Would you have left Clem with Vernon and his group ?

edited November 2012 in The Walking Dead
Question says it all really. Say if Vernon demanded an answer there and then after the group got back from Crawford and he had nothing to do with radio man. Clem was willing to do whatever you thought was best and none of the group will go against what you decide. Lee is not allowed to come with her to the bunker and neither is anyone else for whatever reason. What would you choose? Leave Clem in a stocked up bunker with Vernon and his gang or take her with you on the boat into the big bad world and hope for something better? Is she really safer with Vernon than with Lee? Its a pretty difficult choice and in most playthroughs i saw, people asked for more time to decide.

I personally would have kept Clem with me. I think i would have let Vernon take her. They seemed to be stocked up and safe with their supplies and it is sure as hell alot safer than travelling the coast on a boat with our small group, hoping to find somewhere safe and defendable.

What would you guys do?

No, Vernons group is no safer than anyone else. It'd be only a matter of time before one of them died.
Personally instead of the boat I'd maybe consider a 2nd attempt at securing Crawford.

Isnt Crawford filled with walkers? Not to mention we dont know if all the people in Crawford were killed, maybe there are small groups of survivors dotted about the place? Maybe they are thinking the same thing? Im sorry but a small group staying in a bunker with food and beds is a hell of a lot safer than taking on a entire settlement of (hopefully) just walkers.

And even if they died of old age or disease, its not like Vernon couldnt shoot them in the head right after they do so.

I would imagine the place is locked down so it should be a limited number of walkers. The amount of resources they have makes it worth considering, as resources are the major need and cause of danger.

Vernons group are stuck in 1 room with only 1 way out. I believe you'll see at the start of Ep5 why that's not a good thing.

I would not let Vernon take care of Clementine. He couldn't even shoot Lee when he accidentally infiltrated their hideout. If he can't defend himself against strangers, what makes you think he can keep Clementine safe? She'll be stuck with a bunch of old sick folks who can barely survive. I don't care if he had kids of his own, this is the apocalypse not normal society as we used to know what it was. It's like what Chuck said, you're not a man, a woman, a boy, a girl, a child, you're either living or you ain't. I doubt Vernon would ever let Clementine handle a loaded gun. If she doesn't know how to use a gun she'll never survive in this world.

The living are more dangerous than the dead.

    Touché :D

Mind you, we did see large numbers of walkers in Crawford in the school and rooting them out could be difficult and dangerous. As well as the risk of other survivors.

And provided the group stay really quiet and wait it out, wouldn't the horde move past them and through the city? Not quite sure how many zombies are above them. And couldn't the group sneak to another part of the city through the sewers?

I told him no. The only person I know who will put Clem's saftey first and foremost is myself. There are no safe places anymore, she is in danger anywhere she goes. Vernon may seem nice enough but not nice enough to just give my child to, and in my eyes Clem is my kid. If her parents miraculously appear I may consider it but not to some old man in a sewer.

No way, first of all, Vernon never gave any reason to trust him to such a high extent, and now that a Playing Dead episode revealed that he knew about the herd but still didn't warn Lee, I'm perfectly happy with my choice which involved telling him off. Another thing is that when he talks to you he acts as if he has a safe place, but they abandoned the bunker in Savannah after he saw the herd coming so his group isn't intrinsically safer or better off than mine.

Honestly, the guy comes off as self-righteous hypocrite to me now, he gets all upset if you're not perfectly honest to him even if the only dishonest thing you do is tell him Clem's your daughter, but then he doesn't warn you of the herd and doesn't tell you that his group is moving to a new place.

I told Vernon off after Lee and the group returned to the house. If there is the possibility that Lee dies and you get to choose who takes care of Clem, I would put her in the care of Vernon and his group.

I did consider the possibility, but in the end I'd say no. I know it's a bit selfish, but I couldn't let her go like that. Not because she wouldn't really be safer with Vernon, but simply because I see her as Lee's responsiblity until he is gone. And I know their group is made of nice people, but I don't know, I don't like Vernon enough to leave Clementine with him.

Vernons group are old and dont know her. Clem would be lonely.
They will run out and the fact is clems too good a charecter to let walk away.

Nope! "That little girl's in my care. We've been through more together than you can imagine. Anyone who tries to get between me and her, anyone, IS GONNA WIND UP DEAD!"

his group were no better off than ours (in my opinion), they seemed like the B team to me, but i said i would think about it just incase everybody died and i needed another group to help protect clementine

Lee's already proven he can take care of Clem. It's been 3-4 months and she's still alive, while Vernon's daughter died in the opening days. His arguement didn't exactly inspire confidence in me. Plus, I doubt he could ever care for Clem as much as Lee does.

It seemed like Vernon's group only had a single gun, and he could barely use it when Lee approached him. That gives me the impression that his group can't defend themselves. They lucked out finding the fallout shelter and all that food, but the supply won't last. It may keep them going but eventually it will run out, and then what? They can traverse the city easily through the sewers, but there is nothing left in Savannah.

Combine that with the appearance that they can't defend themselves, and i don't think they would survive. They've lived so far by avoiding the walkers, never confronting them. When the time comes that they must leave their shelter to find supplies, i think most or all of his group would fall prey to the walkers, and Clementine too if she were with them.

In the short term, she might be safer with Vernon. In the long term, however, i think she would be in far more danger than if she stayed with Lee.

    Walk away, Vernon.

At first I told him I'd think about it, but I didn't think about the fact that his daughter is dead. So... probably not then, unless I saw proof that people in the group were good fighters (it doesn't appear as if any were).

No, Vernon seems like a nice guy and all but you aren't around him long enough to know what he really is like. Lee and Clem have been through it all. So leaving her alone with some guy you've known for a short period of time. I think not.

I'd reconsider if it was some sort of military base and they were actual government officials. But they were living underground with old people who were cancer survivors (and none of them really looked like they were star athletes). I really don't think they'd last too long myself.

personally any guy you've just met within an hour wants to take a young innocent girl off your hands..

hell will freeze over before i'd do that...
