The Walking Dead: One Day At A Time.

Chapter 1 - To be safe.

" Thank you everyone for coming.." My Dad; smart, loving, strong-willed. Parinoid, un-easy, and shaken up from all these stories from the news. Stories of a sickness turning people into crazy cannibals. There haven't been any reports locally yet.

" So, I just wanted to go over the plan just in case something were to happen." Here we go, we all thought, My Dad always talked of having these meetings, but this is for the first time one has actually taken place. " I know you all think I'm crazy but, I want us to be prepared for the worse. " So you really think zombies are going to come and eat us?" My younger cousin Howard jokingly asks. " I think that I'd like for us to be ready for that, yes." My Dad was stone-cold serious. " O.k., dont forget to pack a bag of clothes and grab some cases of water on your way home at whatever gas station you pass. Don't forget who your supposed to call on the phone tree, and to leave immediatley after you make your call to come here. Everything will be ready when you get here as far as sleeping arragments, gas for the generators and etc.. Thanks for coming everyone I'll be in touch."

There were going to be 17 of us staying here. So as you can tell my parent's house is rather large, and its in the middle of nowhere. The perfect place to bunker down and wait out whatever sickness is plauging mankind now. As everyone was piling up into thier cars to leave, my fiance Maria and I were stopped by older brother Adam. " Carson let's smoke a cig' before ya'll leave." Adam and my older sister Lindsay are twins. Adam was in the Army for eight years and has been out for a little over two. " Sure man, what's on your mind?" I asked. "Not much, just needed to tell someone other than Dad this info. I got, and I know I can trust you." "Whoa, why not Dad?" "He really doesn't need any more stress right now. I called one of my buddies who is still stationed at the coast, and he told me that they are bringing troops back from over seas to try and stop whatever is going on. Whatever it is, is serious and the government is loosing." "Damn bro." I was stunned. " I know man, I know its alot to take in, but we should take this serious, I want you to be safe lil' bro, you too Maria" He said with a smile.

On the way home we hit a traffic jam just two minutes from our driveway. After waiting almost 45 min. we made to the driveway, where we parked my truck and got out to investegate. We approached the nearest cop who was barely directing traffic. "What happend sir? That red car is demolished." It was a nasty scene. But with this fog and these wet roads, im not surprised. " Yeah, we thought that guy in the red car was gone. We zip whats left of him up in the black bag, then it starts moving. We open it up and sure enough the guy's somehow alive. without both legs and an arm. If that's not bad enough, the guy ends up biting two of the medics before they could get him restrained." "Was it that sickness?" I nervousley asked. " I dont know, but whatever it was, was fucked up." "Well have a good evening officer. Come on babe lets get in to the animals and go to bed." I knew I wouldn't sleep well after such a strange day, hell a strange week. Better pack those clothes, just to be safe.

Chapter 2 - Z- day.

You should format your text. It's pretty much unreadable the way it is.

    Chapter 2 - Z- day.
My eyes open to the sound of our dog barking. She never barks unless someones coming down our driveway. Then the ambulance sirens kick in, along with panic.

We jump out of bed and begin getting clothes on. "What the hell is going on?" I ask to myself out loud. As we rush out the front door we see the Paramedics rushing into our neighbors house. The two cop cars come flying down our driveway. The first Officer runs into their house, the second yells to us, "Get inside. its not safe anymore!".

We knew exactly what he meant. The plague had reached us, and we had a plan. We ran inside too grab our back pack of clothes, our pets, and other random items when I see that I have 6 missed calls all from my Dad. "Damnit my Dad tried calling earlier, but my phone isn't working now. We need to go, now."

POW! POW!.. Two gun shots, and the sound of cars peeling out of the driveway. " Stay behind me." We run to my car and see that both the cops and paramedics had left. Then we see her, our neighbor Sarah. I had seen images of the infected ones on T.V. but never in person. The way she moved, the way she starred at me, the smell.

The fear and anxiety hit me like a train. I fumble around with my keys before finally starting my truck and speeding down our driveway and onto the highway.

"Did the cops just shoot our neighbors and leave? Was Sarah...infected?" Maria was very scared and so was I. " I don't know babe, but we need to get to my house a.s.a.p."

"Can we please drop of the animals and go see if my Mom, Ted, and the boys are okay? Maybe they can come back to the house with us?"

" I don't think my Dad will want us to leave once we get the house, but he will have to deal with." God I love to see her smile.

We made to the house without any close calls. It was 11:30 in the morning and the traffic going toward Charlotte was outrageous. The only sounds coming out of the radio were muffled words saying " Get to the nearest large city, you will be safe there, do not interact with the infected, this is not a test.."

My Mom was outside, it looked like she was waiting for family to arrive. "Thank the lord y'all are safe." She hugged us both with a smile but the it went away. "You Dad is on the way to Shelby to pick up your brother. Im worried sick. The reports on the radios and T.V. were horrible last night and this morning. Its everywhere. The phones aren't working. I haven't stopped praying for hours."

" Listen Mom, your not going to like this but we're going back into town, we've got to see if Maria's family is ok. Were going straight there and straight back, hopefully with them."

"Carson please, its not safe. Don't go."

"We have to Mom, we'll be back before you know it."
We were back on the road. This time we had to pull over several times for caravans of cops and fire trucks. All headed toward Charlotte. I never realized how many people lived here, I knew we were the fastest growing county in the nation, but shit.

"Look out!" A sick guy in the middle of the road. I barely missed him.

" Sorry babe, I need to pay better attention to the road and stop 'rubber necking'."

"Its okay I understand, there's so many people roaming around outside, I've never seen anything like it."

"I don't think those are people any more Maria, I think there Zombies."

"ZOMBIES?! Are you serious Carson, zombies?"

"Yes, I mean look at them, and the smell, it smells like a dead skunk being burned."

"I know I just never thought this could ever happen."

"Me neither, we need to stay alert and watch each others backs, but don't worry I wont let anything happen to you I promise."

She hugs me and kisses my cheek as we pull in to her Moms driveway, the thirty minute drive had turned into an hour. We see her moms SUV parked out front with the engine running, and Josh and Trent, her little brothers, sitting inside. Crying.

"Whats wrong boys?" Maria asked "Wheres Mom and Ted?"

    "Inside fighting Mike!" Josh screamed
I see a silhouette of a man standing at the glass door inside the house. Before my eyes can focus in on him, he burst through the already open door and begins walking towards us.

The way he was walking and the smell in the air only means one thing to me at this point. Zombie.

"Maria throw me the pipe wrench underneath the passenger seat of the truck, quick! I yelled.

She tosses it to the ground across the yard and it lands at my feet, I pick it up and turn around, it was their neighbor Mike. He was close.
"Mike back up, if you can hear me in there stay back!"

I being backing up then plant my feet, SMACK!

A good smack across the face and his jaw was dangling like a puppet on strings. But he didn't stop.

A front kick to the stomach got him bent forward and a downward swing with the wrench to the back of his head got him to the ground. Face down to the ground I could hear him growling, he wasn't done yet.

Three hard ass hits in the same spot to the back of head shut him up though. That was harder than I thought it would be. Sure he was bigger than me, but that's not saying much. Older guys used to say I was "a buck thirty soaking wet."

I turn around and see Maria in the car hugging the boys. I wonder where Nancy and Ted are I thought to myself. I was covered with Mike's blood, but didn't care, I just felt relief that he had stopped moving.

"Is he dead!? Where's my Mommy and Daddy!?" Trent, the younger of the two asked.

"I don't know, you two stay in the car and lock the doors again, we're going to check on them inside. Don't worry okay Carson will protect us." Maria looked at me with a look of uncertainty. We both didn't want to go inside that house, not after dealing with Mike...

    Chapter 3. Truly Terrified...

We walk through the already opened front door. I go straight down the hall toward the kitchen, Maria heads right to the bedroom. THUD! "Are you okay?" I yelled as I ran to the bedroom.

"I'm fine, I slipped and fell. She's dead Carson.." Tears began to run down her face. Her Mom's lifeless body laid on the bed. Blood everywhere. Maria had slipped in a pool of it.

"I'm so sorry babe. I..'DOMP!' A loud crash is heard coming from what sounded like the garage. "Come on it could be Ted."

"But Carson what if he's..Like Mike was."

"Lets not think that way. He could need our help."

We head down the hallway to the kitchen, I approach the door to the garage but its too dark to see inside. I flip the switch and there he is. Standing eye to eye with me, the only thing between us is a thin piece of glass. His stare went right through me.

    "Let's go."

We sprint down the hallway and through the doorway, no time for goodbyes, not today. Maria was handling all of this better than I would. Must be for the boys. We got them out of the SUV and into my truck. The ride was silent for about ten minutes, until their curiosity took over.

"Are Mom and Dad monsters, like Mike? The younger of the two Trent asked.
"Mike attacked them, and he passed his sickness on to Mom and Ted. They are dead boys. Don't give me that look Carson they need to know the truth. I will look after you, WE will make sure nothing bad happens to you two, I promise."

How could she say that? I wasn't even sure if we would make it back to the house. But we did. I could that see everyone but my Dad and Connor were here already.

"Thank God ya'll are back, and safe!"

"Mom," I pull her to the side "Maria's Mom and step-dad are dead."

She didn't say a word, she just walked over to where the we're huddled by the truck and hugged them. They all begin to cry, and I can finally shed a tear.

"Carson!" My older cousin Matt comes down the walkway happy to see me.
"You're covered in blood, are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm okay, Maria not so much. Her Mom and step-dad, they're gone. Matt it was crazy, have you seen one yet?"

"Yes, in the show room at the shop. We thought he was drunk or messed up on something. He started knocking over bikes and before we could get to him he jumped on one of the customers and took a fat chunk out his chest. That's when we knew he was one of them, a walker."

"Walker? Is that what you been calling them?"

"Yeah it makes since when you think about it, and its better than freakin' zombies."

By this time we had all migrated into the living room of the house. Almost twenty close family members in the same room and not one is being spoken. This is a first. Time to break this silence.

"We should pair up, grab some guns and spread out around the property to keep a lookout until Dad and Connor have made it back."

"Carson's right, some of us have more intense run-ins with these, things, walkers, zombies or whatever you want to call them."

"So what do you suggest Adam?"

"Uncle Darren and Howard take watch out by the barn, but before you start bring one of the gas cans and the generator to the back porch. I don't know if anyone else noticed but the power went out about 10 minutes ago. So we need to get that thing running so Mom can cook whatever meats in the freezer."

"Okay, yeah we can definitely do that. I'm going to get some of my guns out of the truck."

"OK, I'll go with Aldon to the driveway and keep watch. Lindsay you help Mom with cataloging the food and survival gear. I'll do an inventory on weapons and ammo later tonight. We still have about an hour of sunlight left. Carson and Matt you two take the back yard, stay away from the treeline though."

"Will do, Maria can you have Christy help you cover all the window with spare blankets and sheets?"

"Sure thing babe." She leans in and kisses me. "What should I do with my little brothers for the mean time?"

"I have some old W.C.W. action figures upstairs they can play with if they're up for it."

    "Okay, love you."

    "Love."

Everyone had parted ways, doing what my older brother and I had asked of them.

"Your father would be proud of you right now Carson."

"Thanks, hey Mom, have you seen or talked to any of the close by neighbors since all this started?"

    "No why? Do you think..?"

"I wouldn't be surprised after all I've seen today. I saw hundreds just roaming around out there today. It's really, really bad."

"I know son all we can do is pray, and hopefully your father will get here with you brother soon."

    "Speak of the devil."

The headlights on his truck and the sound it made confirmed it. They were home, finally. I can only imagine what they've seen today. They both hop out of the truck and hugs are given out to everyone.
"So, someone fill us in on what's happened today..."

    Chapter 4 - Role Call...

    Chapter 4 - Role Call...

Its been a week since "Z day", today the world as we know it went to hell. A few of my family members say its all part of God's plan. A couple have given up on religion. Some thing the government will be sending troops in very soon. That's been the main topic of most of these meetings.
I love my family, but some of them are about to get a reality check.
"Alright, this meeting has officially started, Carson asked if he could address everyone today. Floor is yours son"

"Thanks dad now I have been thinking about this a lot, and i have a plan to fix some problems that may arise in the near future. I think that myself, Adam, Connor, Aldon, Matt, and Howard should make a run to the city."

    "What!?"

    "You're kidding!"

"Which city? If it Monroe then I'm fine with it, but I don't want all three of my sons going into Charlotte."

"Linda, let him finish, all of you."

"Thanks dad. I know this sounds crazy, but I think it has to be done. We can get medicine, food, tools, and weapons all in an one mile radius."

"Where exactly do you plan on going?" My dad asks.

"To the 'shop'. (By the shop I mean the electrical company my dad owns. It's where I've worked the past two years and i have keys to everything.) I know what you are all thinking. It's too close to center city. I think it will be worth the risk, there is a discount food warehouse right next door, a CVS and Walgreen's down the road and plenty of gun depots in the area."

"I think we could go for this if you cut out the gun depot stop. We have plenty of guns and ammo for now and there are plenty of places to get more around here."

"Well my dad gave his opinion, what of the rest of you?"

After a good, clam discussion we got the green flag to go. I'm glad we are all on the same page.

"Alright, we will leave first thing in the morning."

The next morning we were ready to go. Just needs to say goodbye to Maria and the boys.

"Carson, please... please come back to me. I love you."

"I know Maria I will think of you the whole time I'm gone."

"Be safe and hurry back. I love you."

    "I love you too."

We kissed like it may be our last, I hate this feeling. We were taking two GMC 2500 long bed trucks. Three of us in each. Matt, Howard and Aldon in one. Myself, Connor and Adam in the other. It's over and hour and a half drive over there not counting time spent dealing with road blocks and pushing cars. It took a little over two hours to get there, we split up. My brothers and I to the shop. The other three go to the pharmacy, we plan to meet at the food warehouse in a half an hour...

"Are you keeping an eye our Connor" Adam asks as he slides a gate open for me to pull the truck inside the fenced-offed parking lot.

"Yea I see two of them about 100 yards away."

    "Leave 'em, let's go."

We get inside the warehouse/tool shed.

"Let's grab a few battery drills, porta-band saws. Make sure to grab extra blades. I'll start grabbing the 'rolls' of fence. Connor you get as much rope and wire you can."

We had about 300 feet of fence rolled up that was extra after we expanded the parking lot.

    "Holy shit that was heavy"

I might need help with this next one.

    "Hey Adam gimme a.. --"

I smell that horrible stench, then I can hear the moans.I look up and there is at least a dozen walkers five feet away separated by a chained linked fence.

"Whats up Carson?" Adam says as he rounds the corner and sees that our cover has been blown. "We need to go! Connor get in the truck!"

We rush into the truck and get ready to go but when Adam gets ready to open the gate, we noticed that there are even more of them on this side of the lot.

"What do we do?" I yell to Adam

"There's only one way out, I say we take 'em out!"

"Dude, no way we aren't trained like you, there are too many." I pleaded to Adam "I have a plan don't do this!"

"Get your guns out little brothers."

    "Damn it!"

We jump out of the truck as he opens the gate, but just enough for one to get through at a time.

    "Head shots guys!"

We unload on them. All three clips in our pistols run out. We re-loaded and shot the last two that made it through. That was easier than I thought it would be.

"Now wasn't that easier then you thought id be?" Adam said with a smile as he pushed the gate open. CHOMP!

    "AAAGGH!!"

    "No, Adam!"

A walker, out of no where right on his right shoulder. BANG! Right in it's forehead. My gun was drawn, but it wasn't my bullet.Connor looked like he was on another planet, like he was about to faint.

    "Connor are you..?"

He hit the ground. Too much stress too fast.

"Adam, put my shirt on your wound, I'll grab a first aid kit from the truck after I get Connor up.

    "I'm okay, I'm up."

"Thank God, help me get Adam into the truck."

"We should go meet Howard and them and get out of here now!" Connor said as we drove off the lot.

"I agree, we can make a food run tomorrow or something."

"What!? You want to come back here after whats happened!?"

"No, I mean somewhere close to the house, calm down."

"I'm sorry. Adams passed out, it doesn't look good Carson."

"I know. This is the worst thing that could happen. And it did."

"After what you said about Maria's parents... How long does he have?"

"I don't know, I don't even know if that's how it works, I know as much as you do about them."

We turn the comer to South BLVD. where the pharmacies are and...BEEP BEEEPP!! We're almost nailed by Matt and the others.

    "Shit!!"

"That was stupid, whats he doing on our side of the road?" Connor asks.

We pull our trucks beside one another and roll down the windows.

    "What's up?" Matt asks.

"Adam was bitten, we need to get him back to the house now!"

    "Okay, we'll follow you."

We sped back to the house as fast as possible. I could see hundreds off zombie in the rear view mirror on the way out of Charlotte. We will no be going back there any time soon. Uncle Darren and my Dad were keeping watch on both sides of the roof. They saw us coming from a half a mile, and by the time we pulled in half of the family had made it outside.

"How did it go?" My little sister Christy asked with a smile.

They couldn't see Adam laying down in the back seat.

"Adam was bitten.." I quietly said.

My mom burst into tears along with both my sisters. Maria and the boys hugged me while my Dad, Uncle Darren ,and the rest attend to Adam who is asleep still. After telling both of our stories we find out that Howard, Matt, and Aldon had a near death encounter with the walkers as well.

"This was a a stupid idea, we should have never let them go. The government will figure all this out in a months time, and he we are sending our kids to the wolves." My Aunt Cara was pissed off beyond belief. Her anger was direct toward me for coming up with the plan, and that angered me to the bone.

"Do you think I wanted this to happen to Adam?! That's my brother! And in case you haven't been listening to your son and grandson, there is no help coming. We're alone!"

"Both of you relax." My uncle Darrens deep voice silenced us both. "Tina is doing her best to help Adam right now. We don't know if he is sick, healthy, healing, or what. And all this arguing isn't making things better."

"Hes right." My dad walked out of the room that Adam was in with Tina behind him. "We need to keep a level head if were going to survive."

"So you think it's all over too then?!" My aunt Cara snapped back.

"I do, and the sooner we all accept it the better."

"Adam is gone." Tina was already crying but no one could see her behind my dad.

    No one said a word.

"Can I say some stuff to him alone?" I asked my dad.

I was so emotional I felt like I was drunk. Sick to my stomach. But calm on the outside. I entered the room and shut the door. I started to cry.
"Adam, Adam I'm so sorry. I... you were always there for me. Taught me everything Dad didn't. I'm going to miss you so much brother. Damn it! Why did this happen? AARRGH! His corpse lunges up at me and as a reflex I push it back down on the table.

"Son of a bi... Someone help!"

Everyone close to the door runs in. My younger brother, Connor takes the soul resting shot. BANG!!

"So it's the bites.. Come on help me clean him and this mess up. We need to have a funeral" I said with a tear rolling down my face and my voice breaking up.

The next day we were all in the backyard at my brother Adam's funeral. It was nice. Well, as nice as it could be. Then terror struck.

"Where's Trent!!" Maria screams at the top of her lungs.

Everyone quickly does a head count and it's confirmed. The youngest member of our group, is missing..

    Chapter 5- This New World

Two hours. That's how long it's been since we began searching for Trent. Maria's youngest brother, our 'adopted' son. Connor, Maria, my Dad, and I are searching a mile and a half away from the house, walking up the river that runs through our county. At the other side of out search grid is Matt, Howard, and Aldon. I hope they are having better luck than us.

"How much farther do you want to go before we head back?" Connor asks.

"At least another half mile. We haven't seen a trace of him yet, but we also haven't seen any trace of any walkers either." I responded.

    "That's a good thing."

"Your damn right, we need to look on the bright side ya kno-..."

    'POWww!'

A gun shot from of in the distance. It must be the other search party.

"What was that? Was that them?" Maria asks.

"We should go back to the house and see if it was or not."

"Sounds like a plan Carson, lead the way." My Dad said.

Our fast-paced walk turned into a slow sprint. We kept that pace until arriving at the front door of the house.

"What was that gun shot?" My Mom said as we entered the house.

"It wasn't from us, it had to be Matt and the others."

"I hope they are okay." Aunt Cara said as she started to cry over the fact that my cousins may have had to shoot something.

By now we are mostly all standing on the back porch, facing the direction the gun shot came from.

"I hope they found Trent." Maria says as she too begins to cry.
As I walk over to comfort her, "Oh my God look!!" Maria screams as she takes off running toward the tree line. They were back, with Trent. He was riding on Matt's back.

"Thank the Lord." I exclaimed. Everyone grouped around Trent to give him hugs, tell him how worried they were, and that they loved him. Especially his brother Josh. I used this time to talk to Howard quickly.

"Did he say anything about why he ran off?"

"He said he was sad all the time, and didn't want to be anymore. He also said he doesn't
want to die. That's all. We followed the road for about a two miles, and then we saw him running toward us, and away from a roamer. I took it down and we brought him straight back."

"Thanks man, you guys are life savers."

"Do you want to talk now Carson?" Maria asked, holding both Trent and Josh's hands.
The four of us headed in to the garage turned play room turned our new home. I couldn't get what Howard said. About Trent saying he didn't want to be sad anymore. Could that mean the walker that was after Trent was meant to kill him? I never thought I'd be having thoughts of an eight year old wanting to commit suicide running through my mind. This new world, it brings out the worst in everything.

"Trent do want to say anything? We aren't mad, Carson and I love you and we want to help you." Maria calmly says.

"I did want to be gone. But I got scared before the monster could get me, and I ran." Tears and snot started to run down his face. " I'm so sorry, I don't want to die, I don't!"

Maria and I hugged the two of them with as much love as possible. How could this have happened. I didn't see it coming what so ever. He was going to do it. End it all. It was heart-breaking.

"Trent, Josh, you two don't have anything to worry about, we will keep you safe as long as we are able. But you two have got to make a promise to your sister and I. Promise you will not leave our site unless we give you permission to go with someone else. You are never to be alone. Got it?"

"We promise" They said in uni-some.

It was a little over an hour past mid-day, and we are all meeting in the living room. Since Adam's death and funeral, and Trent going missing, we haven't had time to go over the supplies we brought back from Charlotte.

"Okay, Carson and Matt are going to go over their lists covering everything they brought back from Charlotte. Connor and Howard are keeping watch on the front and back deck. Christy is with Maria, Chloe and they boys. I think the boys are getting hair cuts. The rest of us will trying to come up with ways to best utilize these new supplies. Matt do you want to start?"

"Sure Tim. Howard, Aldon, and I were very successful at our first stop, the CVS. The pharmacy had barely been touched, and we got alot of good stuff from there. Four brand new, very expensive first aid kits. A lot of bottles of alcohol and sterilizers. The backpack full of medication varies with everything from pain killers to no dose. We were able to get four cases of water, and a lot of noodles. So our first stop had everything on the list and more. Walgreen's was the complete opposite. We thought the more the better. We got mobbed before we could pull into the parking lot. That's when we ran in Carson."

"That's a lot of stuff. I'm sure Linda, Tina, Lindsay, and Cara would do best cataloging those items. Carson, your turn son."

"Alright, tool wise we we're able to get four - eighteen volt battery drill combo kits. Those come with two drills, two batteries, and a charger in each kit. Next we got two portable band saws. Six 100 foot drop cords. Several misc. bolts, screws, nails, and bits. We were able to load 200 feet of rolled up chain linked fence, and 300 feet of barbed wire. Two - 500 foot spools of one and a half inch thick rope. And six rolls of wire. That's all of it."

"Okay great. With the other fencing and similar material we can find at houses close by, we can have a decent fence up in a week. With a small front and back yard even."

"That sounds great Tim! My Grandma Joe exclaimed. "Then I can start teaching the young ones about growing food for themselves. Just like we had to do right Betty."

"That's right," Grannie Betty chimed in. "Us older ladies think ahead. And we all know ya' need food to survive."

"They're both right. We need to hit a produce market soon, like real soon. With all the farmers around here that might have been the first thing to go." I proposed.

"Okay that's all good, let's all meet again first thing in the morning. Carson you and some others get those trucks unloaded. We're starting on the fence today."

    "Okay Dad. Good idea."

With all seven men working, and everyone else keeping watch around us outside, we made great progress with just four hours of sun light.

The next morning we all gathered in the living room once again. My Dad usually orchestrated these meetings. It was easy to see he was the leader here.

"Okay, so today we are sending Carson, Aldon, and Lindsay to two different produce markets. Both within twelve miles from here. The rest of us guys will work on the fence. Christy and Maria will take watch on the roof. The rest of you will keep watch on the front porch like yesterday. Christy go ahead and start your watch now and relieve Darren from his. And be careful. Carson make sure you all pack for an 'over nighter' just in case. And be careful."

My older sister Lindsay, her fiance Aldon, and I were loading the truck when the entire group comes out to say good bye. The end of the world has brought my family closer than it ever was before.

We got to the first produce market which is just off a small highway five minutes down the road from our house.

"We're in luck! I've got tomato seeds, cucumber, green pepper, red pepper, corn, and soy bean seeds. Hallelujah!" Aldon was ecstatic with his find, but careless with his excitement.

    "AGAARAH.."

"Behind you!" I yelled to warn him.

Two walkers breathing down his neck. He leaped foward to the ground just to pit distance between them. "Ga..G..Help me!" He screamed.

I was borrowing Connor's machete. It was my silent weapon of choice. While Lindsay ran for Aldon, I gave the closer of the two a kick in the stomach, making him stumble into his partner. SWIPE. SLICE. Before the first zombie's body hit the ground the second one's head was on its way as well. I was a natural.

"Hero. You, I mean you saved my life!" he shouted.

"SHHHH!!" Your load mouth is what got us here in the first place." Lindsay said as she hit his arm.

"Okay, we need to get back. One close call is one too many for the day."

Before we could make it fully around the first corner in the road we were stopped by a very unwelcome sight. Thirty to Fifty roamers heading right toward us.

    "Go around, go!" Lindsay yelled.

I had plenty of room off the left side of the road and we made it by fairly easily. But something else bothered me now.

"Whoa why are you going so fast Carson, slow down."

"Lindsay I have to get as far away from them as possible so the don't find out where we live. They are already following us now. Who knows how good they're scent of smell is. I have to!"

    "We'll go faster!"

When we got back, I was so amazed at how much work they had done while we we're gone, I didn't even bring up the fifty or so roamers. We lost them anyways.

"Dad, what the hell man, how long we're we gone?"

"Oh I don't know. An hour maybe."

"We'll you guys make it look like its been days."

"Yeah, I think we can do this Carson, I think we can make it, survive."

"For the first time since all this started, I think your right, Dad.".......

Three weeks later. We had the fence complete with a working, swinging gate. We had two gardens, one with tomatoes, cucumbers, and corn. The other has soy beans, peppers, and some watermelon seeds we found. The fence was almost the size of a full football field, and is about 5 feet tall. We encounter three to five walkers a day. They are stopped by the fence, then whomever is on watch radios down to the person on watch on the ground and they take care of them. We found some old toy two way radios that run on AA batteries. They work for that purpose only. We've had to go on two more runs for food. The most recent being the more successful of the two. So we're good for now in those departments.

"Carson, you going to be out long?" Maria asked me.

"Yeah but not too late. Connor and I are telling Josh and Trent some stories about their Uncle Adam. We will be in before you fall asleep, I love you."

    "I love yo-.."

"Don't take another step or I WILL shoot you!" Howard suddenly yells as he aims his rifle toward something behind me.

"Josh, Trent run to Maria now, GO!"

I draw my pistol and turn around to see a group of five...people..survivors. Standing just outside our gate...
