best shape anymore... :O/

Thanks,

taumel

Could someone upload these posters somewhere else than "One free download" and "Pay $$$" -rapidshare?

You can download more than one thing from rapidshare, you just have to wait a while in between.

The German Adventure-Treff.de was nice enough to host them temporarily... so, get them while they're warm and crunchy (and up!).

Nice, especially as i've stumbled over the Hal Barwood interview.

    url: http://www.adventure-treff.de/artikel/interviews.php?id=49&lang=eng

What i don't understand is why they are all after graphics, roleplaying like character evolution and things like that. To me the story, puzzles and characters are the most important thing. I don't care this much about graphics as long as i like the style. I still would love buying games like Fate of Atlantis if they would look like Fate of Atlantis as long as they have the same length and quality inside.

And when i read things like that they can't make the game as long as the games before because they need to invest ressources into the graphics then sorry for me they are investing their money into the wrong direction as the adventure games work more like books for me. As long as the paper isn't the cheapest one and the font is readable all is fine.

I don't have something against better graphics, improved animations and so on but when it comes at the costs of the core of an adventure game then i dont need it. There are quite some possibilities making games looking nice to a certain degree without time intensive heavy gfx stuff and you also can reach more people due to the lower system specs. Proper art pays out much better here in my opinion.

Anyway i've no idea if and how much i'm part of a minority with that but that's how i feel about it.

Ranting: Gimme back some real adventures and keep your half baked mainstream stuff! :O)

well look at what they did with myst.. the last one STUNK using the full motion movement first person style.. wasnt the movement that stunk it was the game and graphics.. zoom to the one right before it.. better story and graphics.
This topic has been in debate since the old gen/ new gen crossover. Devs seem to lose sight of character dev and plot and humor for something like a few extra flashes from a gun or advanced shaders. Personally Id rather play one great 2d with horrid graphics than any of the new oblivions and such.
New devs are quite sad really. Closing down all that would be great saying" its not flashy enough it will never sell"

Anyway I agree real games need a comeback WITH the added graphics.. I havent laughed in games in the last few years except for sam & max here. Thats sad.

PosterXXL.de ... 60x80cm is only €9,99 there right now... back when I printed them it was €16,99.

By the way, only the "Monkey Island"-ones are self-made. The Indy-poster is an original.
  • edited October 2007
hmm...i heard of that. they even do prints on canvas, right? tempting...
  • edited October 2007
Whoa, that looks amazing! If I had more room in my room, I'd have those printed and framed too...

Hmm if only there was a USA site.. but ive personally taken 4mb photos to even kinkos and other pressers and they wont touch copyrighted stuff without consent :( so looks like goooo germany! down with usa. Not like I want to sell em, I just want to frame and hang em. Ive been looking for years for the monkey island poster. And I have tons of personal fliers from bands Id love to print into posters that were never made into anything but JPEGs.. let me know if anyone knows a USA place that makes decent posters!

By the way, besides "Maniac Mansion" and "Zak McKracken", this is going to be one of the next:

    adve.jpg

But there's still a lot of work to do (removing dirt and creases, erasing the text, painting the rest of the Death Star, extending the starfield to match a poster aspect-ratio...).
  • edited February 2008
how do you get them poster sized without making it blurry.. im not up to par with this knowledge or I would have done this to my personal collection ages ago.. how can I make a poster from the custom arts I have from purcell etc..
  • edited February 2008
Me thinks Adobe illustrator or some other program that uses vectors in making images larger w/o making it look blurry or pixelly.
  • edited February 2008
idk I have alot of products and cant seem to increase it much over double size before it gets messy.. laser wont help with the instructions, apparently its a secret.. pfft
  • edited February 2008
You're really a little crybaby, aren't you? Furthermore, I've never kept that "secret", as you call it, to me, since you haven't asked me before. But you've asked me to print a few posters here in Germany, and send them over to the US (because you're such a "fellow fan"), which is what I'd call on the verge of ridiculous.
  • edited February 2008
I asked if you could use the same site to make me a few of those posters.. that was all. I cant read german. Thanks for the tips in the pm though thats what I was after hehe.
Crybaby, noper.. jealous, and unknowning.. heck yea...

And for the record if someone in EUR asked me to do what I asked of you, I would. Thats just how I am. Not saying your wrong to refuse my offer, thats ok and I understand it. Never hurts to ask, but its far from ridiculous. Now if I asked for it for free, that would be :P
Course Ill look into who can print stuff here but I dont want to step on toes I just want em for my collection like you XD

I have a few pics you might be interested in, and for the record your doing great work with the adventurer stuff.

You two (kalidre and laserschwert) probably need to take this conversation to a PM, or just end it. Thanks! :)
  • edited February 2008
jakers we already have been in pm :P whats odd is we arent really fighting hehe...
He actually pmed and helped me out quite a bit! As for the oddball insults on his part im not sure where that was aimed but he even stated hes not angry in the pms :P
But I think I neutralized it with the compliment.. I hope!

And as for that site..... not bad.. but 34$ for a 60cm 80cm poster hmmm I suppose if one wants it bad enough there ya go.. doesnt say much on copyrights and hell if im gunna be the one to get a letter sueng me in the mail. hmm.....129$ for a subway sided poster hahaha neat.

Anyway even steve purcell said that he lets some things sell and be made if they are decent enough (look on ebay at the max shirt.. its not official, also a poster of hit the road box was sold for a while from uk, steve mentioned to me that he liked it so he let it sell without making the seller take it off ebay :P )
  • edited February 2008
Well, actually it was all kinda tongue-in-cheek... damn those emotion-less forums!!!
  • edited February 2008
well according to Purcells email, he wants no fan make anythings.. sigh. So wee ill just sit and sulk while you germans get to making and keeping your wares :(
My kingdom for the nocturnals halloween print as a poster..and zak and mi1

I just dont understand, but Im not one to go against wishes of the godfather.

To think Purcell actually thought I didnt know what picture I used
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/Kaldire/NocturnalsBack.jpg
I called this Suda My Love when I created a shirt out of it and a poster...(steve told me not to make it for real so it is erased out of respect)

He sorta snapped in an email stating it wasnt Suda it was Halloween girl, I know this!!! but look suda right there bottom right.. sigh. Seems odd he pointed that out when It was known to me already. ( he did send me the comic.. so maybe he just forgot he did.)

Anyway.. if anyone does know a way to not peeve the godfather and still get one custom thing for my wall, let me know. Id love to buy them officially but most dont exist(except for the MI1 poster which is far rare)

Now im afraid to go to wondercon and meet with him. Will there be cameras like last con? Im already feeling queasy. Should I go? grr

Why did you PM me this? I don't even know what you're talking about.

Kalidre: Of course you should go if you want to. Don't read too much emotion into an email. Unless you're an emotionally unhinged insistent crazy person, you'll probably be able to have a more normal conversation with him face to face than via a potentially misunderstanding-laden email. I can't speak for Purcell or for anything else going on, but in my experience, talking to someone usually works better than writing them.

But, for what it's worth, you seem to be having a near-emotional breakdown in this thread. I'd recommend lightening up or at least taking it somewhere private. I don't mean anything personal by it, but this thread was fairly innocuous until the last 10 posts or so on this page, when it took a turn for the extremely awkward, vaguely personal, and wholly worthless to anyone other than you (and, on occasion, Laserschwert). If it continues, I'll probably be closing the thread, which would be unfortunate, because I'm enjoying seeing archive-quality versions of all this old art.
  • edited February 2008
For what it's worth, I'll try to bring this thread back on track with a little progress preview on the Zak-poster:

    zaktest2bn2.jpg

Still some stuff in the corners to be painted out (and the rest of the "And the Alien Mindbenders"-title), but other than that it's looking good to me.

Zip!... I do want Laserschwert to continue, it is great work.
sorry for the vast level of immaturity in handling this, you are of course right.
I think im more nervous than insane.. but I am a lil (whistles and wags finger in a circle by forehead) if ya get me.
but dont you have to be little different really like sam & max ? :P Anyway please forgive my sudden mishap again. Please continue this thread, I will leave it.

EDIT: I love this poster... its good work! benders is a little faded between the D and the E

fix that and those sides and perfectooooooo!
