Last we see of Hershel, he's crouched over his dead son's body.

    I guess you haven't read the comic or watched the TV series? In short, he joins Rick's group.

    But the game universe may be different, no?

    *COMIC SPOILERS*

    Hershel gets his head blown off by the Govenor, nce the Woodbury army breaches the prison.

    Well in the game's description it states
    Experience events, meet people and visit locations that foreshadow the story of Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes

    Thus, Hershel ends up with Rick and his group and everything else continues the same as in the comics.
