Is The Walking Dead retail available outside North America?

I was wondering if there is word on the release date for the disk version of the game (PS3) within the UK, also, would the collectors edition be released here too?

Unfortunately we are not currently planning a retail release outside of North America.

Then do you know if the game is region free?

Is The Walking Dead retail available in Ireland? Just wondering because I'm thinking of getting all 5 episodes on XBLA but I'd rather the disc.

This game is recieving incredible acclaim, alot of people are seriously interested in playing this after the recent goty awards and whatnot...now a retail version comes..not only is the collectors edition limited to 5,000 units in North America...ur not even sending retail copies to Europe, or Asia..what gives telltale?:mad:

    Yeah, they're too small.
  • edited December 2012
And they will stay small if they ignore big markets.
  • edited December 2012
Yeah, big markets like Spain or France.

Germany better not...they will censor the game like they did with dead island 2

Why is this in the "The Walking Dead Story Discussion - SPOILERS" section?

    *gasp* Someone moved it!
  • edited December 2012
Because Telltale are primarily a developer not a publisher. They've managed to do a bit of local (ie NA) retail self publishing but they would need an external publisher for other regions.

they are an indie company fyi..

The game is being distributed as BLU US only. I cannot say whether or not it will run on a European PS3, as it's formatted for North American consoles only.

Telltale is a company from the United States and it is only a publisher in North America. Remember, that at the moment, Telltale is still a relatively small company, employing only around 120 employees. It's still hard for them to co-ordinate worldwide releases, especially with physical products since they have to go through external publishers.

It's out in NA initially. They do have plans to distribute it elsewhere. See this:

    They have plans. Big plans.

Okay, I have no idea. I just really wanted to say that.

Actually, the PS3 is by standard regionfree. However, there is the possibilty to region lock the game, if the Publisher/Developer wants to do so. In 6 years, this has only happend once and that was recently: Persona 4 Arena.

See now i'm really tempted to buy the collectors edition with the comics, but don't want it to get here and it be a waste :(

As mentioned before, with all of the recent awards and as a definite game of the year, I can't see why they wouldn't release it outiside of US. Big step for the company, and we get to play an incredible game.

I would be surprised if there wasn't publishers around the world wanted to partner with Telltale to release a retail version, especially after it winning game of the year. Fingers crossed.

I'm not counting on it, this will end up the same as Jurassic Park (i.e. no retail release in Europe).

Well, I live in Germany and I've ordered the Collectors Edition for the PS3 from GameStop. Got a shipping confirmation on 10th of December and the game arrived on the 12th of December already. And I'm playing it on my PS3 that was bought in Germany. As has been said already, the PS3 has no region lock..

The Collectors Edition surely is impressive. It's a big and heavy box (due to the Compendium) and I really like the artwork of the box. But the Compendium really is what makes this Collectors Edition so special in my opinion. I've never read a single The Walking Dead comic. I'm usually not even into Zombie stuff. But the Walking Dead TV series really got me excited. And the Compendium now holds more than enough to really dig into the story this is all based on. I'm glad I got my hands on the Collectors Edition. Now if there were a retail version for the PC as well with no Steam requirements, I'd buy the game for PC as well.

It makes me laugh. They can release Back to the Future and Mokey Island in the UK, but not Jurassic Park or The Walking Dead! What's up with that?

Actually, those two games were distributed in the UK by third-party publishers (Lace Mamba Global for TOMI, Deep Silver for BTTF).
Hero1 is probably right when he says that it wouldn't be surprising if "publishers around the world wanted to partner with Telltale to release a retail version".
We'll just have to wait and see.

    PS3 = Region Free
    X360 = Region Locked

I'm a 360 gamer, though I own a PS3, but due to the flaws the disc edition has, I am most definitely not importing it to UK until TellTale releases a patch for it.

For the time being I'm perfectly happy with the digital version as it was super cheap and the game is f-king awesome. :)

The Flaws of the disc edition only effects 360 version.
the PS3 version has no issues.
also the PS3 is region free.
so if you have a PS3,then the PS3 version is the version to buy, there is really no reason to buy the broken and region locked 360 version.
as much as I love to play this game,I hate digital downloads, specially for a great game,I want to have the physical copy.SO I'm ordering the PS3 version off ebay (US version) from UK.

If you say so, that's spectacular news and I'll think about it now.

Though, I'd prefer it on Xbox 360 because of the buttons design and the text "saving" is part of the game instead of being customised to PS3's XMB outdated layout.

Since there's not much choice, I'll probably go with PS3 for physical format.
