I think you guys have it all wrong. If we play as a character from the past game (Kenny, Clem, Omid, etc) that has developed quite well, they will lose their "Personally". Think about it, if we were able to play as clem, she would lose her innocents, if we played as Kenny, he wouldn't be the jackass he's always been. We as the audience would make him do things his character wouldn't normally do.
I think having a new normal character come into the game would work. We would see their side of the story and see how they have survived. A experienced vet or some cool walker killing machine wouldn't be as fun as an ordinary person that we can relate to. I think that's what really makes the walking dead franchise really shine. We are able to see ourselves in the characters and believe we would act like the characters would in their situations.

But my logic says we wont be seeing normal people the longer we go on. Most of those people shall be dead not unless they living in a city like Woodbury or something to that extent. If Clem runs across someone they shall be someone with survival skills not a business man.
It has to be a new person. There's really no one else that's leading role material but I feel Clem should be an important and integral character for next season : ).

Like others I think that season 2 should feature new people instead of the ones we already know backstory and character and everything. Maybe that is one of the reasons why I absolutely hated the cheap cliffhanger at the end: I don't really expect it to be solved.
On the other hand the developers made the game in a way that we are quite sure what people survived and what people didn't and that is the same for every walkthrough. Why would they do that if they don't want to feature the (complete) old cast in the new game again? I just hope it will only be some connections (like there will be another reasonable explanation for the hordes of zombies in the city at the coast, clems hat you can find somewhere, or meeting one of the characters for a short time), so they really can focus on making a good story with rich characters for example in a city area. If clem is main protagonist in the new season, then I can predict she would die half way through, just to break our heart. I only want to know that clem is save for now and I don't want to know more, because everybody has to die sometime and I do not want to see that happening.
And the new guys: I hope the main character is not some navy badass or hunter or anything that is "good" in this scenario. Because I would like to play someone "normal" and not superman. Don't mind having navy guy in main cast and dieing in first episode though. :P
