Choose Your Own Ending...?

edited October 2012 in The Walking Dead
I am fully aware of the programming complications of doing branching narratives and I am sure this will not be a truly deviating narrative at the end. Still, how much do you think the end will vary based on our choices? Will it just be a rigid 'only one ending' type of conclusion or do you think there is room for variation?

I personally would like for a slight chance for different endings based on your choices. It doesn't have to be something that carries all through Episode 5, but maybe the last several minutes and/or epilogue radically alter based on who is alive and how Lee has affected the story.

Any thoughts on how much variation will be in the ending?

    a) lee and clem are friends

    b) lee and clem are enemies

a2) lee has regrets on certain deaths by his hand

b2) lee doesn't give a rats ass about anyone

No variation on the ending, the variation comes on everything leading to the ending. Just like the ending of the first three episodes.

It's going to be a linear ending. I wonder how this is going to all play out.

I don't really care, so long as it's a good story. I prefer to be surprised.

I couldn't choose the end of Monkey Island or Sam and Max season 3. Both endings blew me away. I'm sure I'll be happy with what they have planned.

Nope, it will be a linear ending, you & Clementine going in the boat then driving out in the river/lake/whatever.

Then: Duuun, dun dun dun, duuun. The survivors have escaped!

Lee is forced to choose to either

A.Release a special Virus that will make all the Walkers Obediant and Docile Allowing Lee to CONTROL them but by doing this Lee will also become a walker.

    B. Release a special Virus that will DESTROY all the Walkers but Clementine will die as well.

    C. Lee Reaches SYNTHESIS with a Virus that will make all humans Immune to the Virus. But he dies in the process.

    D. Lee REBEL's against the Virus Generator and goes on his own way and the Virus wipes out the Earth

No matter what you choose the rest of the gang ends up stranded on a deserted island

I really wouldn't mind there to presumably bee a dark ending where Clem dies and the walkers close in and you hear a gun shot (fade to black) where lee presumably kills himself.

I thought there was some previous speculation or inference that our choices that we have made throughout the game would influence the end. Am I mistaken?

Personally, I am just curious about the ending. I suspect that it will be linear though. I have no real preference as long as it is a clincher.

I'm gonna have to replay The Devil's Playhouse sometime soon, just... not yet. Don't wanna wreck the zombie vibe. Now that I think of it, Monkey Island has zombies... no, no, no, not dark enough.

those choices sound basically identical in terms of game play and extremely disappointing to witness ;)

Don't forget, Lee first has to fight his way past Walker Shields.

But that deserves the Funniest Post of the Year award.

How about if you side with one side in the final episode you become governor of the city until Lee disappears. but if you choose the other side Lee and the group dissappears. Regardless of choice in the end the Walkers throw off the shackles destroy their towers and phylacteries and go rogue and the Humans decide to hunt them down leading to an epic war between Walkers and Humans.

    is that more original?

Wow, Mass Effect's endings are truly renowned to be bad huh?

It has to be linear. Lee dies and the end and Clementine is left with a new group of people.

The next season will be us playing as Clementine. And boy has she grown up!

Oh you have no idea, especially when it is long time Bioware fans like me who are saying it vehemently too! Never seen so many people turn on their beloved company.

Back on subject though, I just want an actual conclusion. None of the ambiguous artsy fartsy BS that only a few people can actually pull off well. It does not have to spell out everything, but I want to feel like there is closure. I want an end to this story (or part of the story if it continues to Season 2) that feels like everything was leading to a point (or a selection of points). There is nothing wrong with wrapping up a story. You do not need a cliffhanger to make it feel completely and at the same time leave room for more. The best sequels worked like that with their predecessors (Aliens, Terminator 2).

Just give us an actual ending please. It can be dark or optimistic or whatever. Just have a good conclusion that makes the investment payoff.

That is a game only Bioware fans truly understand how awful it is. I never got into Dragon Age, but trying DA2 showed me why it is the most hated game in Bioware's current library. ME3's hate is almost squarely focused on the ending and story consistency issues, but at least it had great controls, stellar production values and a lot of great story moments for the first 90% of the game to be defended.

Don't think that'll happen. TTG's storyline would then go way past Kirkman's (the comic timeline is still somewhere between 2003 and 2004), and they want to stay canon to the comic.
