edited October 2012 in The Walking Dead

I didn't drop him, because I'm not a heartless jerk. Sure Ben fucks up a lot, but he actually took responsibility for it, and telling Kenny he accidently killed Katjaa and Duck while he was pissed took guts. If Vernon and Lee hadn't grabbed him, Kenny would've "ringed his bell." And he came with me, so did Kenny.

    TL;DR: Ben will redeem himself.

I find it interesting, and a little disturbing, that the stats show more players helped Larry than they did Ben...

Wow. I'm sorry, but wasn't Larry an asshole, and never had 1 pleasant conversation with you? I know people hate Ben, but at least he didn't go "Fuck you lee, suck my 3-ton cock." In every conversation.

Yeah, I mean what does it say for the person that, lets face it, murders another person for being stupid? Lets call it what it is, murder. You can pull the guy up but if you decide to let go, even if he is telling you to let go, it is still murder, in cold blood even.

I'm not really interested in Ben redeeming himself, I couldn't care less. He's a kid, stupid, but he's a kid thrown into a world that has gone to hell. He won't be the only stupid kid out there who doesn't know how to survive.

I did find that whole situation with him removing the axe from the door a bit gamey. I mean, did he not notice the zombies at the door? And if they weren't there at the time, where were they? Not his fault that TTG put poor Ben into that unfortunate situation :P...

I think you missed the "disturbing" part in my post. I chose to help both :)

At least he was ready to take his beating like a champ.

at least he didn't try to run and hide. He was even read to punch his own ticket when he saw that he was being a burden to the group.

only the heartless would let him wallow in his own blood and self pity of his assisted suicide.

In that case I chose to have Ben redeem himself by feeding walkers.
Its all he was ever good for since Ep2

meh but larry was a danger to the group a real danger as in he was about to turn in to a zombie a 50/50 chance, also the fact he hated you made it a 60/40 and that it was right for me to kill larry, he woudla been to big to take down and with clem in the room...i'm not taking that chance for essentialy an asshole. and eventhough he was an asshole he was still kidna helpfull when he was dead with those coins in his pocket :)

Ben is...indisposed. And, yeah, I'm one of the folks that liked Larry a bit more, since after punching you in the first episode he doesn't do anything else to endanger the group until his heart attack. I'll take impoliteness over incompetence any day of the week when in a ZA.

And some of Larry's insults were just too funny to not like.:D

"I'll rip your goddamn heads off! And make you swallow them!"

and let's not forget when he calls Lee "Daddy-o". That made my day.

Yeah, unlike Ben, Larry was anything but boring.

Ben will probably redeem himself by amputating Lee's bitten arm...only that Ben actually manages to amputate Lee's not-bitten arm, instead. He's Ben, after all!
  • edited October 2012
Nah, he's more than that, if Lee asks Ben to amputate his left arm, Ben'll cut off the right foot.

hes a walker then, maybe he'll come back and kill the walkie guy for you?

He'd better do something great for the group before he dies. That would probably be a nice way to send the character off.

Ya know, for a while there during ep 2 I thought they were gonna make Larry even more unlikable, specifically when talking to Mark, you're asked why Larry hates you, and you could respond 'Because he's a racist a*shole'. Had they revealed the character of Larry to be a racist, and tied that partly with his dislike toward Lee? Pretty sure he would have topped even ben as the most hated character of the game.

Prior to ep 2, I assumed that was partly where they were going with the character (I almost saw him as the idiotic and troublesome Mr. cooper in Night of the Living Dead until Ep 2 showed Larry as not that bad of a guy)

Still, it is refreshing that TT didn't make any characters lean overly 'good' or overly 'evil' in your group, so I'm glad they didnt go that route.

Lee will ask Ben to amputate his left arm.
Ben will in turn cut off Christa's right leg.
    "Did I do good Lee!?"

I believe Ben will redeem himself. Having one more able-bodied person is better than down one. Worst comes to worst he can end up being like that girl screaming at the pharmacy. But the most important thing that he did reveal to the group was that everyone is infected and it's not the bite that makes you turn. Just like in TWD show Jenner tells Rick that everyone is infected and he ends up telling the group later. And like the comic book if you amputate the bitten limb fast enough you have a good chance of not getting infected and turning like last weeks episode of TWD TV Show Hershel gets his leg chopped off.

I'm glad that Larry is dead though, he was a walking maniac jerk off always mouthing off and bring morale down a lot. If this group was run like Crawford then Larry would've been long gone.

If this group was like run like Crawford then Larry,Duck,Clem,Ben,Christa,Chuck and Omid would've been long gone.Lilly and Kenny could of been considered too argumentative and disrupting and Lee is now bitten so he's out.

Who does that leave us with: Katjaa,Mark and Doug/Carley.

edit:I wonder what Oberson would of thought of the battery incident...
  • edited October 2012
I'm betting Oberson would've kicked out anyone that was battery-challenged. Given Crawford's standards, I don't think they would've kept anyone except pre-bitten Lee and Mark. Kenny and Kat are no-goes since they have Duck. Lilly is also a no-go because she won't abandon Larry who won't be allowed.

I'm not sure how he can do something super important when we have the option to kill him off. Generally the game seems to hoist important actions onto one of two characters, based on which one you let die earlier, the other one may step in and fill that role. But anything super ground-breaking or important probably doesn't get written out because you let someone die.

At least, that's the feeling I'm getting from this. I've done multiple rewinds and played entire run-throughs with one character over the other, and then the opposite, just to see what happened, and ultimately in the end, the choices you make don't really have a lasting impact on major choices like that.

I just didn't really like Ben. I felt bad for him, sure. I don't think he's more than a kid, but he's NOT a kid. He's old enough to know better in a lot of situations, and he doesn't. He acts selfish and well...like a kid. And it's hard to tolerate him when we already have a child around and SHE'S more adult than he was. Clem has endangered the group fewer times than Ben has at this point, and she's definitely been WAY more helpful.

I honestly have no clue what could happen. Ben could redeem himself, or TT could trick us and have him mess up again. also, I hope walker ben shows up ( not in my game, he is alive ) and does something. that would be great.
  • edited October 2012
I hope not. To me, he's like Corporal Upham in Saving Private Ryan. He's not "bad", just completely out of his element, and just can't handle the situation. It's such a trope - the guy that can't do anything right saves you in the end, sometimes by sacrificing himself. I hope they don't go that route.

I like the idea that Ben as a zombie attacks the walkie talkie guy, that would be so funny, hes more useful in death.
  • edited October 2012
If Ben was Zombiefied I'd like to see him walk into a room the alive group are trapped in and charge at Clem only to then fall through a rotten floorboard and creating an escape route for the survivers, Oh zombie Ben what are you like?....
  • edited October 2012
I saved Ben and got the whole group to come with me,Ben promised to make it right with Clem and Kenny.

If he breaks that promise...like Lee said it won't just be walkers he has to worry about.
  • edited October 2012
since 'ben broke his legs' if you drop him he'll be a crawler not a walker.
  • edited October 2012
I think Ben will do SOMETHING to redeem himself. Maybe not anything groundbreaking, but if Lee puts his trust in him one last time by allowing him to come, I wouldn't doubt him doing something to make up for all the wrong he's caused. Maybe while Lee and the walkie-guy are fighting, Ben gets Clem and takes her back to the boat with whoever else is still alive? Whatever he does will probably be with Clem, considering that she's the one who stands up for him in Crawford (if she comes) and is, in general, the only member of the group who actually likes him.
