Game forgets I saved Doug ?!?

So I decided to run through the game again, using a second game slot, this time saving Doug instead of Carly. However, when EP2 started, the game had forgotten that I saved Doug, and there was Carly.

Anyone else run into this? Anything to work around this (really stupid!) bug?
