What the hell, Kenny? (Up to the end of Ep 4Spoilers)

edited October 2012 in The Walking Dead
So i just finished Episode 4.
For the whole game i always played as the guy, who does what's best for the team. And when it comes to deciding who comes with me, Kenny says i was so selfish all the time and never helped him.
What the fuck?!
I saved Duck first. I gave Duck and your family food. I shot Duck for you. I didn't fight you, but calmed you down. I made you shoot the boy, and the game tells me i helped him.
And then he says i was soooo selfish.
I just don't know what i did wrong.
I mean i saved ben, but i don't think thats such a horrible thing to do.
Does anyone know what you have to do to get everyone to come with you?
(Everyone else came with me, btw.)

Could it be that there's a save bug or something. I think the "previously on the Walking Dead" Videos always showed the right thinks, but i Know i nearly always sided with Kenny. The only thing i did was that i did not take the food, but otherwise i always sided with him. I even killed Larry with him. It's just really really weird that he hates me now.

To be fair though giving his family ration food and calming him down in the train isn't as big as a factor as the likes of you supporting him when he killed Larry, siding with him instead of the rest of the group when talking about leaving/getting on a boat etc.

Also to those that call him an asshole: Cut him some slack. He had to cope with the fact that his son was going to die. He had to endure seeing his wife put a gun to her head and pull the trigger. All he had left was the hope that there was a boat in Savannah in which he could get away from everything. There was no boat. He has nothing. Lee has Clem. Christa has Omid. You expect him to be rational? Think about if you were him. Then we will see if you still think he is an asshole.

He is coming with me to find Clem and I hope to God he can be the guy to see Lee through to the end.

Well put. In my game Kenny is Lee's staunchest ally and supporter. Saved his ass many times. Sometimes he can be a dick, but given the situation he's been through the day prior. My Lee doesn't blame him. He's just tried to be understanding.

In the end, Kenny came with Lee no problem. Didn't even have to ask really.
Kenny's awesome. Fuck yeah Team Kenny!

I didn't help Kenny kill Larry, and I didn't take the food. That's probably what did it. Oh, and I saved Ben, but I don't think that has much to do with it.

I saved Ben and Kenny still came with me. But then again I also did help him kill Larry.

Kenny's idea of being helpful is helping him and no one else
i believe a big factor to him helping you is killing Ben (his idea of not being selfish is letting a teenager fall to his death)

    Four magic words

    "Clementine is my family now"

and if he has problems with Ben, tell him to deal with it.

I more then once wanted to shoot that big mouthed, unreliable and seditious wimp. He acted more then once like a firestarter and not once had the decency to do what was expected from a leader.

I'm just glad he's gone...and shave that damn thing out of your face, you're looking ridiculous.

Kenny considers the teenager as responsible for the death of his whole beloved family. Sure he is not really smart, but his mind is too shaken to have ideas sorted clear.

You can't blame him, not for being what he is now so few times after such events.

And if you got him kill Duck, then Fizel in the attic.... Then man, you made him a serial kids killer. No way you can blame him to continue with Ben :D

I hated him ever since the end of ep. 2. I cannot even stand him anymore.

    Flippin' autocorrect.

If he tags along on my newest playthrough i try to kill him the very moment i can be sure clem has not to whitness me when i smash his body to bits with a heavy blunt object!

    A line in Episode 4 that epitomises Kenny, for me, was when you tell him Molly saved his life and he simply replies;

"Pfft, yeah. But what has she done for me lately?"

    Ass. Hole.

If you told Kenny that Clementine was like family to him, then he changes his mind and joins you in the search.

Not to change the topic, but most Kenny-fans hate on Lilly, because "she's a bitch", and always seem to forget that Lilly went thru a similar story as Kenny's. She also lost all her family, all her hope, and everyone hated her. Think about it if you were her. Then we will see if you still think she is a bitch :D

Back to the topic, I think it was most likely a save-error, Kenny is mood swingy, but I don't think he wouldn't side with you saving Clem just because you didn't save Ben or whatnot.

Well, just if you helped Katjaa and duck in earlier episodes, otherwise he just rages because you didn't help them.

You didn't do anything wrong. The game is frankly ridiculous in this regard. It's also possible that the software simply didn't carry over your decisions from one episode to the next. And even if it did, as you noticed, it didn't make any sense of the decisions it recognized that you DID make.

Just enjoy it for the poorly built point and click adventure that it is. It's a pleasant slice of The Walking Dead world, an atmospheric story with some interesting twists and turns. Forget the 'your choices matter' hype. That's essentially nonsense, which distracts from what's enjoyable about it.

A few people have said this is not the deciding factor, but if it is it's completely random. You're at the point where you may have been this guy's angel for four episodes, even to the point where you took over the responsibility for putting his zombie son to rest, and he's still telling to piss off, still telling you that you're a selfish pig and you can go look for your adoptive daughter without him.

At which point TTG decides that the key factor will be if you can sweet talk the guy. Not four episodes worth of behavior and getting his back, but rather one sentence of perusasive conversation wins him over? Hogwash.

Your choices matter, but in bizarre and incomprehensible ways. The whole Kenny storyline turned into a disaster. The longest lasting character aside from Clem and Lee turned out to be addicted to whining. Molly is the kind of character that would have been a lot more fun and interesting to have along for the entire ride.

I told Kenny that, and he was willing to come - until I chose Ben too... then it seemed I had to choose... so... to hell with Kenny and his Drama-llama.
