Episode 5...kinda a let down
While I'm glad to know there will be more with a second season for the game...
Episode 5 just didn't live up to the rest of the game. Not only was it far shorter then all the other episodes but...the choices you make don't seem to matter at all. It always ends the same...Kenny always dies...Clem always winds up out in a field completely by herself no matter what you do, and you always get stuck with Christa and Omid.
So...what's the point of any of your previous choices? Why bother going out of your way to be friends with Kenny if he's always going to die anyway? Why couldn't I choose to leave Christa to die instead? It's her own fault for being retarded.
I keep hoping of course that maybe he didn't die...and we'll find out in the next season.
I hope so. Kenny and Clem were pretty much the only reasons I was playing lol

You are making choices to prove show a what type of person you would be in Apocalypse. Can you justify all the actions you did or did not, were you the guy you wanted to be? Choices should matter to you. Were you good enough? You can see that clearly at the dialog with the walkie talkie guy. You give an answer to yourself and not to those characters who die anyway.
I see that and I get that, but at the start of the game it claims that the choices you make affect the game...which would suggest that it's more then just determining Lees personality, and you actually see that in the other episodes but in this one...it seriously doesn't matter what you say or do because the result will be the same no matter what. You can be a goody goody or a complete jerk and it won't make a bit of difference. I think if you decide to be mean to Christa and Omid that they should refuse to help you at all or they should decide that they're not going to help Clem but...no matter what they still say they will. I wish I could leave Christa to die when she jumps down to get the radio instead of letting Kenny jump down to save her stupid self.
I was also sad to see that Ben never gets a chance to prove himself or make up for his past mistakes. If you still have him all he does is screw up again and get Kenny killed or whatever actually happens to him. I think they should have made him do something that would help the group after you save his life in the bell tower. You go out of your way to give him one last chance, Let him have more of a heroic death. Ben has seriously done nothing but get all my favorite characters killed. *sigh* waste of space.
I played it like it was Lee and Clem against the world, then when Lee was bit...it was all about Clem...I liked Kenny but if he tried to get in the way of Clem surviving I would have killed him too no problem. Glad that didn't happen cause he was bud. I hope he made it. I made sure he had all of my bullets just so he'd have a chance.
It does affect the game. It's what they say, it's a tailored experience.
Like Clem's hoodie. If you don't give it to her she won't wear it and Campman won't make a comment about it. It's not plot-twisting or turning but it's... tailored. Arm or no arm... There's not a major difference in gameplay but the game kind of just tests you different types of scenarios you'd be confronted with during a zombie infestation
I'm only talking about episode 5's choices....not the ones from previous episodes which are brought up in 5. I think there should be consequences to being a jerk in 5...but there isn't any...but maybe we'll see them better in season 2.
I think my biggest complaint is simply how short it was though.
But, Otherwise I adored every moment of the episode. Aside the deaths, of course. Fucking sad. ARGH KENNY!!! FUCKKKK!
And the point of developing relationships with characters is so you, the player, feels connected to the character. You cared about the character and watching him sacrifice himself makes it x20 more emotional. This has happened in every other episode regardless. Also this game, or rather universe, is based around the thought that no one is a "sacred cow", anyone can die. Including someone you care about so much / is as important to the plot as Kenny.
From a walking dead story point of view however I can see why they did what they did. Point is even if you save people in the walking dead as Lily says "Your only one man". You can try to do good and change things but people are going to do stupid things, they will die and you can't control it. Your just another shmuck at the end of the world, your not superman and the world doesn't revolve around you and your choices.
It's about the Journey not the destination.
Clem: Oh look my parents! (Pauses to tick box on checklist)
And that's that done.
Really this should have been a big scene of its own and really needed more time.
Perhaps the fact that she knows contrasts simply contrasts with Ben who dies without the faintest idea of what became of his family, but I still could not believe how flippantly the game dealt with what I had anticipated would be a huge moment.
They have the resources and know now that its going to be a success as they have made a lot of loyal fans here, what they need to do is exploit this launch pad to the fullest and make a truly great experience for the next season with maybe multiple plotlines and decisions that hold weight. Will miss Lee though
