The darkest hour is unquestionably the RV trip. You lose Carley/Doug, then Ducks death senteance, then you lose Lilly, then you lose Katjaa. In the space of 30 minutes you lose 4 characters.
Now if we're talking about a singular moment, it's Frank Anne (as I'm calling him) in the attic. As if becoming a walker wasn't a pathetic enough fate for anyone, a child starving to death alone in his own house, so weak that he can't even stand up is a truly pitiful sight. It's not a scene you want to give too much thought towards, a truly depressing moment.
A lot, but one that stood out to me was Ben's death.
He was just a kid trying to survive, he made a few mistakes, got flustered and gave up on himself
Well Ben only dies if you let him go....not the darkest hour I'd say since it is "your" choice. I think those deaths that you cannot stop are the ones that matter, just my opinion.
I had to vote for the dinner scene and the meat locker. That was all about exactly how low you (or other people) were willing to stoop in order to survive. One of your group members has his legs hacked off (and is kept alive), followed by the family feeding said legs to the group. Then, having been locked in the meat locker in order to be slaughtered and traded for meat, Larry has his heart attack. Either way, a member of the group graphically smashes in the head of another member in the immediate aftermath of the cannibal dinner with the nearest object on hand.

Personally, I'm all for epic moments. Leaving Andy screaming in the rain was epic.
The Duck / Kaatja moment was horrible in all the right ways for the genre. Also, the boy in the attic. It made me very upset.
