Kenny's destiny

edited January 2013 in The Walking Dead
I know everybody is tired about arguing about if kenny died or not in episode 5, so did I. My opinion at first was that he died, end of story, but after I finished it again I think there's no answer yet. It's not the "obvious he died there was no escape" or the "we didn't saw or hear him die".

TTG didn't start thinking about season 2 when making episode 5, so they didn't know if Kenny can fit and add something to the next season. He was the 5 episodes with Lee as much as Clem, so he could be very useful in making references to the previous season and add interest to the previous players of TWD.

After they work on season 2 storyline they will see if this is a good idea or there's no way/need for that. That gives freedom to TTG to use him or not, if not, he died saving Ben/Christa, and if he is useful, they will come with something and that will not contradict what we saw, heard in season 1.

My point is, I will assume that he died there for the circunstances that happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try mind blowing the fans with his unexpected appereance.

What do you think? Do you think they put Kenny's fate on hold or he's out?

    Knowing TTG, probably on hold.

They would've shown his death, then.

I agree. Some characters they don't show dying for their importance and appeal to the fans. Kenny would fit in that point, but I think there's more to it, and that include a posible return.

i am the kind of person who wont believe he is alive until i see him alive (same goes with dead) so he is basically in the same purgatory like state Lilly is in, neither dead or alive, but Gavin Hammon did tell me to "Keep hope alive" on twitter so i guess that is what we should do :)

Wait, Kenny's VA said to keep hope alive?! The man's alive I tell you! ALIVE!

My joyous outburst notwithstanding, I think Kenny's fate is on hold right now. As someone said earlier, he's like in some kind of purgatory where we won't know what truly happened to him until Season 2. If they bring him back, then he survived. If we don't see him or he isn't referenced, then he died with Ben/saving Christa. Here's hoping the guy managed to get out ok. *crosses fingers*

There are a lot of loose ends on TWD game. Like Lilly and Omid and Christa and Kenny.

Uh, I don't know. I'd think he survived, but on the Ben scene it seems he gets bitten, so... I wouldn't expect him to appear on Season 2.

Kenny's dead and gone forever imo. I would actually lose respect for TT if he comes back, it would seem like fan service.

its obvious he's still alive. they even foreshadowed kenny getting bit and lying about it.

About Kenny being bitten in that scene, as I was replaying that scene I looked closely and he doesn't get bitten (although it is posible). The walker came close to him and he puts his arm close to his mouth to back him off, but there's no blood to be seeing, kenny doesn't take the arm with pain, nothing. He just back the walker off and go kill Ben.

About his reappereance be a fan service for telltale I desagree. I would be pissed if Carley, Doug, Ben, Shawn reappear man, don't you think?? The man that we didn't see or hear dying is a way to let the fans down and then getting then excited. I know about the argument "this is walking dead, everybody will die" and until I see Kenny again my opinion is that he is dead, even because I want to shit bricks if he reappears, but this is not a fail for telltale, because she needs characters from season 1 to make valid our saves from that season to count on season 2, and Kenny is one of the best for that.

Obviously Kenny shot Ben and ran away, a familiar situation just like Shawn Greene's death. That's what I thought lately lol

...Ohmahgawd ... Gavin said that? HE SAID THAT? OH MAH GAWD.
Now my pain waiting for season 2 is even greater. DARN IT...
Keep hope alive, My friend. Keep hope alive.

Lee got trapped in an alleyway in Episode 4, didn't he? He escaped into the sewers, with the help of Molly, but is it really that out of the park that Kenny could have done the same? I mean, he DID see Lee do that very thing about a day or two before Ben fell from the balcony. Chuck managed to escape into the sewers too, without any help whatsoever. Of course he died, but Lee wasn't pursued when he did it. So Kenny may have gotten into the sewers.

In the Christa scenario, there's still a lot of walkers, but not as many as the alley scene. Kenny would also have more room to move around and evade them, albeit in darkness. If he managed to last long enough he might have found a door or something and run further into the building, away from the walkers. Perhaps he was even able to lie low until the walkers forgot about him and slipped outside. It's not impossible for him to have actually survived, although it IS unlikely.

Even though we don't see Kenny die it is so heavily implied I don't think Telltale will write him in to the second season. When Lilly was last seen in the walking dead comics it was again, heavily implied that she was dead and Kirkman said he has moved on from the prison. He has no intention to go back there or bring back the Lilly character. Rick's people have moved on from that. Like wise I think Telltale who are trying to get there game as close to the spirit of the comics as possible, will move on from Kenny. I think they will want to create new characters with new stories. they have already told Kenny's story. We know his past and his suffering. I think they will want to spend season 2 developing new characters and fleshing them out well enough for us to care as much about them as we did the characters from season 1. Although it's not impossible for them to bring him back, doing so would make season one's story less sad and less credible. I personally wouldn't accept his return as being realistic.

When Kenny was in the Alley way Omid and Christa had a look out's vantage point over the street to warn Lee and Kenny. They lost sight of Kenny because he was lost to the herd. There wasn't any way he could have exited the alley way in the streets with out them seeing and both exits were blocked by walkers. Even if there was a manhole as some have suggested as a possible escape route, how would he pry it open? Lee needed Molly's tool to do open the manhole he used. As for the scenario when he is in a dark room with a group of walkers, it would be unrealistic for him to have escaped that.

I don't think telltale need to spell out everything. I think in the world of the walking dead if a possibility for escape is improbable for a character it is safe to assume they are probably dead. The world they live in is hard to survive at the best of times. I can't think of a time in TWD comics where I was surprised by the return of a character that was presumed dead or last scene in a dire situation or a situation where they were without a weapon, alone without hope. Morgan wasn't last seen in danger when Rick left him to go Atlanta so it was 50/50% chance he would be alive when Rick went to check if he was still at the house where he met him. When Tyreese was locked in the gym he had a weapon and had shown himself to be proficient with it in previous issues. When the governor and Carl recovered from their injuries they had access to medical care and equipment.

It was realistic that Chuck didn't make it despite having a weapon since he was swarmed by walkers without any tactical advantage, like wise it would be more realistic if Kenny didn't make it since he was in a worst situation than Chuck. But when all is said and done. Time will tell and we won't truly know until season 2 ends but I can't see Kenny making it out of the Alley/zombie filled building let alone escaping Savannah and reuniting with Clementine. If Lee wasn't important enough to the story for Telltale to have him in both seasons Kenny won't be. Lee's role was Clementine's care taker and teacher. Telltale can have another character to take that role without bringing back Kenny. Kenny wasn't even close to Clementine. I don't have any memory of seeing her with him. She would be with Kat,Duck,Ben,Carly, Christa and spoke of time she spent with Lilly like how Lilly would give her hair bands and help manage her hair before she went to bed but she never referred to Kenny nor was she seen engaging with him at any time in the story. I say this to say Kenny had no real connection or relationship with Clementine for his association with her to matter for season 2. Kenny's role whatever that was, can easily be filled, he was not indispensable.

Yeah, I saw that too and heard a little chomp sound. I still hope he's alive :|

If we see him against, he'll be down one hand. He got bitten.

Even if Clementine was the only survivor from season 1, our file saves would still be relevant because she would make reference to her observations and experiences which were based on our choices as Lee. Kenny return isn't vital for our game saves to carry over. The game says "she will remember that". For example Clementine in a conversation with a new character could mention things that the player chose Lee to teach her or tell her. If Christa is alive, which I expect she will be she would have been with Clementine and Lee long enough to make reference to things we did or said in previous episodes and she would have learned a little about the experiences Clementine's companions had before she was with them from key points in previous episodes like in the attic when Kenny talked about Larry and Lilly and when she learned of Kat and the others dying etc.

Where is he running to? He was blocked off at both exits of the alley way by the herd, not to mention the streets were so congested by zombies that the rest of the group had to travel from the roof tops. He didn't have the freedom of Hershel's farm to dodge and evade them. The only exit was the gate he closed off, where Lee was waiting and he moved off screen away from it towards more walkers and was followed by the others. He accepted he was going to die when he told lee he needed to do this. He had a look of hopelessness on his face but was at peace with the idea. He acknowledged that he didn't have anyone left. His family were dead. The last bit of hope was gone when Vernon stole the boat, specially if Vernon kicked his ass first before taking it, but he saw that Lee's survival was more important for the sake of Clementine.

I must admit I will feel like a prick if Kenny was in season 2, but then again, i'd feel a bigger prick if I was convinced he lived and he wasn't since my hopes would have been raised for nothing if i wanted his return.
