Thoughts on Episode 2 *Spoilers, obviously*
I realise I'm half a year late with this, but what the heck.
I finished Episode 2 a few days ago and I have to say having done Episode 3 on Friday I am constantly impressed at how these just get better and better. Sadly, I already had the ending (at least what happens to Lee & Clem) spoilt for me by several rude people, but bar that I have no idea about the other characters and the path to get there.
Anyway, am I the only one who was let down by 'the reveal' at Episode 2? They spent so long forshadowing something was going down and I think all of us knew St. Johns was far too perfect before the bandits/walkers arrived. The whole "Tell 'em whatcha got planned!", Danny's clear... uhm... instability, the bloody barn, it just screamed "CANNIBALS!" the whole time and made the reveal sort of... "Really?"
I was expecting the twist to be that there was no twist. The bloody meat was from slaughtered animals or something. I agreed with Lily: get the food, get the hell out of there and if they're good people we can continue a trade. I personally expected Lee to open the barn, find nothing inside, Mark comes out all patched up, but because he went and messed with the generator the zombies begin to pour in and it gets abandoned or the bandits raid the place. Mark, Danny and their mother are obviously unimpressed and Lee/Kenny discuss whether or not to tell anybody about what they did.
Just my thoughts. The climax was excellent though.

^this and that my Rick Senses were tingling.
Episode 2 is my favourite, but it isn't perfect.
I didn't really catch on until I saw Mark, partly because I'm naturally trusting (sometimes), partly because I wanted things to be good. So for me, the reveal was shocking and awesome.
That said, after playing the game, I too think it would have been interesting to have the St. Johns completely innocent, but your suspicion gets you thrown out or gets them killed. What you suggested as an alternative could have been a neat twist.
Still, I loved the episode and just about everything about it.
a bit like the film Tucker and Dale vs Evil where hillbillies living in a cabin in the woods are mistaken to be your typical horror film murderers then hilarity ensues (it's a comedy)
That said, Tucker and Dale vs Evil was a fantastic movie.
Were the pirate senses tingling?
Plus the title.
And when Danny blew off Ben on the way to the farm, it sealed it.
Beginning: This is too good to be true. Surely nothing is going on...
Halfway: But the music is so soothing and Lily is just making me paranoid and although I agree with Kenny that it's worth looking behind that mysterious locked door in the barn just to ease my troubled mind I'm sure everything is going to be fine because the bandits are the real bad guys, right? RIGHT?
Reveal: Aaaaarrrrrggh! Yuck! Ewww! I suspected something but still it's even worse than I imagined!
Ending: Epic!
