What's the big deal about Carley?
What's the big deal, why is everyone so emotional about her?
I mean, I'm more sad about Doug.
Carley seemed really plain and two-dimensional, and everyone's saying she's good with a gun, which is true I suppose, but she doesn't do anything special with it. Shoots a few things like everyone else, but Lilly does a fine job shooting things to save Lee without her.
And they also say "Well, Lee fancied her so she must be awesome". It seemed like a forced romance. It didn't give you any choice, it just HAD to happen, even if you really didn't like Carley.
And to the people saying "Carley's hot" - I honestly think Molly and Lilly were better-looking. Hell, even Beatrice and Irene have a better shot in my "looks books" than Carley does.
So, please tell me why you like Carley so much? It won't change my mind, but I fail to see why anyone would like her more than Doug :P Obviously this is just my opinion and I want to hear yours!

No, people like Carley because she was a good character who got far more screen time than Doug. If Doug got as much screen time as Carley then people would be upset about Doug as well. I picked Carley on my first playthrough, and Doug on everyone of my other playthroughs. Doug said less, did less, and was overall less important to the story than Carley.
And to OP; Yeah, I agree with most of your points here, except that Carley was plain and two dimensional. She seemed that way to me in the first episode, but so did Doug. I picked her because she was slightly more interesting at the time. Both the characters get better throughout all of the game if you keep talking to them.
People also like her because for the most part, she is also a moral character.
When you first meet her, along with Glenn she rescues Lee, Clem and Kenny's family when they get surrounded by zombies outside the Pharmacy, even though Lilly and Larry were against it. She shows concern for Clementine and will refuse food when supplies are low, telling Lee to either feed Clem first or hold onto it in case Lee or Clem gets hungry later. And she is the first to give Lee a second chance on his past as a convicted felon, and keeps to her word not to tell the rest of the group. Later she sticks up for Ben, who was just a kid, when Lilly starts throwing around accusations without proof.
Her one moral failing was perhaps in not wanting to rescue the trapped girl at the motor inn. But considering the circumstances, it was at least understable. And everyone is allowed a mistake or two during the Zombie Apocalypse.
I saved Doug. It's a shame he wasn't able to help with the train.
Oh wait, I see now.... there was already an existing thread on the first page.... silly me.....
i saved carley because she is a lady. Ladies first! and plus lee said - STAY AWAY from the windows! and what did doug do... and carley
'' HI MY NAMES CARLEY. im going to run into a walker battlefield without grabbing my ammo! Im so clever ''
No. I liked Carley because she was a great female likeable character, who wasn't annoying or pointless.
Now the only likeable character left is Clementine.
Anyway, I never enjoyed Doug's character.
That's tvtropes description of her. Perhaps people like her because of that?
Alarm system, albeit quite useful, the watch can handle that. Plus, wouldn't you have to constantly go outside to fix the wire? One walker getting tangled up in it is all it takes, and that's extremely easy for a walker to do.
The laser pointer. No real complaints here, i prefer this to the gunshot, actually. Either way works.
The remote control for the TVs in episode 1. Again no complaints.
That's 3 things Doug's got going for him. He saves Lee's life once, compared to Carley who does it 3 times, among others. A gun can be used in a truckload of situations to save lives, and Doug admits that he can barely do anything because he simply doesn't have the supplies to do so. Carley also knows Lee's past and gives him a chance to tell everyone about it, whereas with Doug Lilly spills the beans and relationships are strained.
Doug was a cool guy, but we shouldn't be surprised that most people save Carley.
THIS. Although I don't think Carley is a perfect character (as she shouldn't be), Doug just isn't fun to have around at all. Carley has a strong personality and stands up to Lilly. Her skills are more useful than Doug's in the ZA. There's not much to talk to Doug about in Ep. 1...
But I don't think she's perfect. In Episode 1, if you tell Kenny your parents owned the pharmacy, you still have the same conversation with Carley in the office and if you don't lie to her, you get into a little argument over letting people know who you are, even though she later decides she wants you to tell them... I was kind of annoyed over that. The girl had no right to get into my business; I didn't get into hers.
For what it's worth she mentions this in episode 3. "3 months ago i told you not to tell anyone and now I'm saying you should." or something along those lines.
