The Walking Dead EP3 Cursor bug

edited April 2013 in Game Support
Hi, I am having a bug and is now desperate for help. As you can see in the picture attached, my cursor has failed to move any further than it is shown on the picture. Hence, I was unable to open the door to the right in order to stop the train ( This is the part where Duck has coughed blood ) because I simply cannot move the cursor to where the door is.

Please help!

I don't have a fix, but someone else had a similar issue in episode 1.

I've been having the same issue. As soon as the Katja scene begins (wiping Duck's mouth) my cursor is restricted, so I can't click on the door to get to Kenny.

I've tried rewinding multiple times, tried not touching the cursor during the pan-up sequence, tried moving the cursor during the pan-up sequence, using a keyboard+mouse only, using gamepad only, using gamepad+mouse, updating video drivers, downgrading video drivers, playing in a window, playing full screen, changing mouse sensitivity, changing resolution, rebooting -- all to no effect. The cursor just won't move into the rightmost 1/3 of the screen during that part of episode 3.

For the record, only that section is affected. Episodes 1 and 2 work fine, as do the earlier parts of episode 3 (e.g., if I rewind or load a different save). The mouse in the menus also work fine, even when the in-game portion gets screwed up.

I tried similar measures too, but no cigar... I find it funny that for some reasons I thought using a game pad would have solved my problem for sure XD .
Anyway, I have already send a letter to Telltale support's email. ( My thanks to DjNDB, his link led me to the support email address. Can't find the bloody thing anywhere else... ) I will put out their answer on this page if they have ways to remedy the problem :) .

    P.S. My computer is a 64bit windows 7 too

I'm having this same issue, but on the PS3.

I have encountered a problem with my mouse with Episode 3. It seems to be bound to a square area on my screen. I can not get to most options in the episode to progress. I uploaded a video to show off the problem.

I have restarted the game many times. Restarted my computer a couple times. Tried changing the resolutions of my game, but nothing seems to clear it up.

If some of you post your dxdiag info i can try to find possible culprits by comparing them:

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

I don't know if this means anything, but you have at least 3 displays with different resolutions. Maybe that confuses the game somehow. You can try if disabling all but one helps.

    Good idea! ....

But no... after unplugging 3 of my monitors it still didn't help...

Rebooting with the 3 monitors unplugged didn't help...

    Changing resolution didn't help...

    Updating drivers didn't help...

Too bad, but it was worth a try.
Does it make a difference which of the two graphics cards you use?
I would disable the other one if the device manager each time

Worth a try.... but alas, that didn't work either.

I deleted the local content through steam and re-installed it. Didn't fix anything.

    Here's my dxdiag. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gcga7boihkpwyaq/DxDiag.txt

I can't find anything suspicious that your systems have in common, but that doesn't mean much. The dxdiag info doesn't tell everything there is to know, so there might be something else.
It seems to be one of those mystery bugs that appear on some systems.

So... are they going to fix it or can we simply not finish the game?
  • edited September 2012
Ok, never mind. I rewound to the argument on the road and instead of
leaving evil lilly behind to die, I schlepped her along with me
(click to unhide) Then when I got to the coughin' up blood all night scene I had full cursor movement.

I wish I could rewind but I cant. In the save game it says Episode 1 and then I load that and it then i choose EP3 and it loads where I left in EP3.

I did a rewind and that seemed to fix the issue for me. I was able to progress further in the game and haven't experienced the problem so far.

what should I do when I cant even rewind?

Hey guys, I finally get a reply form telltale. But unfortunately, they just ask me to clarify the problem... I suppose we need to wait a bit longer.

I got another letter. I think we might need to wait for quite awhile :(

    Hi XXXXXX,

I apologize for the cursor problem you are experiencing. We are currently investigating a potential solution.

    Thank you,

Hello everyone! Guys, the only fix for this that i've found is to roolback your episode save to the last one. Mine was at the moment when you need to choose what to do with Lilly.

I've loaded this save, played till this sticky moment, and here you go.

You can reach the last switch and startup the train! :D

    Hope i've helped somebody.

    Cheers.
  • edited September 2012
Well finally what fixed it for me was to simply rewind to the RV seen i pre picked up the pencil before the evil one stole the RV and than i did the train stuff after and it seemed to work.

    Hello everyone

My game has been brought to a complete standstill in episode 4, FORTUNATELY I found a temporary fix. I ran the game in windowed mode and my mouse worked flawlessly. I don't know if this will work for everyone else, but it's worth a try until a patch is released.

For the record, I'm running the steam version on OSX. Hope this helps!

    Hi everyone,

I don't know if anyone is still interested in this but i had the same issue. My mouse couldn't get to the edges of the Screen with my (1440x900) Resolution.
So i tried every single one of the resolution in the settings menu, and eventually 1366x768 Worked.

    I hope this helps. :)
