WD for pc glitch?

I just started playing the walking dead game for pc and I'm on first episode. When the main character (Lee) crawls outta of the crashed cop car and uncuff's himself he's attacked by the sheriff and he reaches for the shotgun. Now I point my mouse cursor at the sheriff but the only option talking. My character is holding the shotgun but no go..I can't figure out how to take out the sheriff with the shotgun..is this a glitch? On the left side of the screen you can see the shotgun icon but how do you blow the sheriff's head off? Sorry but I'm new to this game and haven't been able to find a answer. I'm running windows 8 64bit OS. Thanks for the help.

    When you hit the car look to your right and grab the shell, then look to your left and grab the shotgun. Lee will fumble with the shell and drop it slightly to your right. Pick it up again and he will successfully put it in the shotgun. By this time the officer pretty much stops moving so you can take as long as you'd like to actually shoot him. :)
