Why is there no sex?

edited October 2012 in The Walking Dead
This is obviously an adult game. Lots of blood, death, gore, people getting their bowel ripped out. But no romance? Not even insinuated. How come? I hope we get to see some relationships or romances in the next series. I mean sure it's a zombie Apocalypse but they are still human and I doubt the scenario would suddenly turn all survivors into celibats.

I guess it's not they way TT want the game to go. Seeing characters naked or in a postion like that impacts on the way you look at them.

I don't really get why you want sex shown?

There is implied sex with Anna and probably Christa being pregnant. There must have been something going on then...

If you mean you would've want Lee to have sex, well... bad luck. ;)

Sex is approved for season 2 LOL

Double standard. It´s perfectly fine to go postal with a chainsaw on someone, yet depicting sex in any form will start an upoar. The hilarious Hot Coffee mod of GTA, the uproar about the collectible cards of The Witcher, or the hot blue alien sex debate of Mass Effect come to mind.

In my playthrough, there was a relationship hinted with Carley -- which got crushed by Lilly of course; and even discussed with Katja.

Anyway, I would be in favor for romance to be added, as long as it is optional for the player, like Mass Effect, Dragon Age or The Witcher did it. It surley could add another layer of character dynamics to the game.

There WAS a romance implied, which was with Carley. Lee and Carley's mannerisms towards each other + talking to Katjaa when you reach the train show it. Even if you were mean to Carley, it's meant to go in that direction. But as we all know, that romance was cut short. But it was there and was starting to form. So unless you saved Doug on your play through, not sure how you're saying that there's no romance! I don't see what sex really adds, myself.

Ep 4 has implied sex and I also agree with people who believe Christa is pregnant. So there you go!

Not really what I ment. Sure they showed carley liked Lee and how Lee finds out about it, but 5 minutes later she is dead. The "romance" didn't even start nor develop. So that's not what I ment at all.

Not every game has to have sex or heavy romance, you know.

my guess is due to the demographic of the players. Many customers are from the US. For americans gore, violence, organs being ripped seems to be perfectly fine. But once it goes to sex OH NO can't have that. They are a weird and fridged country. Thats why theres no sex. I too would like it. It makes perfect sense that sex is also a portion of the peoples lifes. and it would make it more interesting and realistic if it was optional. if the most people who played was europeans this would be in the game 100%. but because we are talking about americans here... it is highly unlikely.

Well, it's implied Dr. Logan and Molly were having sex. And the whole reason Lee committed murder in the first place is because his wife was having an affair.

But really, if you want to know why there's no sex in this game, just think about it. If there was a zombie outbreak, getting laid would be pretty low on your priority list. If there was a sex scene in this game, it'd just reek of being overly gratuitous.

They also imply jolene was raped.

But yeah, compared to the gore they are a little timid about even implying it (dont necessarily need to have a explicit scene but some relationship or mentioning/jealousy beween survivors would be good).

First weeks its survival mode in high stress, after that i really expect it to play a role as a way to feel comfort/protected/to forget the za/stress release mixed with feelings after people end up saving eachothers life.

Well in the earl stages you would still get the "theres no order i can go crazy" rapists around.

Later you would get more group Dynamics. Would have been cool if Lilly was implied to be jelous of Carley flirting with Lee

I remember that there indeed was a line from Lilly when you sided with Carley in the van. She accused my Lee of being biased and asked if there was something going on between them; yet I don't remember the exact words.

They went in the right direction, though it was a pity that the fallout played mostly the same nevertheless. It would have been funny in a certain cruel way if being close to Carley would have get her killed, while keeping her distant would have ensured her survival.

Of course not every game has to have sex. It's more about story I think though. Also... I TOTALLY get the implication of games/movies/tv where it's ok to slit someones throat but it's not ok to say f*c* or see b00bs. Completely ridiculous.

If it fits the story... bring it on. Sex for sex sake though.... leave that out. For those of you offended by sex and not walking dead ripping flesh and eating it.... you've got some serious issues.

    Agreed.
If you're that worked up about the lack of sex in this game, go watch porn. Getting it on isn't exactly a priority in a zombie apocalypse. Think about it- would you want to risk the chance of having to deal with a pregnant woman/being pregnant while fighting for your life? What on earth would you do with a newborn baby? It's a recipe for disaster.

If it´s not needed for the story it´s not in. They implied something in Episode 3, but things changed before more could happen.

Is it possible that people are reluctant to have sex due to the risk of pregnancy, having your clothes off and noise? (I doubt protection or termination is easily available during such a time.) As a female I feel like I would withhold sex and avoid romantic links. :P

That's not the point. I don't want sex to get off on it. Jees you guys are close-minded. I want it to enhance relationships.. to feel more real.

Take for example The Witcher 2 (one of the greatest RPGs of all time imo). The scene with triss at the pool. It just added an important aspect to their relationship and the story overall. I asked why there wasn't anything like that in TWD.

I agree. This double standard seems to be pretty standard in the US. It's a shame really. Is telltale even an american company? or where are they from?

I personally think stuff like this should be rare but optional. it'd make for a more exciting story and more attachments towards different characters.

Why would anyone think that kids aren't attracted to Blood & Gore games? (not all ofcourse)
so if there are sex scenes, when they come for killing, they get a load of something else...

    "mummy, what r they doing?"
"Is that another way of killing zombies?"
    :o

You got about three years before all condoms are void. Also don´t underestimate the fact that lust is in your nature, a life threatening situation and a strong male being present in it will get your juices flowing. Besides there are many sexual relationships in the comic.

Also i think Christa carries a baby.

The game follows Lee and he hasn't had much chance for any action being that there's only really one logical character for him to hook up with (and even then not everyone chose to save her in the first place). Of course there is the time between episodes 1 & 2 in which anything could have happened but I personally don't think anything did. That's not to say that other characters haven't been getting it on, like Kenny & Katjaa, being a couple and all.

If we went down this path, I don't think mashing the 'Q' button would only be used to kill and escape from zombies.

You dont really need a sex scene but TT can imply such things through dialog with Carly/Girl Survivor and i think a romance would be good so IF or WHEN she is killed the player can feel the loss of said partner. Her death should be something the player can prevent and not something scripted, so if she does die its the players fault not the devs....

Yes, deeper, rapping zombies, slapping girls like in SM, blood sex & violence on the hard way.

because black males will always be a-sexual in movies, tv and video games.

That's different, most of those scenes in David Cage's games are somewhat gratuitous, as evidenced when he added a bonus scene in Indigo Prophecy of himself grind-dancing against the female lead in her underwear.
