Let's Debate #1 - Unknown Potential (Long Post)
Hello everybody. This is my first thread and hopefully the start of a successful series of threads called "Let's Debate". Instead of boring you with the formalities though, let's get into it.
The first topic up for debate revolves around those in the group we've lost through the actions of other characters, there are some characters I've probably inexcusably missed and for that I apologise, I have made sure that my information is correct, but any mistakes that do crop up on my part feel free to rectify. It'll be much appreciated.
Anyway let's take a look at the characters killed by other humans during the game. We have;
Episode 1
There were no deaths in Episode 1 caused by another character.
(I don't count Shawn as a member of the group, he would not have followed them on their travels and so I cannot use him)
Episode 2
Mark - Caused by St. Johns (Mark had already sustained an injury prior to having his legs chopped off, however it was obviously the loss of his legs at the hands of the St. Johns that killed him.)
Larry* - Caused by Kenny (Dropping a Salt Lick onto his head resulting in instant death)
*May already of died through heart attack but undetermined
Episode 3
Doug/Carley - Caused by Lily (Shot by Lily in a blind rage)
Katjaa - Caused by Suicide (A bullet through her brain, instant death)
Episode 4
There were no deaths in Episode 4 caused by another character.
Episode 5
There were no deaths in Episode 5 caused by another character.
(Kenny technically killed Ben, but given the circumstances he was going to die anyway)
Now that we have the characters to discuss, we need a topic to debate. Let's assume these characters hadn't been killed under the circumstances above. Who do we think would of made it to the final episode?
Mark
Understandably Mark is a tough character to talk about. He was only with us for a short time but we can determine that he had a survival instinct as he had survived by himself before Lee's group connected with him. If Mark hadn't off suffered his injury then another may have been unfortunate enough to take his place on the St. Johns dining table.
He seemed to have Lee's back and in return Lee looked out for Mark, surely this would have proven invaluable later on in the game. I think Mark may well have made it too the final episode given his experiences before Lee's group, and he would of been an extra head to infiltrate Crawford.
Larry
Larry is a more straight forward case, we already know his weakness is his heart and it proved a vital problem more than once. We never knew if Larry would off survived the heart attack but let's say he did, Lily would have stayed sane, Doug/Carley would of made it to the train and the RV would still be in Kenny's possession.
It would have been interesting also to see his reaction over Duck's situation, would Kenny have got as far as he did before stopping, I can't imagine Larry being the slightest bit happy that Duck was travelling with the group in his condition.
I can't really convince myself that Larry would of made it past episode 4, He probably would of died during the Crawford act, trying to escape the stress and physical demands would bare to much a burden on his heart. If he survived there however, he certainly wouldn't have shown Lee sympathy over the bite, but with Episode 5 I believe Larry would of suffered Ben's death, he could not make the jump to the next roof.
Doug/Carley
Doug and Carley in their respective arcs would have made it to the mansion, I think Doug would have probably died during the Crawford escape much like Larry, except change heart failure with vulnerability. I imagine he'd die whilst trying to help Lee with Ben, I say this because I can't imagine Carley leaving Lee to deal with Ben by himself. They were two people she cared about in one way or another and to see them both in trouble would likely
force her hand in some sense, only she just seemed to have the natural instinct to make it out alive, even after risking a lot for Lee and Ben. With Doug I can just invisage him making sure Lee and Ben are safe and abandoning awareness.
So I think Doug would die in Episode 4 but Carley would live beyond, potentially until the end, she would of thrived in Crawford and made easy work of escaping the morgue, however her concern for Lee may prove a telling factor. Would she risk too much in making Lee's safety a priority ahead of getting to Clemintine? Assuming she kept a level head I believe she'd strike a strong bond with Christa much like the bond forming between Lee and Omid.
Katjaa
Katjaa is easy enough to decipher but for debates sake I added her anyway. Clearly if the intention to kill herself was so strong, she wouldn't be much use to anybody let alone herself in the further episodes.
Of course Kenny may have had an influence in her decision and Kenny may have shown more leadership qualities what with having something to live for.
Now I've summed up my thoughts briefly, I'd like to see yours also, and please let me know if you'd like these threads to continue. I apologise for it's length but I just love discussing this game.
Thanks for reading!

Sorry,OP I didn't really know what to talk about.
Episode 4 Doug:
Episode 4 Carley:
I left Duck out because his fate was already determined before he was killed, he was to become a walker otherwise.
To answer your question, no I do not agree under any terms with the act of cannibalism, however taking into account the mentality of these people, their desperation, and set of skills regarding the usage of meat, it is perhaps more understandable if not acceptable.
He could've died on Ep. 4.
I think it's pretty fair. She happens to know how to handle a gun and take care of herself (as long as her life doesn't depend on mending battery driven devices). Doug's the average guy with an interest in technical stuff.
For it to be fair in a video game Doug could've maybe given you something really useful before he died if you saved him. Like explosive shotgun rounds. Or a pocket-sized robot with mounted miniature machine guns. Or one shot of WALKER VIRUS CURE(TM).
In other words, SOMETHING that will benefit you greatly later in the story.
Yes I considered that, but there was the option to keep him alive going into Episode 5. In the case of the rest, I wanted to see what people thought of those who didn't reach the end due to reasons excluding walker bites.
