While their thoughts are all interesting, I wouldn't personally consider anybody at this panel apart from Vanaman to have anything legitimate to say about storytelling. The games brought to the table by the other panelists there are good games, but saying that DayZ or Minecraft are instances of "storytelling" is laughable.

yeah i think this whole fascination with story generators is overrated, don't get me wrong i like all kinds of games, but calling minecraft, dwarf fortress and day z story generators is giving them to much credit, people have imaginations but that isn't a selling point of a game, i have amazing dreams and i get them for free, i want things i cant imagine in games, if most of the game is in my imagination i may as well not play it and just imagine it.

    Exactly.

Those games aren't generating stories in the narrative sense. They don't create epic, grandeur tales. They create events that we may tell each other or film and chuckle about. A story is something written down, something that has complex and varying characters who have thoughts and opinions and make decisions. DayZ and MineCraft just don't do that, even if they are fantastic games in their own right.
