Walkie Talkie

edited September 2012 in The Walking Dead
Did anyone that has read the comic immediately think that Clem and her walkie talkie was like Rick and his phone or Michonne and her talks with her boyfriend?

I sort of got that in the first episode, especially when they said it was broken. But then in the third epi when it appears miraculously restored (correct me if I'm mistaken but in the first epi didn't it appear broken?) and they added the stickers I just thought ok so this is her 'conscience' like Lori for Rick on the phone.

When I saw her in the hotel lot talking on it I assumed she was having an imaginary conversation just like Rick and Michonne until there was talking on it in the last scene.

Curious if anyone else picked up on that or reacted in that way to it. I saw the speculation about it but I found it an interesting parallel that wasn't brought up.

I thought she was pretending to talk to her parents like you said, but never made that connection, good find.

    And it was broken too.

I don't remember examining it at Lee. I think we just took Clem's word for it that it got broken in the pharmacy.

At the end of episode 2, batteries are found in the abandoned car. They are given to Lee for his recorder. And a few given to Clem for her Walkie.

I think it was out of batteries.
"Fucking batteries. How do they work?"

Yeah I remember it being suggested that it was out of batteries but I also remember it having a broken appearance when we saw it before epi 3 and after the pharmacy. It at least looked dull and dingy. Seemingly it was all pristine in epi 3.

Yup, that's exactly what I thought of!

That so totally creeped me out when that thing actually started talking! Omg, Clem, who have you been talking to?! They say that your parents are with them, but giiirl, your parents are sooo dead lol.

It is official Doug and Lee are the only people in the whole world who can use batteries

The walkie probably ran out of batteries and she started talking to the voice since episode 2
Both Carly and Clem don't know who batteries work.
    Doug for the win

At the beginning of episode two if you talk to Clem while she's coloring, you get a close up view if you ask her about it and she says it's still broken. It doesn't "look" broken, it just doesn't work. I don't thing she was talking to the WTNut by then, she's NOT very good at lying ("I dunno"). I think she was still pretending to talk to her parents at that point.

However, I can't help but wonder if maybe WTNut was picking up her conversations prior to ever speaking to her. I suspect Clem isn't that naive, she knows this guy is lying but some part of her wants to hope. She knows it's wrong and that's why she hasn't told Lee.
