I think I broke the game by being too neutral

edited September 2012 in The Walking Dead
So, just for giggles, I've been doing a run where I make as little decisions as possible. I always respond with "..." whenever possible, and when I have to do something like decide which character to save, I pick neither (unless that ends up killing me, like with Doug/Carley).

This has ended up with some oddities, however.

For example, I saved neither Duck nor Shawn. Kenny rushes in and saves Duck, and Shawn begs me to help him. I don't, for the sake of curiosity, and Hershel blames me and I get the dirty look from Kenny, and so on. After that, though, it's like I saved Duck. Kenny never brings it up that I left him (though he is angry at me for not calling Larry out at the pharmacy), and the statistics at the end said I saved Duck.

It really got weird, however, when it came time to decide Larry's fate. If you don't make a decisions before the time runs out, Kenny pushes you down and smashes Larry's head in. The rest of the episode proceeds as if I had tried to help Lilly revive him - Kenny acts like a dick, Lilly saves me a few times, etc. I assumed at this point that I had, for all intents and purposes, tried to save Larry.

And then the statistics come up: "You and 31% of players helped kill Larry!"

I got a chuckle out of this, but assumed that it was an error...Except that now it seems like that's what happened. In the "Previously on..." cutscene, it showed Lee pulling Lilly back as Kenny smashed Larry's head in. Kenny treats me nicely, and I even got the dialogue option of "We killed her dad."

I don't think Telltale anticipated very many people being this indecisive.

I think it turns some things black and white because of the linear necessity. If you don't actively stand against Larry, Kenny will say that you were against him. If you don't actively resuscitate Larry, Lily will think you were just as bad as Kenny.

I say this all the time, a story based game is an inescapable line where the main goal is to keep you on track. It's not surprising that you were pushed into a decision and the story moved forward.

Your choices doesn´t matter in this game. You will follow the same story... See this like if it was a comic / tv serial, because you can´t really choose.

I see what you're saying, but what I mean is the game basically changed its mind. After I failed to act, Kenny insulted me and acted like a general dick, and Lilly said "Hey, we're good. Okay?" The game acted completely as it does when you try and save Larry.

Once the end of the episode came, however, the game suddenly shifted to the other foot; The statistics said I killed Larry, the "previously on..." for Episode 3 showed me pulling Lilly away, and the dialogue options the game gave me were acting as if I had killed him.

If the game had simply gone for one or the other, that would make sense, but Episode 2 basically acted like I had helped him while Episode 3 acted like I killed him.

Okay, I did that scene but didn't get that far. I just knew Kenny shoved you aside. That is weird.

I have no strong feelings on this either way.

I had the same problem as TC, Kenny shoved me, acted like a dick to me, didn't save me, and Lilly shot Andy for me. Stats at the end said I didn't kill Larry and I was okay with this, and the preview Kenny was still a dick to me, but when I played Episode 3 it was reversed like it did for you, totally broke the mood for me to continue that Silent Lee play-through.

I tried running a silent play, but Lee comes off as such a gomer, I couldn't do it.

It worked fine for me in my indecisive, silent Lee save and the stats showed that I didn't' help kill Larry(Ps3). The previously on the walking dead in episode 3 showed Kenny having to save Duck on his own and blaming Lee for leaving Duck in danger twice but it did show a sudden glimpse of Lee giving Larry CPR instead of being pushed down by Kenny.

The only inconsistency I noticed with not saving either Duck or Shawn is that Katjaa(in the barn) thanked Lee for saving Duck.
Kenny being pissed at Lee for not helping him kill Larry and Lilly coming to Lee's rescue, even if he didn't try to help Larry, didn't come across as strange to me. I put it down to Lilly seeing Kenny shoving you to the ground before you had a chance to do something thus her hatred is focused solely on Kenny and therefore she doesn't hold a grudge towards Lee.

I had saved Doug so I wonder what happens if you can confess Lee's murder to Lilly and tell Katjaa what happened in the meat locker?
I know Lilly says something like "my dad treated you like shit and you still tried to help him", it would be strange if she still said this if you were on your backside while Kenny smashed her dad's skull.

Pardon my ignorance Cyreen but what the hell's a gomer?
