Obsession with Clem

edited January 2013 in The Walking Dead
Is it just me or were there a lot of people trying to take Clem "off your hands" in this season? Vernon, radio man, Jolene(in her creepy video), christa even hints at it. Is it because being around children/ protecting them makes us feel like in the days before the ZA? Let me know what you think!

Well, Jolene was crazy and thought Clem was her own daughter.

I think Christa was just being responsible.

Radio Man - clearly "revenge" over losing his family.

Vernon is the only real question mark - personally I think he and his group are pedo.

Radio man was so evil after his wife left. I think Kenny could have easily became a "radioman" given the right circumstances.

I think Vernon saw Lee as no good parent for Clementine and wanted her to be safe with his group, from which he thought they could assure her surviving better.

What would happen if radio man did get Clem from Lee? Like what was his exit strategy after killing Lee? He's an idiot.

Actually I think it was because he was already planning to steal the boat from Lee's group and probably felt at least a little guilty for abandoning an 8 to 9 year old girl to die. If Lee gave Clem up to him he could have brought her along when they took the boat.

Also, Vernon said he had a daughter of his own at some point. So like Jolene and the Radio Man, maybe he was looking for someone to replace their child with.

In my playthrough, I left Ben to stay with the boat and the rest of us went to find Clem. When we got back and the boat was gone it looked like Ben had gotten a pretty bad beating.( I remember noticing a fresh bruise on his face) which makes me believe that Vernon stealing the boat was pre-meditated.(and ben must have put up some kind of struggle to get hit in the face.) Poor Ben.

    Precious, my precious.

Oh and what a coincidence, I'm watching the two towers right now LOL :o

I think the main reason is they have/had children of their own and so have a desire to protect Clementine themselves(such as Vernon/Jolene). It seems like the Stranger captured Clementine solely to get Lee and his group to find him in his own territory, then exact revenge. Also since he lost his son as well, he'd want to take care of her as a sort of redemption for losing his own.

On a side note, does anyone know what Vernon says if you choose the option "You have a point"? Everyone picks "Walk away" or "I need to think about this". I'm assuming he says "Go talk it over with Clementine" or something similar.

Everyone instinctively senses that Clementine is the most awesome little girl on the planet. How could they not want her to be their ward?

Basically, "You have a point." means "I understand what you mean.". It doesn't mean I agree with you, it means I understand your reasoning.

To be fair the only person I thought could take better care of Clem than Lee didn't offer

Where was the option 'Find Molly' when you need it

Also Vernon was a real let down I thought he was the first nice guy we met I even name a soldier after him in C-com and he ended up becoming a Colonel assault Psi powered chosen one
    (sigh)

Well Jolene's daughter was raped by the bandits and I think she wanted to keep Clementine safe, she was probably planning on kidnapping her as well.

Christa just wanted Clem to not get hurt, probably her mother instincts >.>

I understand how Vernon wanted to take Clem, I guess he saw that Lee would always tell her to stay close to him while he does all this crazy stuff. Vernon's group was well supplied with food, weapons, meds and they were able to survive that long. He was just looking out for her safety, since she is a child. Not because they are pedophiles wtf =.=

Christa was only preparing for Lee's death. Everyone else was way out of line, though.

I still thing Crazy Man/Radioman actually never had a family and was already stalking one. That he had basicly done to another group already what he planned to do to Lee's.

Actually, I think it was because since you went on an embark to get batteries, gasoline, and medicine, you risked your life and everyone elses in your group, and Vernon didn't like that. He didn't like how you constantly risk leaving her alone. If you noticed, when he was talking about taking Clem, he said "We have food, we have enough supplies to last us a while." Basically saying that they wouldn't have to go on a life risking endeavour for a long time. They're well protected, well hidden, and have supplies? That's better than someone who doesn't have all that.

    I still threatened him though.

Sending her with him is a worse idea in the long run anyway. Those supplies are going to run out eventually, and Vernon can barely handle a gun against a friendly human, let alone several walkers. He and Clementine would be guaranteed dead, if not from starvation then by the walkers or bandits while searching for food.

It does seem like he sees Lee unfit as a father figure and that he and his group would do a better job.

Yes, she pretty much would be guaranteed dead. But that's not what Vernon thinks though. He thinks since he had a daughter before, that he would be able to handle any problem him and Clemtine come into contact with, would be able to support her and so on. I believe he had the right intentions, but didn't see the bad side of things. I still think Lee is a better father figure.

While on the topic of father figures, I bet Mark would have been a perfect person to let take Clem after Lee died. Too bad he and lee are both gone. Poor Clem.

He didn't like how I decided to not leave her alone.

Okay, makes sense. But even with that thought, in his mind it would've been safer than bringing her with you to a potential death sentence.

I think maybe when he's older because he seemed like he was in his mid twenties, but he seems liked he'd be a good father later.

What would he be to Clem then? a friend? or an older brother?
