Hey, quick question...

edited August 2012 in The Walking Dead
I replayed episode 2 in preparation for the new one today (that is, if we see it today -- crossing my fingers!), and upon selecting 'yes' for the random choices, Doug was suddenly alive.

When I first played episode 1, you couldn't save Doug, only Carley (if you tried to save him, he still died anyways).

Am I missing something, or did this get changed in a new patch? I saw a lot of differences in episode 2 as I played that make me think I should replay episode 1 again.

You should probably replay episode 1.
It's Shaun who dies whether you tried to help or not. With Doug and Carley, you choose which one to save while the other dies.

i take it you used an empty save slot to get the random choices option ?

which would mean your previous save is not used...so the game randomly chose to save doug, which you can do if you choose him and click on his hot spot. as opposed to clicking carleys hand bag...

I plan to, but I'm telling you, I tried to save Doug multiple times and each time, the zombies still tugged him through the window. My dad was the first to comment to me about this, actually -- 'Didn't you give up on trying to save him after it failed twice?'.

But yeah, I know Shaun was a lost cause. I guess my game was glitched! :D

You CAN save Doug. Just clicking on his won't do it , though... there's more to it. Just like you have to find Carley's bullets in her purse, there's another step to go though when you attempt to save Doug.

You can take her purse? How?

if you have hud set right, some hotspots won't show up till you're on them.

I meant like.. just steal her purse and not save her? You can do that?
  • edited August 2012
the purse is how you save carley...
  • edited August 2012
Erh. I thought you could steal the purse when she died.
  • edited August 2012
you don't get chance to 'steal it'

I know Lee is 'urban' and all, but come on, do you really need him to be a purse-snatcher? lol

I just played through this part of the game twice just to see how it goes saving both of them.

Carly: Move mouse over to Carly's side of the room -> Click her purse
Doug: Move mouse over to Doug's side of the room-> Click Doug

And that's it, game progresses. Don't know why you couldn't save doug as even if you have the ui turned to minimal, his is the easier one to figure out.

Clicking on Doug's "side" of the drug store is only part of the process. You have to actually select him after that to pull him off the window.

The same goes for Carley. You select her "side" of the drug store to send Lee over there, but then you need to click her purse to throw her the ammunition clip inside.

Jake? Why is Doug and Carley retarded? They could've easily avoided their demise.

This is actually why I ended up saving Doug the first time I played

I intended to save Carley, but I couldnt click on her "I missed seeing her purse" but I could click on Doug so he got saved.

But that's one of the greatest things about this game and having to decide and move quickly, you'll miss certain things in the heat of the moment.

If you were in their place I'm sure you would have lived. Sleep well knowing that! :)

i'll take this one jake ;)

doug was pinned by zombie arms through a boarded up window hence he was off balance.

carley was out of ammo and her ankle was grabbed if she tried to move any further the zombie would make her fall over and she'd be jumped on (like she is when you pick doug)

Thanks! But unfortunately, it didn't work when I did those things. My PS3 has a habit of being perpetually awful with this game (glitches, slow gameplay etc) but I didn't think it'd impact the game THAT badly.

I do have to say, though, that while I feel Doug is a bit more 'useful' to the game (especially when they found that camcorder... *shiver*), his dialogue/character in general is a bit stale compared to Carley's. I prefer her character, but we've yet to play episode three, so I'll just have to see, won't I? :D

Still hoping we get to find out a little more about what Lee did, though. I'm hoping he isn't really the bad man Larry and others have made him out to be.

In the meantime, I'll keep that second save on my PS3, so I can play through the new episode with Carley and Doug separately. It'll be interesting to see what our choices bring us this time!

That didn't exactly answer my question, but okay!

quote from a user: Doug could of crouched down to get the zombies off of him and carley could off kicked the zombie in the head and get her purse... Simple Logic
  • edited August 2012
yeah but using simple logic to someone who doesn't know about batteries...invalid.

using simple logic in any life threating situation for some is impossible. stress, fear and probably anal ventriloquism is gonna change your way of thinking ;)
  • edited August 2012
I will tell you firsthand that stress does mighty strange things to people. I was in a train that got derailed in the Tohoku (Japan) earthquake last spring. I'm red-cross trained and was okay, but people in the train car with me were in varying degrees of mentally there.
