I always pull him up. It just doesn't seem right to let him die when it's completely avoidable. Ultimately, it just depends on whether you want him to stick around a bit longer or not. :P
I dropped him only once in the multiple times I played the game. It wasn't out of hate, but just to see how the other characters react. It sickened me. Kenny was actually happy to see a kid die, and everyone else thought I was an evil bastard. The worst part was Clem. I tried to justify it, and all she said was "Oh, okay", like she does with every other tough choice I made. I just couldn't tell if she really understood.
After that, I always pull him up. There's no penalty for it. This is one of those choices where I think Telltale just didn't have much riding on it. They really should have had something bad happen if you save him. Like a tough escape event where the walkers catch up with you and you have to clear a path out to the roof. Drop Ben, and you get out easily. Something like that.
It just feels wrong to drop him. The entire time we knew him, no one believed in him. I could tell he was trying his damndest, but he just wasn't getting results. If I could forgive Duck's incompetence causing him to run over Shawn's leg and get him killed, and I can forgive Clem for not listening to Lee, running off with a stranger and getting Lee bitten, I can forgive Ben. The only mark against him in my book is when he abandoned Clem to save himself. Everything else was well-meaning. He's still a kid, after all. Screw ups are to be expected. Yeah, he made some big mistakes, but he always tried to do the right thing. I'd rather have that than someone like Larry who berates everyone around him.

Clem seemed to understand for me. I told her Ben wanted to be left behind the help the others escape and she said something about her mother saying that was the mark of a good person. I could respect that actually, because on at least two occasions before that he put himself before others (not intentionally, but through cowardice) and he chose to make sure he couldn't do it again.
He is young, so you can forgive him for being nervy and unsure of himself, but in the zombie apocalypse you need to grow up fast and even still he really should have known better. By about 16 years old and being 4 months into events you should really be savvy enough to realize the hatchet is in the door for a reason. Duck and Clem are about half his age.
Telltale put that decision in, because having widely blamed for episode 3's deaths and being pretty hated at time that was there way of saying "do you really hate him that much"
He was a better person than Larry though and Lilly as well since what he did was never fully on purpose (i don't think he consciously meant to leave Clem for example, it just happened) , 100% with you on that.

Oh yeah, you're right. I do remember Clem saying something like that. I must have confused it with something else, the St Johns or something.
Yes, he's older than Duck and Clem, but he's also at a very awkward time in life. His mind is still developing and is on the verge of becoming an adult. New mental abilities are still in the works. Compounding that with being in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and he's going to be very flustered, which is what we got with him. Yes, the situation requires quick maturation, but his point in life doesn't work well with that, unlike Clem and Duck. They are at an age where they are very susceptible to new ideas and can adapt quickly, whereas Ben is at the age where he's trying to solidify himself, yet being forced to change. The world is just giving him mixed messages.
So that's where I'm coming from on Ben. If he were given a few more years, he would be just fine. As is, he's just a tragic character I wish I could support.

In my first canon playthrough, I pulled him up and I was satisfied with my decision.
In my pro-Kenny playthrough, I dropped him and I agree with you. I felt disgusted just looking at Kenny as he was happy with my choice, and he was telling everyone about it.

I pulled Ben up. I couldn't bear to drop him like that...
Kenny was really one of the worst in the game, right after Larry. I'm really annoyed at him a lot of times. And frankly speaking, it just made me feel worse as the game progresses because whatever Lilly said or did (except for the Carley kill) was proven right time and again yet she was the one who was hated and forced to leave the group.

Yeah, while I was playing my pro-Kenny playthrough, I couldn't help but cringe because he keeps on wanting me to back him up with all of his bad choices, and it seems like it doesn't bother him. In my canon playthrough, I'm glad I tried saving Larry, I just wished he didn't act so soon.

Larry was gasping for a breath a second before the saltlick was dropped on him. I wasn't sure if he was coming back to life as a human or zombie... there was always this ambiguity. But hell... if he was coming back as a human...
The worst thing about Kenny wasn't how he treated Lee like sh*t if you didn't back up him... it's the way he would leave Lee for dead or even purposefully let the Walkers get Lee. The way he let Lee deal with the Walkers alone in the drugstore for example? And then the time when he whined about having to help Lee find Clementine?
The one about Clementine got to me the most because it's not about Lee - it's about Clementine. And Kenny was willing to let Clementine rot in hell just because he's got something against Lee. And she's only just a kid.
And yes, in chapter 1 it was almost as if he purposely let Shawn die, too. Grah.

Kenny's my bro, but he keeps count of how many times you help him, and he would only help to give back the favor. The one with helping Clementine was unacceptable though, he could atleast help me to find her without him complaining =.=
I thought it was a Carley or Doug choice, and that he'd die even if I pulled him up (and I was right, aparently). I also didn't want to risk anyone else getting killed if Lee took too long to save him, so I dropped him. I stopped hating him as soon as he said "There's no time, you have to go..."
I always pull him up. It just doesn't seem right to leave someone to die if there is a chance to save them. If Ben has to die at some later time, then so be it. But at least I can say that when I had a chance to save him, that I didn't leave him to die unnecessarily.

...oops lol...
If you want to pull him up, pull him up.
If you want to drop him, drop him.
I pulled him up, don't know why.
Probably because he was only a kid and all.
I slightly regret since I'm not a very forgiving person, but ah well.
