TWD won't launch ( STEAM )

Hi, just bought TWB from steam, downloading the all package, but when i want to play, and launch it from steam, nothing happens. No reaction.

When i try to launch it directly bwith the WalkingDead101.exe, i've got a message in french ('cause i'm french) :

I've tried a lot of thing (not in order) :

- uninstall / install TWD many times (4)
- uninstall / install DirectX
- Compatibility set on windows98 and admin (same with XP and everything available)
- verifying cache many times
- reboot my computer

spec :
Athlon x2 250 3.00ghz
ATI HD5770 giga RAM
Windows seven

All the game i've bought on steam works perfectly, even "back to the future".

If you can help me, may the force be with you.

When you updated DirectX, did you try this file?

Also, please post your dxdiag info:

Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Windows 8: At the start screen, type in "dxdiag" and hit enter

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

Hi DjNDB,

Thanks for the answer, unfortunatly, that hasn't resolved my problem.

the file you give me was the file i've used to update my directx, everything is fine.

I've also test to get my steam in english, and go steam offline to launch the game but had no effect.

Okay, the error message sounds like the game is using the wrong version of d3dx9_41.dll, for a yet unknown reason.
There is a way to find out what version it uses, but it takes a bit of work.

Please download, extract and run dependency walker.
In the dependency walker menu select "file/open", and open the WalkingDead101.exe (it should be in e.g. Steam\SteamApps\common\the walking dead).
Now select "File/Save" to save the data. The file will be named WalkingDead101.dwi.
Upload the WalkingDead101.dwi to http://ge.tt/ (or any similar service).
Once the upload is complete, click on "copy link" to copy the link to the clipboard, and paste the link into a new post.

Yes, that's right. The "real checksum" doesn't mach the "link checksum".

It would be great, if you could upload the corrupt D3DX9_41.DLL, so i can look if that's just general file corruption, or something bigger, e.g. malware.
It might be something that should be looked into, because if one file is corrupt, there is a chance that more files are affected.

In order to download a new and hopefully error free version of the file, please rename the

c:\windows\system32\D3DX9_41.DLL

to something arbitrary, e.g. D3DX9_41.DLL.bak

Then start the DirectX updater.
It should now download a new version of the D3DX9_41.DLL.

If it works, you can delete the c:\windows\system32\D3DX9_41.DLL.bak.

Hi,

You did a great job, The game is working fine because of you, thanks.

I've deleted the corrupted d3dx9_41.dll, and update it.
But i had an error telling me that walkingdead101.exe has stopped to work, ran it on administrator mode, and everything is good.

If you want, i let you the corrupted file i've deleted on my ftp.

I am glad it worked.

I compared the files to a correct one. The beginning of it is fine, but starting at 0x200000 the rest is all zeros.
I have no idea how that could have happened, because it doesn't look random at all, neither the starting position, nor the content being zeros.

At least there is no obvious sign of malware or broken hardware.

TWD won't launch ( STEAM )
