The Walking Dead comic

edited September 2012 in The Walking Dead
I've heard good things about it. Is this the "official" canon, or is it something else?

Also, I wanna buy all of 'em, what sites do you suggest? Amazon, eBay, etc?

Yes, the comics are the official canon and they are dark beyond words. You can find issues anywhere, I'd startwith google.

The comics are great, but agreed. They go extremely dark.

    The games don't even match.

The comics in the single issues are VERY expensive---I sold my #1-#48 earlier this year just before the crazy bump up. If you are buying the issues from a collectable standpoint, now is NOT the time---you are buying near the top.

From the perspective of reading and enjoying the series--buy the trade paper backs---they collect six issues in one book and costs about $8 each. Go to an online comic retailer like mailordercomics.com and get them at a discount. You can also get the more expensive hard cover omnibuses that collect more issues.

    Okay thanks.

I'm going to look all over the Internet for some copies of the volumes or issues. I've found many sites already who sell them at a discounted price or full price. I've heard that the comics are way better than the TV series also.

    In terms of canon:
    Comics>VG> TV series

What's Lilly like in the comics? Because they are supposed to be canonically the same person. Our Lilly is the actual one who ends up in the comic.

plus she is in a novel not just the comics.

Meh...I don't like the comics, but I just buy them for display. As of issue 100, I stopped reading the comics, and devoted my TWD time to the show and game. I recommend that you buy the compendiums, even though you have to wait three years for one to come out...

Amazon has the larger collections for around $25 each. They are around 10 - 12 issues each. I am currently collecting them. They are incredible. I've read up to issue #100 - "dark" doesn't begin to describe the shit Kirkman does to the characters in this series.

Pirate Bay is illegal. Not that I'm a saint, but when something is this good and you get this much enjoyment out of it, pay the creator. They deserve it.

Lilly has a small, but pivotal, role in the comics. It's entirely possible to miss her if you're not watching for her. Actually, most of her personality comes from the game.

She went through the book and then to the comic book. The long to redemption is not that short

I've started reading the comics recently and they've been superb.
And everyone is right. Things get real dark, real fast.

Also, I never really thought I'd warm to the black and white art style but it just fits together flawlessly. I'm really enjoying them!

If you have a Nook Color or Nook tablet you can get them as an app that works great with your device. I think there's 14 apps & each one has several comics in one app.

Get them from the library, because it makes no sense to pay all that money if your only going to read them once.

But make sure you know what you're getting into before you jump in. The characters in the Walking Dead comic are stupider and far more annoying then the characters in the Walking Dead game IMHO. If you ever played a RE game, have common sense, and can't stand the absence of basic common sense- this might not be for you. In my opinion Kirkman believes everyone is stupid and idiotic in a ZA and that humans can barely survive, let alone function in one without being some helpless boob. If this doesn't matter to you have fun, otherwise don't bother.

Finally, if you like manga and or want a good/fresh zombie story I suggest you check this series:

    APOCALYPSE NO TORIDE

Buy the compendiums! My local bookstore has Part 1, and I read somewhere that Part 2 is coming out in October.

    EDIT:
Also, just wanted to add on that I believe the comics are FANTASTIC. I started off watching the show, didn't like it, and then stumbled across the comics online... Wonderfully dark. I think it's realistic (save for a couple of things that happens to Rick- but of course the main character has to survive), and it shows that ultimately humans are by far more dangerous than zombies.

Just remember (im sure somebody has said this already) the comics are way more gruesome and just darker then the game or tv show

Maybe because in The Walking Dead universe no one knows what a Zombie is as films like Dawn of The Dead where never made. If a world were no Zombie Lore exists then yer they are not going to know what to do. It is obvious. Kirkman even stated this himself that no Zombie movies were ever made in TWD Universe so no one knew what they where, how they came to be or how to kill them until they discovered it for themselves.

Also Apocalypse No Toride, Zombies talk? WTH......put me right off.

Image has a online store where you can buy each issue digitally, if that tickles your fancy.

I really doubt it because Kirkman stated that for 300 issues aprox it would chronicle Rick's life in The Walking Dead. Plus that site said Rick was no longer in charge it did not say that Rick gets killed.

The cover is probably a metaphor. It might assert that Rick has lost leadership and the guy with the bat is "controlling" him.

Yep in no way does the site say that Rick dies at all

I like both the tv series and this game more than i like the comic.Calling the comic dark is indeed a huge understatement, worse he seems to go in that direction simply for shock value. Its actually a bit disturbing.....

You can get almost the entire series,in Compendium form, with Compendium 2 due out this oct.Its very inexpensive compared to the original comics this way.You can get Compendium 1 new for about $30 or less if you put effort into it.

The Wiki does say that is the tagline for the issue, though... I find it hard to believe Rick dies, but I'm a little worried. :x
