Could Telltale possibly outdo themselves?

edited December 2012 in The Walking Dead
A videogame has never made me cry. But I was pretty damn close when I played the finale of The Walking Dead. The guys at Telltale have done such an amazing job conveying emotions with the most vivid storytelling I've ever seen in an adventure game (or perhaps any game for that matter).

The question is, could Season 2 possibly top this? After seeing a game this well-made, I'm actually starting to doubt it. What do you think?

    I think so

Yes, why not? They know that people have interest in this game and spent more money in it. But i hope they cut the 2-3 hours per Episode so they have more freedom to tell the story. I didnt have anything against a thirty minute episode (if they dont make the game shorter).

Honestly? I'm kind of skeptical about Season 2 (and not just because I'd like to hear more about Telltale's other projects instead).

I think part of what made The Walking Dead game so great is that it encapsulated everything good about its source material while filtering out all the bad. While the comic's premise of being "the zombie movie that never ends" is interesting, as it goes on you begin to feel...fatigued. After 100 issues of horrible things happening, you can kind of predict what's coming up. Telltale managed to convey that same feeling of a huge timeframe in a much smaller space, and it ended in a way that (more or less) provided closure.

I can understand why Telltale's making a Season 2. The Walking Dead has easily been their most popular game yet, and from a business perspective they'd be crazy not to do it. But I feel that if they turn The Walking Dead into a franchise, it'll run the same risk of getting...fatigued, just like the comic and show.

I'd say it depends on how they approach it.

If each season is it's own story-capsule, then I'd say they have a good shot at it.

If it's the continuing adventures of Clem...... hard to say.

They certainly have a lot on their plate this time. Even if they don't outdo themselves, and make something just as good as the first season, they need to avoid treading old ground.

In sense of story, probably. In case of nostalgia, absolutely not.

They could have a fleshed out romantic subplot. Like they almost had up to episode 3.

there must be so many thing they have learned from making the first one that i think its possible for them to make the second season better.

They outdo themselves constantly. Check out the difference between Sam and Max S1 and S3.

I think they can do it, as long as they get a good quality protagonist. They need somebody who can top Lee, which I think will be pretty hard.

If they did it once, why not again?

I voted 'no' though cause the connection between Lee and Clem was something special that lasted through the entire season. Had it not been for someone being near me when I played the finale, I probably would have shed a tear at the ending.

I dont think season 2 would be better than season 1. Because of the most games the second one sucks like black ops 2, halo 2 and a lot of other games. And i also think it would suck because Lee isnt in it.

Will still be good but no. Not as good. But keep Clem. Leaving the plot is bad story telling, just lazy ohh lets start again. A cop out

yes i believe they can do much much better

I don't know why they couldn't. When I read their game description on the website, I had no idea how I would end up feeling about the characters by the end of the season. Obviously, they can make characters that people have strong feelings for, and they can write an interesting story. I look forward to what they have in store for us next.

how do we know Lee isn't going to be in the 2nd one? what if Lee just fell asleep or turns into a cool zombie lol! Also Same with Kenny, we don't know if he died do we?

I say: no; if I am wrong I am pleased about it; if I am right I am not disappointed :P
Lee is as dead as Carley..

The five stages of grief. Stage one: Denial. :(

Anything is possible. If they did season 1 this well, i see no reason why they can't do the next one just as well or even better. They could bring Clementine back, develop her even more, then kill her as a final goodbye.

Either way, i expect we'll continue to be beaten into the ground until we're emotional husks.

I've got to agree with this. Starting fresh with new characters every time would be the way to go. In my opinion, with
    Lee's death
they hit the emotional high/low point of the story that cannot really be surpassed if they continue to focus exclusively on Clem.

    Lee's dead, end of story.

Telltale did leave Kenny's fate a little ambiguous, though. I mean, he almost definitely died, but it was done in a way so if they wanted to they could bring him back later.

I think they'll be able to outdo themselves for sure. The way they made the game was almost perfect, but there are so many things they could do that they haven't done yet.

If they can keep the storytelling as strong as the fist season whilst also improving the, frankly, lackluster gameplay* then I believe season 2 can outdo season one.

*Gee, I wonder where I should put this ladder I just picked up? Perhaps on literally the only spot the game lets me click. Steep difficulty curve is steep!

I think they can probably make a better game, but unfortunately they've burned a few too many bridges to let it have the same impact. Since there are ultimately no real choices in season 1 people are going to be skeptical that the choices in S2 are real. Which of course they won't be for the most part, it's impossible to write in that many real choices. Still that tension of wondering which choices were real in S1 won't be there.

Hmm,and what if Clem shot him?
He would resurrect and we would play Lee with a hole in his head? ^^
