Recording Playthroughs

edited July 2012 in The Walking Dead
I've seen a few playthrough's posted on Youtube and was wondering how or what sort of program most people use to record thier games.

is there some sort of free screen recording program that'll work?

I've never posted anything on Youtube and would like to try it.

You should try asking the people on youtube. I would help if I did any of that - but I'm lucky enough to have just enough working computer knowledge to not install unnecessary tool bars.:)

Try recording using FRAPS, livestream, or xsplit.

Quite often they list the tools/programs in the description. I'd have a mooch around for the most common.
One of my favourites lists this set up:

Gameplay footage captured via Hauppauge HD PVR.
    Edited via Corel Videostudio X2.

I understand 5 of the above words.

the hd pvr is an external device to record the video then commentary audio spliced over ?

fraps and the like are software but you need at least two hard drives and a big processor to be able to do it on one pc/laptop am i right ?

i'll probably give a vid a go and see what happens for the lulz

I use DXtory for my recordings. Its a program which is 1000x better than fraps in my opinion. I'm going to make a video about it soon because it's a real shame people don't know about it.

You can also use xsplit, fraps, camtasia, any other screen recording device.

And then there is video editing software.....but I won't bog you down in the whole process, you can check out my videos and if you have more questions message me on youtube.

but thats a seperate device which i probably won't use enough to validate the purchase. i mean software only other than what people have said and what 'settings' they use on them

i reckon i've got dxtory working real nice now, just a few tweaks with getting the audio levels right so the game sound doesn't go over my voice think i need to be louder lol
