What do you think would've happen if Lily and Carley/Doug were still in Eps. 4 and 5?

edited March 2013 in The Walking Dead
When I look back at the series I would've felt an even stronger response if those two were still in the group. Like if they would help me save Clem or how they would've reacted to Christa and Omid. I've been thinking about this for a while. What do you guys think?

First of all, Lilly would never have been on board with Kenny's plan. It's pretty hard to determine what her character would've been like after episode 3, but I think that the whole boat subplot would be gone.

Thus, the group would have never gone to Crawford. And I doubt that Lilly would advocate going there JUST for the medicine for Omid. This can all lead to Lee never getting bit, who knows?

As for Doug/Carley, I would think that they would be there for Lee. They still would have been strong people in the group. Carley's potential romance with Lee would have still been developed, as well as Doug's friendship with Lee.

I don't think her opinion would have mattered in the end. It would be sort of similar to the group vote if you decide against going to the St. Johns farm in episode 2.

Even if there was indecision, Kenny would probably go with Vernon(who has his own large group) for the boat regardless of what anyone else does. Ben might go with him just to try to patch things up(you know, bandit thing). Molly would go as well, since i think the only reason she was still in Savannah was because she wanted the picture of her sister, but never had the force to get it. Lastly Christa would go, because it's the only way to get the medicine for Omid.

So that leaves Lilly, Carley/Doug and Lee. If the player decides to go, Carley/Doug would probably follow suit. Tough luck, Lilly.

An even better story. I NEVER liked Omid/Christa. Missed Carly alot. Thought maybe Lee/Clem/Carly could start a new family. Something positive to strive for other than just survival. Oh well everyones dead now. :(

Knowing what I know now, it'd be the first time I'd happily oblige a request from Kenny to kill someone for him.

I don't know about Doug or Carley, but knowing Lilly she'd complain about everything every step of the way, constantly needle Kenny about Duck and Katjaa dying, refuse to go to Crawford to fix the boat, refuse to search for Clementine, then steal the boat before Lee's group or Vernon's group go back. :p

I bet Lilly would have tried to keep leadership, and be against Kenny's boat plan, but Kenny would have none of that shit. Lilly would either snap like she did when she shot Carley/Doug, or she'd get herself killed.

I stand by the thought that Carley and Lee could survive. The chances? Very low. But I will say it is possible. Lilly? I want her dead, so no. Just no

If only character survival was based on how much i wanted them to live :p

Anyway on the point of the thread i think it's impossible to say, It would have a million tiny effects and probably a few major ones but as for what they might be... I will say i can't imagine Lilly and Christa getting on all that well, with her reaction to strangers especially.

I will say though that i think they killed Carley off to early, they managed to create a very powerful and shocking scene through her death, but i was left feeling a little short changed with her character arc. You can't really moan that someone dies in this universe, but i think the timing was off. Not so much with Lilly since they crammed an awful lot of her character into the time she had.

If you tell Kenny about Lee's past but not Lilly, it does make for a kind of epic "Fuck You" moment where Carley seemingly kicks Lilly's ass from beyond the grave. Her face is priceless.

I like how it almost looks like she's reading Kenny's subtitles in disbelief.

But otherwise I agree, I was curious to how Carley would have reacted if she'd been around in the following episodes. I think the bigger issue is Lee never really gets to mention Carley or Doug again after they die, barring when you talk to Clem and Katjaa briefly after it happens and once with the Stranger if you accused Carley of stealing. Other than that they're mostly forgotten.

I know the series doesn't lend itself well to long bouts of mourning, but it seemed like there were at least a few moments where mention of them could have been weaved in naturally. I know for people who saved Doug they talk about how Doug probably would have loved the train and during the whole bit when Lee's teaching Clem shoot I was thinking Carley would have been really helpful for this. It seems like bits of dialogue there could have mentioned them in at least an off-hand way.

And the attic scene during the last episode had a really good moment to reflect on Carley or Doug or whomever you missed most when Kenny mentions everyone having lost family. It seems like that could have led on to a dialogue choice where you speak up about whichever character you missed most and talk about him/her for a little bit to Christa and Kenny could comment on them. It didn't have to be for long, just long enough to show they weren't forgotten.

This. I was disappointed that we essentially just went on like nothing has happened--as if the characters that didn't make it past ep 3 had so little impact on Lee's emotions. While I get there were a ton of pressing issues, I don't buy into the essentially "I am not mourning because I have no time" excuse in the series. It's just not natural for most humans to not have any outlet. Like you said, it doesn't have to be some long bouts of crying, depression, etc. It could have been weaved into some dialogue without overtaking the immediate concerns.

I really did find Lee to be overly stoic until the very end.

Definitely, i think at least one moment where you could have Lee open up about some of the sorrow, be that about Carley, Doug, his family, whoever, would have made for a powerful scene.

I would argue though that my Lee did mourn, given that he left Lilly on the side of the road, admitted his feeling to Katjaa, raged and then finally killed Ben. If you watch him when he realises his family are dead or when he can admit guilt to the stranger, I got the feeling that it was just Lee's character to suffer silently, rather than him not feeling the pain. He's always very reluctant to talk about it.

Yeah, but like I said, the attic scene really seemed like a natural spot to bring up any lingering feelings about fallen comrades. What with Kenny bringing up the Larry situation and Lee being bitten and not having much time left. And if it was a dialogue choice it could be whomever the player wanted to talk about most. It could be Carley/Doug, or Mark or Chuck even.

They did something like for Lee's family in episode three actually. Where after Lilly snaps two of your dialogue options for Clem bring up Lee's family. Either the story about how his brother almost died chasing after some guys or the one about his mom playing her tuba on April's Fool day. Something like that in the final episode to show one of your favorite characters was gone by not forgotten would have been nice.

Not sure how i've managed to miss the family conversation dialogue, but yeah i agree completely about the attic. Opportunity missed for a great scene and a bit of closure for the player.

In the R.V. after Lee's tells Clem about Duck being bitten and Doug/Carley being dead there's the options "I miss my parents." and "My brother almost died once." that let you bring up amusing stories about Lee's family.

Haha the part about Lilly cracked me up, because on my first playthrough that's what happened :P. And who knows about the dialogue? In season 2, maybe our saves will let Clem tell Lee's story to the new people she meets along the way, and the tale of the zombie apocalypse xD. But yeah, season 2 should have many opportunities for the sort(depending who you play as). But yeah, season 1 should have had more regret/mourning/sorrow moments, like episode 1 did and Kenny's in episode 5 (attic, room of dead couple, etc.)

Eh, I don't think Lilly would be as bad as people claim she's be. Assuming she doesn't snap (I believe, given time, she'd get over Larry's death), she'd be a really cool character. I don't know about you but she developed into a pretty awesome character come episode three, and even in the previous episodes she wasn't that bad (still bad but totally tolerable in my opinion). She'd be against the boat plan and the random addition of all the new people in the group. But, given that the food crisis wasn't exactly present mid-way through episode three and all the subsequent episodes (for whatever reason), I don't think she'd be that hard pressed to get them out of the group. She'd probably be down for a boat but would heavily doubt that there would be any, she'd probably rub Kenny's face in it too. Also, I believe, she'd forgive Kenny and, possibly, Lee given time.

"Somewhere, deep down, I understand what you did..."

Also inb4 I get the whole board replying saying that she'd just continue to be a shrill harpy with no soul.

As for Carley and Doug... Doug would probably help get the train running faster, help fix the boat, but wouldn't exactly... thrive in Crawford. Meanwhile Carley would still be given the lovin' to Lee, be a big help in any walker attack, and would obviously thrive in Crawford.

Carley would've gotten it on with Lee x)
