What is the purpose of those "statements" that appear on screen after I do things?

edited October 2012 in The Walking Dead
You know the ones. Like after I tell Clementine what happened to Duck it might read "Clementine will remember your honesty" or when I give Duck my water it might say "Kenny will remember that you gave Duck water". What do these statements do and why is it so hard to find OUT what they do??

It notifies you that this will affect the story! - in most cases anyway, some characters have died seconds after these notifications have popped up..

It could either give you a sense of 'Oh fuck, now I'm screwed this guy will hate me..' or 'Oh yeeah, I'm set!' depending on what you said/did.

Agreed. You can opt to turn those notifications on or off. I believe that it is just generally letting you know that the game is somehow quantifying what you've chosen on the back end to use as potential reference later. In the cases where someone dies right after this sort of thing, it's all about immersion; that moment occurs as though they weren't about to die so that their death is still a surprise and immersive.

they basically say what the game has recorded you've done. They may not actually effect the story(most do in minor ways though).

I turn them off. I don't need the game to tell me "Lily will remember that." Her snarl is enough.

I think it would be a great feature of the game if they actually did something and you could actually see how they impact. I also think the purpose of these statements should be addressed in instructions. ARE there any instructions? Where does it tell inexperienced gamers like me what to do when the letters "Q" or "E" appears on screen?

The worst of these statements was "Carly will remember that" followed by a her head being blown off. That was it for me with Lily. She was left behind because of just that one statement.

I think that's a little much, but I would like a collector's item with a spreadsheet of how all decisions break down. That'd be useful for replays. If they don't print one for us, I might try to make one.

That was to give you a false sense of security so you wouldnt know she was about to die.

I suppose they're useful to inform you on who your building bridges with, and who your knocking down....i find them handy so i know who to keep an eye on in future convo's.

I turned these updates off because they take you out of the game. It's more immersive if you are just making decisions, and you have no idea which decisions will come back to bite you or not.

How much do my decisions affect the game though?

It depends on the decision. Some lead Clem to draw a different picture later on, some set a darker or lighter tone for future conversations, and recently choices dictate who you're bringing with you into episode 5.

it's just a myth about the different drawings?? I was going to do a mean to clementine playthrough to see the differences but if it just makes her more sad and same pics and stuff then not worth the heartache to see clem hate me:p
