First Person Shooter in Telltale's The Walking Dead (great!)

edited March 2013 in The Walking Dead
The gameplay mechanics of the first person shooter in Telltale's The Walking Dead worked really well, which made me wish there was more of it.

It was on Episode 4 (or 5, can't remember clearly now) where they were at the building gathering equipment needed, and Lee (you) were shooting the walkers to get the passage way clear.

It did have plenty of action but wasting some walkers every now and then would've been nicer when needed.

I didn't really like that bit. Felt scripted and out of place. It was just "click on the targets to proceed" when in reality FPS games have more depth than that. Sure people will tell you that you just aim for the head and push the fire button but those people are generalizing the genre.

My point is Point and click is very different then an FPS. And TWD isn't a FPS so it didn't feel right.

The mansion hallway shootout in episode 5 was fine, but the actual first person firefights in episode 4 did not fit very well, in my opinion. Invulnerable zombies and unlimited ammo really ruins my immersion during those parts.

the shooting sequences worked because they were short and only few of them, as Tornreaper has said there is way more to an FPS than just point and click, any more shooting in the game would have needed a totally upgraded engine and a tonne of work so that the quality of the game overall wouldn't be reduced by the limitations of the shooting sequences, so in my opinion any more shooting than the short bits in the first season wouldn't be worth doing unless they were going to develop them into proper FPS mechanics and that should be a low priority compared to more impact/variety of choices which would take a lot of work on it's own.

I didn't like those shoot-outs, they didn't really fit into the game, I would have prefered shootouts like the scene where the group's taking a stand at the mansion.

Well perhaps in S2 we may see more shooting scenes?

Felt that the shooting controls in Ep 4 were very wonky when you were fighting the walkers that were at the door where Christa and Vernon were hiding out in.

Ep 5 Mansion shoot out was fun though :D
