Mention of Carley/Doug

I don't want to sound annoying but am i the only one who is irritated that Doug/Carley don't get mentioned in episodes 4 and 5 ever again , unless Campman mentiones them so then he can find a reason to criticize our choices , or you get Carley as an option to " Have you ever hurt someone you care about " conversation unless you accused Carley of stealing which is unfair .
It's as if Telltale wants us to forget about them completely , pretend that they never existed and that they never brought so much impact on Lee like Lilly , Larry and Kenny's family
I though that in the attic scene it would be the perfect opportunity to mention Doug/Carley to Omid and Christa and tell them :
If you saved Carley Lee will say that she was a great friend , she helped him with his past and he may have fallen in love with her .
If you saved Doug Lee will say that he was a great friend a bit weird but always to wanted help people
But unfortunately you never get that option , i hate how they can mention Lilly , Larry and Kenny's family but you can't mention the people who always helped Lee , who always agreed with him and never demanded loyalty from him .
What are your thoughts on this ?

We can never forget Doug and Carley! I wish they had come up a little more concretely later in the season, just for a moment, and I think they have more than zero presence, but it was definitely not our intention for you to forget them forever.

I feel like there was a missed opportunity to reminisce about them or other fallen friends (Chuck in particular) in the attic scene. What with Kenny talking about his history with Lee and how a lot of people lost family, it seemed like a natural opportunity to mention whichever supporting character the player missed most.

I agree that they have more than a zero presence simply by, ironically, no longer being there, especially in Carley's case, because Lee has basically lost his most dependable, "will follow you no matter what" ally. Like I said in another thread, everything after episode 3 felt pretty lonely. And TTG did a solid job creating that emptiness through the characters.

And I think it's precisely because of this that Lee should have been given the opportunity, if only briefly, to show that he misses those characters. The attic scene would have been great as Jaded said. Kenny is given the chance to mourn, but Lee wasn't really given that chance, which is a wasted opportunity to flesh out Lee's character. Despite his responsibility to Clem, Lee's still human after all.

Dang, now I wish we were able to that now. Would have been nice to tell a story about Carley saving Lee's ass in front of the pharmacy, or make sure the memory of Doug's epic alarm system lived on. Hell, I bet something nice even could have been said about Larry.

Kenny already covered Larry. He said Larry was "built like a brick shithouse". There's no doubt in my mind that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about Larry in his entire life. :D

Not mentioning Carley/Doug annoyed me as it felt like their deaths didn't really affact Lee especially since in Carley's case she was the person Lee was closest to besides Clem. Although I applaud the wrters for creating that feeling that you were truly alone and that you couldn't really trust anyone anymore.

Yeah you'd think that after seeing the reactions of Doug/Carley's death that Telltale would make a scene were Lee is mourning their deaths just to get some closure but no , i wish they give us an option to tell Omid and Christa about Doug/Carley .
You know what's really sad , is that when season 2 will come up these two great characters will be forgotten forever along with Mark , Chuck , Katjaa , Duck , Kenny , Larry except for Clementine and maybe Christa and Omid , with Molly i don't know and Lilly will probably appear .

Lots shall be simply forgotten it seems. No lie, I expected Omid to go "so Lee... You had any special lady out there?" Kinda joke, and the option to bring up Carley or his ex. It seemed to be plausible at the time.

The chance for the remaining survivors giving some final thoughts on everyone we had met and lost would have been nice.

Though mentioning it now, I think the fact that I was the only one who ever mourned Chuck was the one that bothered me the most. You could say his probable death went without saying for most of the group, but he really did deserve more than dieing alone and forgotten in the sewers. A thoughtful remembrance for the guy would have been a nice juxtaposition to what little we knew about his life...

    I agree, poor Chuck

Yeah, hobro totally deserves more of a mention, especially considering we kinda just took his train and got him into the mess.

We also kinda get him killed... Chuck had to save our little girl for us
  • edited April 2013
Yeah that was a little jarring, not being able to even mention them. Seems like everyone got a chance to unload some grief except Lee (and subsequently me :(). Carley was my in-game BFF damn it!

Just because one walker was apparently immune to bullets :D
Anyway, I'll miss every character that died: the cop, Shawn, Carley, Mark, Larry, Doug, Katjaa, Kenny Jr., Chuck, Ben and Kenny.

And even Travis, Mr. Parker, Jolene, Andy, Danny, Brenda, the "I don't like no hash" guy, the "you don't fuck with us" guy and Brie. :D

No mention for Beatrice(the screaming girl in ep 3 beginning)? I see how it is. :(

Uh... Running in circles and bringing the dead TO you kinda loses her remembrance xD And calm your horses :P No mention for bandit #1 that got his guts blown out by "Fuck you" guy? I see how it is, MORNAI >.> lol

I still wonder what would have happened had he stayed longer. He gave us his home, his food, his hobo-sage advice... Chuck probably did more for Lee and Clem in his first ten-minutes of screen-time than half of the people we met did, the least he could have gotten was a little recap card in the epilogue.

    I didn't miss them.
It was a pretty clean shot.

That is to say I'll always carry a part of them with me.
And by that I mean the blood stains they left on my hands.

Growing up in rural Georgia I learned not to waste.
    But I wasted them.

    Alright I'm done..

I wanted the dream sequence :D

Though it might've ruined the flow and tension of Ep 2, so I see why you guys cut it...

    CHET LIVES.

I totally forgot about Irene and Beatrice, though.

Chet actually dies. If you go at night he's a walker, and if at morning he leaves for his moma's, so he is dead. I have no doubts of that.

Oh i see, you're willing to believe Lee is alive even after Telltale says he died, but poor ol' Chet has zero chance at survival?

I know someone who isn't getting invited to hot dish night.

:S Well... Chet is... Chet... lol It's because he's urban xD

And good, I don't like no hot dish :P To me the difference is you see him as a walker.

    CHET IS NOT URBAN!
And I never saw zombie Chet, so he's surviving with his mama and they are developing the cure in my playthrough. In your's he's probably King of Zombies, since you left at night.

All this talk about remembering Chet and Irene and Beatrice, but no mention of Officer Mitchell?

For shame on all of you.

Officer Mitchell was annoying, "This is Andre..." -"It's officer Mitchell" "Well Andre and I..." -"It's officer Mitchell..." like anybody gives a shit anymore.

Yeah, in what way is Chet "Urban?"; he lives in rural Georgia and he's white; he's about as far from "Urban" as you can get.

Though, I'm pretty sure Chet's dead; the guy just like, up and walks home at night during the zombie apocalypse. :p

It was still only the first couple of days since the world shit the bed when there was still some hope things would return to normal. So I can kinda understand that.

Anyhoo, as the topic, it bugged me too that neither one could be mentioned. Kenny's family can be mentioned multiple times after their deaths, but it's like Doug and Carley just never existed at all once you meet Christa and Omid... their pet cat receives more mention.

I don't think Chet lasted 3 months, if you didn't choose to scoot before dawn, he was dead already, I give him 3 days.

I seem to recall Carley can be brought up during the interrogation scene with the Stranger in Episode 5.

Yes, but it's only if the player basically back stab her by accusing her of stealing the supplies in episode three. You can express your regret to the Stranger for doing so.

But I don't think it's what most of us are looking for or could do, since Carley fans are unlikely to accuse her of stealing. Given how close the relationship was, it would've been nice to have a chance to mourn her in some way or say how much we missed her advice/skills/etc. during a tight spot just so we know that she isn't forgotten.

I think by having such an option, it rounds out Lee as a character more as it reinforces the same human emotions that, for example, Kenny was going through even if it wasn't to the same extent.
