It felt like telltale reached Warhammer 40k levels of girmdark with Lee's story

edited November 2012 in The Walking Dead
After a while I stopped caring because I knew TWD was determined to shit on his life as hard as possible before letting him "die a hero's death" at the end.

That's not to say I wasn't hoping he'd live somehow at the end, and I wasn't saddened by what happened ultimately, but it seems like telltale tried to sell the "gloom always sads ZA nothing ever works out EVER sucks to be you bro" angle a little too hard.

I think Lee's death would have been effective had he had more positive things to look back on/live for than just raising clem ( i really only felt bad for clem, not lee at all. and maybe that was the point? i dont know). There's only so much tragedy you can run a character through before the audience stops caring.

That's why i liked Rick's journey more in the comics, its riddled with both triumph and sadness, so the low points feel more poignant.

Again not bashing the game, I greatly enjoyed it but it feels like TT sold themselves short.

Any one else feel the same?

Nope. Clem won't fall to the Slaanesh until S2 at the earliest, so it's not that the appropriate grimdark level yet.

Maybe I'm just weird but right there, that one reason does it for me. Throughout every episode all Lee wanted to do was protect Clem, even if you're a dick Lee will always love Clem in every game. The last images he sees is Clem going into the world, alone. He can no longer protect her, all he can do is hope that she's ready.

It's only made worse because he has always wanted kids (as revealed in the conversation with the Stranger, if you say certain things). Clem was what he always wanted. He probably wanted to always be there for her, through everything, protect her always. He can no longer do that.

Sorry, it's hard to articulate my thoughts here... Just thinking about it makes my eyes tear a little bit. I mean I think about the life Lee and Clem would have if he weren't bitten and it's just so heartbreaking. Every other bad scenario doesn't even compare (e.g. losing his love interest and best friend). I mean I don't even know how you couldn't care about Lee's feelings here, Clem is his life, he'd trade ANYTHING for her.
