So Chuck.......

Is there ever an option for Lee to tell the group that Chuck is dead or does nobody care? Cuz I kinda did. I was pretty upset at the beginning when we couldnt go back for him but shit, its like nobody cares about the loveable hobo. You think anyone else is gonna play that banjo? I dont think so.

Yeah, after Lee finds him in the sewers nobody ever mentions him again. He had a great deal of potential, I think.

I'm perfectly fine with how he died, but it did seem very strange that nobody even seemed to remember that we lost the guy.

    maybe in episode 5?
its funny, because even Vernon probably sees his body (since its right outside the entrance to the morgue) and doesnt mention it
and also, no1 seems to notice when you go back there with the group (if theyre with you)

Not only Chuck's advices were wise and useful, but he could have use the whisky Kenny was drinking.

Chuck was obviously a smart guy, decent at fighting, with strong survival skills, and not selfish. Probably the best guy to have in team after Lee, even overpowering the now mentally-unstable Kenny.

A shame he died. Poor hobo.

His death was such a cop-out, reinforced by the fact that you only see him once, and no one else ever mentions him again.

I totally called it. Chuck was the magical hobo. He comes in out of nowhere, gives some helpful advice and then is gone. I was not surprised he went out like this, but it was a bit upsetting he did not achieve more than just being the mystical character.

I thought it was lazy writing. You introduce a new guy with potential, he is left for dead and no one cares, he dies and no one even wants to know.

It's kinda ironic that he was better off alone. Made me think that leaving Clementine with Vernon might not have been such a bad idea. Lee and the group are a recipe for disaster.

Lee was totally right, good old Chuck deserved a lot better than a lonely death in a damn sewer and having to decide to kill himself.
I'm glad that my initial gut instinct that he was a brave old man with a heart of gold turned out to be true :) He may of been a loner and had survived for yeas on his own but he gave his life for others in the end but why wasn't there a choice to save him at the beginning? I would of gladly taken him with me instead of any of the others at the end. It would of been interesting to know more about him, RIP Charles.

His death fitted his character but I was disappointed I couldn't even mention his ultimate fate to the others(Did they even care?!). I also wondered why no one also mentioned Carley or Doug :(

Sometimes you just have to intro a character to say a few pieces of dialogue fill a plot hole and then before you know it they are dead.

But the better question is how he got down in the sewers when it took Lee using Molly's weapon to open the man hole.

Oh well...must be his magic hobo powers.

He could have pried open the manhole cover using his shovel.

Sadly I don't think they"ll be any Chuck references in episode 5. If there were no references in episode 4 for Lilly and Carley or Doug I highly doubt someone you meet at the end of the episode then lose at the beginning of the episode is getting any kind of reference.

Poor Chuck. He really did deserve better.

Chuck and the rest of the group had known each other for around 5 hours or so. I doubt that was enough time to bond with someone enough to make you really care if they made it or not. Especially when your life's on the line.

It was actually closer to around 14 hours, given a possible dialogue option between Kenny and Christa.

Chuck barely got referenced in Episode 4.

Chuck almost immediately grew on me in episode three. He gave some good advice, he added a bit of humour to it. For as long as he lasted in episode 4 he was an absolute legend
with his shovel. He really did deserve a lot better.

I adored Chuck for his line in Episode 3 if you stay silent when Christa and Omid are introducing themselves to the group. Just before the timer ends he just chimes in "Y'all want some candy?". What a hero.

I made a pretty unnatural noise when I realised that was his corpse in the sewers. A sad moment for all.

    RIP You lovable homeless scamp.:(

I just hate no one even gave a shit about him, except for Christa a bit when she said "where's Chuck?"

I honestly liked him, and hated the way he went out.

We barely knew you Chuck, but already you have a loyal following of fans.

I gotta admit, I felt bad for Chuck.

I actually didnt like Chuck until episode four, when we had to leave him to fend off a pack of zombies. I didn't like that we didn't get given the option to go back for him and maybe sacrifice someone like Kenny or Ben in the process :P
  • edited October 2012
Sacrifice Ben or Ken?? I would have respected the comment to sacrifice yourself....but giving another persons life (albeit a make believe character) for personal gain is still murder.

I liked Chuck, even when I got mad at him for what he said to Clem.....he was honest although he was a bit too forward with her by saying what he did.

Chuck's sacrifice to me was faith that humanity still exists in the ZA world. The next fifth of whiskey I come across I'll pour on the ground in remembrence of 'ole Chuck!

I also liked chuck, only problem i had with the whole situation is that you are forced to fail when you shoot the zombies near clem so his thing can trigger and go its course. I tried the scene like 20 times before i realised that you have to fail! Game mechanic wise this was a total letdown same as the scene in EP2 where lee gets pushed near the electric fence. When you dont have a clue and have to fail its just bad gamedesign in my book.
They better had that situation out of the players control.

    Maybe Vernon shot him...
    He almost shot us

Chuck looked to old to be from Crawford which is why Vern nearly shot us.

If Chuck had died while fighting the zombies with his shovel, it might not have pissed me off as much. What I hated was that his death happened offscreen and noone gave a shit about it afterwards.
  • edited October 2012
I have a feeling Chuck knew about the morgue, either right before his death or was originally being helped by Vernon in the first place but was overwhelmed by walkers and left him outside the shelter.

It would justify the fact about him being in the sewer!

No one even gave a shit he was missing :(

Well, they only knew him for a few hours.

    He deserved a better fate.

It tells you something when a man has been treated like shit by people all his life [being homeless], but is still willing to sacrifice his life for them.

    Chuck was my man.
  • edited October 2012
I'd raise a glass to that.

Good point. I never realized that noone mentioned Chuck. It could be because the group was busy with many other things but still, it's very weird that he never gets mentioned the entire episode.

When Lee mentions to Kenny and Christa about looking for Chuck their indifference did annoy me.Later when you're looking for a boat with Kenny, and Lee mentions keeping an eye out for Chuck, Kenny didn't seem to give a shit: what Chuck, o yeah, now where are those boats :(

I was rather surprised that you weren't able to pin the blame of Chuck's death onto anyone after you got back to the house. (Molly for ringing the bell inadvertently leading the herd to you or Ben for leaving clementine).
  • edited October 2012
Your homeless in heaven now my freind...
  • edited October 2012
I also wish more would have been said about Chuck. Like when you were in the streets with Kenny an option came up that said "keep an eye out for Chuck" which I wanted to say but instead I chose "you wanna talk?" because Kenny looked like he was about to commit suicide. I would have instead said both but obviously we didn't get that choice.

But I think the reason Chuck was overlooked was because Kenny just lost his family so his mind isn't right, if he is thinking about people it's Duck and Katjaa. Crista is worried about Omid so they aren't really thinking about him either, plus we didn't really see them interact. Not to mention those two don't typically join groups. Not to be mean to Ben but he left Clementine alone so he seems kind of self preserved. And he admitted his guilt so Chuck's not on his mind either. It'd be the guilt of Kenny's family and then possibly Clem before the new guy. So that leaves Clem and Lee like everyone else just suffered some serious shit before coming to Savannah. So unfortunately even though Chuck saved Clem's life because he was only with the group for a short time he was overlooked.

His death was just so damn quick, it was too lazy. He had so much potential and I don't think anyone can replace him. The new writer on Episode 4 was kinda lazy :/
  • edited October 2012
As it should be. He was left alone surrounded by walkers. I'm surprised he was able to at least get into the sewers.

It's actually far braver writing to kill of potentially useful characters and quickly as well. It fits the whole Walking Dead universe better too.
  • edited October 2012
Actually, his duration doesn't surprise me.

He had a shovel, a gun, and had been living solo for a long time.... despite his age he was probably in very good shape.
