Why did you region lock the game?

I might not get an answer to this but I figured I might as well ask this anyways or at least put this here so other non-US players know this is the case.

I decided to pre-order the CE of the game and have it shipped to the UK. I knew there was a possibility it might be region locked but guessed there was also a good chance it might not be as many games aren't. It's not the end of the world for me as I already have the Steam version and just fancied having the fancy box, book and possibly some points on my gamerscore. So I chucked the game in my Xbox and bam there's the region lock message instead of the game.

Why did Telltale decide to region lock the retail release of the game? I do appreciate you're a small company or whatever so you might not see the benefits in distributing a retail version overseas. But if it's the only means of people getting this collector's set or even a disc in general what advantage does it really have to lock people out from buying it? The region lock is an optional feature for the publisher not something put to use by Microsoft themselves. Any insight into this decision would be interesting to hear if anyone wants to comment on it :p

pretty sure it is because they are a rather small team and they didn't feel comfortable coordinating a worldwide release. it is not as easy as you might think they have to work with many external sources to make it happen.

but if you really want it you can just order the na retail box

Ah you're missing what I was getting at bud... I did order the NA retail box but it doesn't work in consoles from different regions. A lot of games will work because the developers don't region lock the disks. But sadly in this case Telltale did region lock it. So you see I understand why they might not want to make a global release but making importing the game difficult only makes things worse for people outside of the US.

Oh, didn't read that correctly. Well if that is the case that would be a huge dick move. No idea why they would do that.

To actually put the effort in to region lock purchased digital media when other companies normally wouldn't is... Mind-boggling to say the least. Surely they expected consumers to attempt to ship it overseas.

Yeah I heard this a while ago myself but imported it as this didn't suggest anything about the CE which was exclusive to Gamestop. Also on these forums in the past week I've seen Telltale people saying that there are no plans for an International release, or at least atm.

*EDIT* Well for anybody who reads this and wants to know how to play the locked disc... Telltale have kindly put the first episode up for free download on Xbox Live. By running the downloaded first episode you are able to then play the rest of the game from the region locked disc :D
