Would the Game be More Immersive...

edited September 2012 in The Walking Dead
If you were only allowed to play through once? I kinda think that playing through the various choices ruins the intended feeling of the game. It pulls back the curtain on the design process, and dilutes the tense environment.

It might be better if we (the players) were forced to stick on the path that our original choices take us down. We should only be able to start a section over if we die. At the end of the season, then the saves would unlock and we can try the story in different ways.

Being forced to deal with our choices without a reset option mirrors real life, and would add weight to the choices we make.

That would make it way more immersive but not if they are going to pull crap like allowing you to choose an action and then all of a sudden 'your conscience' comes out of nowhere and is now traumatized because you chose the best course of action in your mind (aka the St Johns)

But, isn't that a great example of real life? Think of all the times that you've done something that later you wish you hadn't. Yet, you can't go back. It's frustrating, and depressing. It's perfect for TWD.

I call her 'your conscience' because if that was my son/daughter I'd have gone through with the death of all three of them and then explain why it had to be this way. Instead your stuck with some kid who you're somehow now obliged to defend as your own without having the ability to instill your beliefs onto as a parent's right would be. It's a nice twist I suppose but it makes you look like a monster to her (especially with her limited time with you) instead of someone who just saved all their lives.

Nope, this would have to be something the player imposes upon themselves. You yourself want the idea to copout and get a do over if Lee dies. Why? Isn't death being the end more immersive?

Personally I'd just find such a mechanic to be extremely irritating. If you want that sort of game then just don't reset on your decisions, it's not that hard to do.

I don't think it should be a rule. I strongly agree that playing the whole season in 1 go without rewinds or do overs would be the best way to play though. I would want to play multiple times still, but those decisions that you regret fit in perfectly.

I don't play games to play "real life 2.0"

They do it with Epic Mickey. The game autosaves at every decision. It's a little messed up. Rather than playing through twice to see different options, you end up needing four separate continuous playthroughs. I don't like being forced into that.

Choices don't save from episode to episode, so your proposal makes no sense.
