If you had an option to fix the game, what would you do?

edited January 2013 in The Walking Dead
Lets ignore the decisions don't matter standpoint. That's to big.

But characters or narrative.

For example, if i was the director of the game I would have Katja throw herself off the train rather than commit sucicide right next to duck.

I would have liked time for that to bake in the oven, metaphorically speaking rather than it to just happen right then and there.

I would've also kept the reporter alive longer and would have tried to create maybe a romance of some sort. I think having Lee maybe not fall in love with someone, but find someone to sleep with at night would've made the game a bit more deeper in that regard.

What would you guys fix or enhance?

Be able to tell the group about you being a murderer if you saved Doug and not Carley.
Or giving Chuck a longer life, even though I can understand the death.
Or letting everyone ride off on a magical pony into the sunset and they all live happily ever after. :D

Keep Carley alive, or if someone had to die, it would be Ben.
  • edited January 2013
Give Ben his chance to make things right - even if in a small way (but definitelymore than just picking up Lee's gun.).
  • edited January 2013
Not going to say anything about Carley since everyone else is already on the ball with that.

I'd change it so that if you allow Lilly to come with you after she kills whoever, she doesn't have to steal the RV and can stay with your group a while longer. :) It'd be entertaining, no?

    Clementine in grade 3...

Or just let us do something with that gun. It just sorta disappears. I know if you left any bullets in it you can give them to Kenny during his last scene with Ben, but other than that it's completely forgotten.

The Walking Dead wiki says that's actually Carley's gun Lee is using in the later episodes. If that's the case I wish we could have given it to Clementine in the finale. Instead of her trying to get a gun off the cop zombie she could be just trying to get bullets for it.

If that happened I'd actually considered Ben redeemed. He saved the last thing we had to remember Carley by and it ends up in Clem's possession. Then part of Carley would be protecting Clementine from beyond the grave.

I guess that's something I'd change if I could. (And if that's not actually Carley's gun in the later episodes I'd change that too.)

Yeah, I was totally wondering what happened to the gun Lee had, which I assumed was Carley's because it looked alike. Ben recovering the pistol before retreating to the attic was the closest he came to finding some sort of redemption, for the reasons you stated. Still not good enough though, and I mainly kept him alive till episode five hoping he would redeem himself. Instead, IMO, he caused Kenny to sacrifice himself. LOL, I guess Ben just had to finish the job of wiping out Kenny's family and most of the group. So yeah, if I had to "fix" anything I would give Ben a chance to finally redeem himself but I am not against the current story.

The main thing I would change is to keep Carley alive. There was so much potential to character development with her, and she could have been a useful balance against the increasingly brutal group dynamics after episode 3.

    I'd fix the bugs.....

Choices have more impact on future events. Almost every death determinant. Decide on going to a different location now, later or never and either go alone or choose who to bring.

Remove the two shooting scenes in episode 4, or only allow a limited number of shots(or make it similar to the episode 5 shootout). Also add in some way to prevent the player from shooting that one walker near Clementine without making it seem invincible.

End of episode 3. Explosion when you kick the blowtorch down to the diesel.
  • edited January 2013
Make Lee survive / delete scene with his bite.
  • edited January 2013
I'd change a few things to help keep the illusion of choice a bit more.

A few ex. If you don't give Irene the gun, instead of her attacking and getting the gun you leave her screaming for mercy.
If you choose to save Shawn you can "save" him but he still gets bit. We leave the farm thinking he is all right, but in the next scene with Larry learn that the bite is lethal.
Have Carley and Doug die at separate points. Having them die at the same place the same way reinforced the notion that it didn't matter you who saved they would play the exact same role.
Saving Omid or Christa on the train I would take out the choice, Its pointless and no matter who you save they say the same thing. I would just have Christa jump up on her own and pull up Omid because he has a hurt leg.
Those are a few things there are more in the game that I would change slightly.

I would also add in finding something eat in the latter episodes. The first two episodes dealt with food but nothing in the last 3 when we had no supplies.

I think when duck dies katjaa doesnt kill herself but maybe in episode 3/4 katjaa asks kenny to commit suicide with her.

I think christa + 1 should have been alive and met clem....

Campman should've made a better appearance... he died in what, after a second?
Campman should've been like the governer....
Campman should've made clem get bit or something...
    Campman should've had a crew
Campman should've had a better evil voice...

We should've had a bitten person join the group and they turn and kill ( ???? )

Change the part of the train thing, i mean, there's no power and such, and I'm sure there wasnt enough coal and such.

Also change the Carley scene when she gets shot. Let it hit someone else/not kill her, like injure her or hit in the shoulder/ someone to get hit like Ben or lee.

there is a thread i think with an alternative take on the carley scene. i wish some patchers/guys could modify that and maybe incorporate em.

i would have killed ben instead of carley. it hurts when i see the cutscene again

Remake ep 5 to make it different depending on your choices.
  • edited January 2013
I would have liked the food thing to matter more. Maybe the characters you didnt feed have a 50/50 percent of getting injured? Just an idea.

Also i would LOVE a chance to shoot Lilly. I mean she killed an innocent women and could murder again! We should have been able just to put her out of her misery and not risk any more deaths :P

Have Lee MENTION Chuck's death to everyone else.
ACTUALLY confront Lilly about her killing Doug/Carley.
Telling Clem about what happened to the others.
Having Molly find the group in Ep5.
  • edited January 2013
Let Chuck die at Crawford instead of the beginning of Ep 4.

Give Larry more lines before his death.

Observe how the rest of the group reacts to Chuck's death (Seriously, its like they didn't even care :(

I would give us multiple endings from the worst possible to the best possible endings. Have the choices you make matter and you should be able to save everybody but would have to give up one for the other. So if you wanted Carly to live you would have to make certain sacrifices or for anyone of that matter. But overall make our choices really affect the outcome of the game.

    Sounds good.

Also if someone's going it die no matter what you do! Why the hell do they have to remember what you did for them! Like when you stick up for carly against Lilly. It's says a couple times Carly will remember that. Like it really matters seconds later when her face hits the ground! Lol

I'd also add in a scene after Duck is shot/left about what happened. Maybe it wouldn't fit with the game, but i wanted to see everyone's reaction to being informed that Katjaa killed herself, if they even were.

Wow, i totally agree with telling Clem the fate of the others(and your other points except Molly). Even if it was just a few lines, it would have been nice. Maybe that would have been even more sad, not only would Lee die in her presence, but she also had the knowledge that everyone else she knew has died or gone missing. Damn.

I wouldn't have killed off Lee. I think he was an awesome protagonist and would have loved to see him in season 2. But... still, it was a bold move and it made for a really emotional ending.
Maybe throw in a few tie-ins to the TV series. Nothing too big, but just like inside jokes for people who watch the series.
I'd completely remove any religious nonsense, like Lee having the choice to say God bless you, but this is just a personal quest. It wouldn't make the game better or worse.

Yeah, Good point, season 2 Won't be the same without him. He was perfect character, with good story, and... Clem... Cutting arm should be enough to stop infection, i really fell bad with his death (could be good story, with him searching for Clem, or without Clem, making us trying just to survive)... So, anyway decisively i would change the ending...

So i'll make a post about my suggestions...

    1. Have the reporter live longer and create a potential romance with her.
    2. More character bonding. Maybe a campfire scene where everyone is just sharing details about there past and whatnot.
    3. Keep Chuck alive till Episode 5 IMO.
    4. Create a similar scene where Lee buries Duck and Katja (similar to the boy in the attic scene) and everyone part of the group puts a stone or a flower by there grave site to show there respect.
    5. Have Molly stay with the group after Episode 4 and maybe develop more and deeper into her character
    6. Have Kenny show more emotion into the death of his wife and son. I mean like a total breakdown where he's just in a room and breaking shit, just completely shedding his emotions so to speak. I feel that Kenny just at times never really gave a shit about losing his son and wife. He just wanted to keep going which felt selfish a bit.
    7. If you keep Ben alive till Episode 5 change that death scene. Have perhaps Ben die by falling onto that metallic stick. Ben tells the group to leave him. While Kenny head shots him to end his pain.
    8. Have Kenny join Lee to find Clementine at the Hotel.
    9. When Lee, and Clementine (and in this case Kenny to) leave the hotel and are walking among that walker swarm covered in the walkers blood and guts..when Lee passes out, have Kenny protect Clem by having all the walkers focus on Kenny by firing a gun shot from a distance and having the walker swarm attack Kenny, drawing away the walkers from Clem who is dragging Lee to safety. A much more honorable sacrifice in my opinion
    10. Make the Lee death scene longer. Have Clementine actually lay down with Lee, crying on his shoulder begging for him not to become one of the walkers.
    11. Give a option where Clementine say's "I love you Lee". And of course a response that allows for a "I love you to Clementine"
    12. Change into a first person perspective to Lee, showing Clem with a Gun (if you choose that route) about to shoot you.
    13. Have Clementine be very apprehensive of shooting you. She doesn't want to do it at all. But then Lee becomes pissed. Alot of emotion is poured by lee, he's screaming at Clementine DO IT, DOOOO IT. Clementine truly doesn't want to kill Lee and you witness that.
    13. Do a "life is flashing before your eyes" scene with Lee. Maybe do a nice little montage with some emotional violin/piano music playing of some memorable touching scenes with Lee and Clem as Lee is down to his final few breaths.
    14. Have the player take control of Clementine. Freshen up the gameplay by doing this and also extends, what was a seriously short episode, into something more and longer.
    15. The player controls Clementine and she journeys to find Christa and Omid at the train station.
    16. End it with Clem finding Christa and Omid and them journeying off for a safe haven. No silly cliff hanger. Just a nice bow on the whole narrative.

It's funny, there's seriously alot of things I would change, even though I loved the game a ton.

Make who goes with you at the end of episode 4 actually matter.
  • edited January 2013
I would have left Lilly behind in the motor in. I would have kept Carley alive, just to see where their romance would blossom. Imagine Lee and Carley getting married and adopting Clem, that would be interesting. I would give Ben some more support, he is just a kid, and didn't really have anyone there for him.

Agree with every single one of them, took the words right out of my mouth!Especially 2, 7, 9, 13, and 16 all the emotional things.
