I don't do well with comic books. I don't think they're a lesser form of literature than novels, but I'd just rather read words describing what's happening than look at pictures describing what's happening. But I do watch the show. Cause that's moving pictures, so it's different n stuff.
Loved them at first, read up to around issue 100, but Kirkman's gradually been getting farther and farther away from storytelling and character development. Instead, he's just going for sheer shock value, and his characters are becoming more and more one dimensional.
Yes I read them, and the first 40 or so issues are really good. It gets a little repetitive after the Prison but thankfully Dale, Andrea and Carl have moments that shine through to keep me interested.
I actually own the first two Compendiums which are proudly displayed on my bookshelf. Now if I could just get a Lee and Clem figure to set them next to it....

Annoying, but what can you do?
I'm hoping he has more planned rather than just becoming another Garth Ennis, ugh. I don't mind shock value, but I'm starting to wonder if he's just getting tired of the series completely and simply sees it as a moneymaker now as opposed to something he can just enjoy making for himself and others.
The success of the TV series and video game might even get to his head, which I hope isn't the case either.
i think it would be good if the story went on a recovery ark, where people actually work together and make a better life for themselves, and try and work out what the civilised thing to do is when living in a world where the dead come back to kill you, and what people would do when deciding to rebuild civilisation and whether they choose to keep old ideas of countries and governments or start from scratch on some new way to organise the masses, maybe there would even be new religions and cults that people would make

Nah, this isn't TWD. Every single group of people out of Rick's group is an evil person, and the army and the government are completly destroyed, no one tries to replace them,... That's why I don' really like the comics. Volume 1 was my favorite.

Glenn, Maggie, and Carl are evil to you? Either way, it's the zombie apocalypse. Amoral decisions are just a fact of life.

I believe World War Z took this approach. I have yet to read it for myself though.
I’ve only read Volume One, and it’s pretty good. Tony Moore kicks Charlie Adlard’s ass at drawing.
Agreed with that. Charlie Adlard's looked really great until post-prison. Afterward... I feel like it's gotten super lazy lately, except for when its a close up of someone's face. Either way, Tony Moore was much more detailed and I just liked his look of the characters better. I did get a limited edition Issue 100 signed by Charlie Adlard though, which I think is incredibly neat.
I read the comics regularly. I've read all the way up through the last one released this month, Issue 105. It's slowed down a lot lately, but I think Kirkman's got a pretty great plan with the upcoming issues that will thrust it forward again.
tbh, I never heard of TWD comic's til the tv show.
so for me id rather watch the series on tv when it's all still new to me. then proably check out the comic's after
That's why I said OUT of Rick's group. And even in it, it's full of psychos.
My apologizes your grammar had me confused when you said "Every single group of people out of Rick's group is an evil person." I misunderstood what you meant.
Just finished reading Issue 105 today, next issue comes out next week
The comics do have parts that are horribly depressing, but I feel like they're making it as realistic as possible and shows that you deal more with the people who are alive than the dead.
Glenn is dead. Lilly is most likely dead. Herschel’s dead. The Governor was killed by Lilly. Lori was sniped by Lilly. Rick might not survive the next few issues, seeing as how his sanity is quickly deteriorating. Carl has become a little shit. Tyreese got his head chopped off. The comics is all fucked up.
I didn't read the comics yet, but I'm sure I will do it someday. I actually didn't hear anything about the comics until I saw the TV series and talked about it to my friend. He then told me that it is based on a comic.

Goes to thread about the comics, gets shocked when we talk about what is happening in the comics...
It's a simple poll asking if you read them or not, not necessarily a "Comic Story Discussion" thread. I do remember Telltale frowning on comic spoilers in another thread a few weeks ago, but it can probably be forgiven in this instance.

(episode 2 spoilers!)
When was the last time you read a walking dead comic? I mean Rick has his low moments like when people close to him dies but I wouldn't say he's still acting crazy. I don't think he's talked to his dead wife since his been dating Andrea or since he told Michonne that was his coping mechanism which was before the Alexandria settlement and unlike a crazy person he recognised that the audible hallucinations weren't real. It was just how he kept him self from loosing it like the Tom Hanks's character in Cast away. Rick definitely has his shit together lately. He runs a community larger than woodbury and he's working on a plan to deal with the current threat.
Personally I found the game far more depressing than the comics. In the game they never really got a break after the story picked up 3 months later in ep2. Every day we spent with characters in the game from then, someone in the group died. I mean Ep1-5 takes place over around 13 weeks, give or take and 12 of those weeks are when we are not in control of the game or seeing what the characters are doing. In the comics they have ups and downs, tragedies and victories. Rick finding his family was a victory as was his son's recoveries when he had near death experiences. They had times of peace and celebration like when Glen married Maggie, they even went trick or treating after finding safety in the Alexandria settlement. The happiest moment in the game for Lee's group was when they invited to dinner by the saint Johns after weeks of starving and nearly tricked into eating their friend.
I find the comics horribly depressing compared to the game......
Seriously? I mean, in the comics they have ups and downs, tragedies and victories. Rick finding his family was as much a long shot as Clem finding hers alive and yet he was lucky when she was not,Rick's son recovered from near death experiences over the comic series, again Rick was lucky. After moments of despair, in the comics, they get breaks and find temporary shelter and safety like the farm, the prison, the church,Alexandria, hilltop colony. They had times of peace and celebration like when Glen married Maggie, they even went trick or treating and attended dinner parties in the Alexandria settlement(their current residence). The happiest moment in the game for Lee's group was when they were invited to dinner by the saint Johns after weeks of starving and nearly tricked into eating their friend. It all pretty much went down hill from then. people were dying so quick in the game that I didn't have enough time to get to know them or care about them i.e Chuck and the zombie kid in the attic, depressing because of the constant theme of death and the way those events effected the characters in the group. I found some of the issues sad in the comics like Lori's death, etc but I wouldn't say all the comics are depressing. Some issues are exciting, action packed, funny and show the group getting justice where as the games 5 episodes make up one depressing story.

Ha, you haven't read the comics yet...
