In what year does the game take place?

The first issue of the comic was released in 2003, but I am reading The Rise of the Governor right now and they mention stuff like Facebook or Twitter. What do you ladies think?

    I noticed a "premium LCD" box in the train in ep3, so I think it's 2007 or later

    Eh, this was tough. Kirkman says the comic takes place during the year it was written (2003). Which leads me to believe the game takes place during that year.

    I'd say it took place in 2003 (same as the comics) based on Clementine's old-ass CRT television:P

    I'd also add Jolene's pocket sized video camera as another anachronism. Most handheld cameras in 2003 still used regular tapes and even if there were tiny memory card cameras they certainly wouldn't be a "cheapie" in 2003.

    Unless you're talking about the TV Show - which is it's own universe.

    Edit - wait, you're talking about the book? Hell if I know - I'd always read/heard it started when the comic started.

    Yeah the TVs being sold across from the drug store would suggest the early 2000s.

    Rise of the Governor takes place in 2011, I believe. The year was never mentioned in the comics. I think Kirkman had intended for TWD to take place when it was written, but changed it to be current with the Rise of the Governor novel. Kirkman said the novels, comics and video game are all canon, so that would suggest the game takes place in 2011.

    Personally, I think Kirkman "changes" things on a whim whenever it sounds good.

    Amusing side note:

    I read the CDC's zombie apocalypse survival guide for fun awhile back, and it includes things on the emergency preparedness list like cell phone and charger but no guns and ammo.

    I'm pretty sure the CDC's ZA guide is actually just their regular emergency guide and they just renamed it a Zombie Apocalypse to get more people to read it. :D

    Well, you can only guess from the TV's, the cars, the furniture, the way the stores look etc. From what I've seen anywhere from 1995-2005.
    I believe around 2006 you couldn't find those type of TVs being sold anymore.

    From what I heard, Kirkman said it takes place in the early 21st century, so that could be anytime from 2000 to present day.

    The first issue of the comic was released in 2003 so what? The events of the comic could be in 2017 for example

    Even if you found a way to charge your phone, who would you even call? They're useless once all of the police stations and hospitals are empty, and all your friends and family are either dead (or their phones are).
