It's a shame that we never got to see Clem and Ben interact much...

edited April 2013 in The Walking Dead
Because obviously there was something going on since Clementine stood up for Ben. So for those who are interested, I think we should gather some fanart of Ben and Clem and post them here =) for those that took an interest in their friendship. Alright so i'll start with a selected few that I stumbled upon.

at times i forgot that Ben was still a youth or 'child'.and treated him different than Clem or Duck but i think i was justified by his strange actions. he was more a man than a child because what child would say drop me im not worth it? maybe it was teenage angst? :D

In the second one Clem shows like no emotions at all lol. And wtf people? You would trust Ben to Clem!? he fucks up everything he touches! Also, he's what, 17? 18? Clem is nine! That's worse than Nino and Jaffar of Fire Emblem!

Now now, he touched that switch on the train and, to his credit, the train did not immediately erupt into a fiery explosion. So that is at least one thing he specifically touched and somehow managed to not fuck up. :p

Because he touched the brakes, they realized the train worked, and used it to get to Savannah, which attracted the walkers that killed(directly or indirectly) several members of the group. Also, the train was unusable once they arrived at Savannah :P

Well if you're going that route you might then you might as well just blame Lee for fixing the train in the first place If he hadn't done that none of that other stuff wouldn't have happened. And if he hadn't taken those meds from the grate the bandits wouldn't have attacked right then. And if he hadn't got the keys to pharmacy to save Larry, there would be no alarm which means Doug or Carley wouldn't have died and Larry probably would have. So yeah, everything is Lee's fault... somehow. :p

Piggyback, the only thing on Bens back is guilt.
Do like how cool Duck looks in the one.

But Ben didn't stand up for Clementine in her time of need when they got cornered by walkers. Instead, he ran away like the coward he is. If there was a real friendship or sibling-like relationship between them, Ben wouldn't have ran off leaving Clem to die. Nor did he show real concern when Clem went missing when Lee and Kenny were boating shopping, nor did he volunteer to go search for Clem unless Lee guilt trips him.

Yeah, I'm sure there was a lot of off screen interaction, but I doubt that translated into any serious bond. Clem stood up for Ben at Crawford because she still has the innocence of a child.

I remember Ben hooking Clementine up with some stickers.

That doesn't really make up for abandoning her in the streets, but hey, Clem looks for the good in people.

Do you think if Ben actually looked after her as well that Clementine would have felt a bond with Ben?

Replace "Ben" with "everyone". Other than Lee and maybe the stranger, she barely talked to anyone at all.

What I think is, that when Lee was gone scavenging, and Kat buisy, Ben played babysitter for Clem and kept her occupied, he gave her stickers (as mentioned above) and maybe she felt he was a brother figure to her. She didn't have a big brother, and in that 3 months, much things might have happened between them.

Well I don't think she had much of choice about that, Duck never really shut up. :p

She got pretty chummy with Christa when she first meet her. I think the problem is, as Lee, we're not present for conversations he's not part of, so we don't always know what other characters are telling each other. Combine that with the fact the episodes only focus on times when things are going wrong, and we really don't always know what's going on between the rest of the cast unless they simply tell Lee about it.

EDIT: Just remembered, she also seemed to get along with Katjaa when we she first met her as well. But again, we don't actually hear what they're talking about.

Nah, he's just a motor mouth. He's every bit as eager to play Robin to Lee's Batman as he is to tell Clementine about Robert Kirkman comics that aren't the Walking Dead.

Warming up to her and Omid fairly quickly, makes sense.
We wouldn't have been as willing to potentially leave her in their care otherwise.

Yeah, though I kind of like to assume that everyone was alright with Clem for the most part. Despite all the group-strife Ben found her stickers, Lilly found her hair ties, etc.

I like the chances to see the interactions outside of the life-or-death disputes, so it'd be nice to have the group continue to interact more as a whole in season 2.

^Haha yeah, I always thought it'd be awesome for a group interaction without it being dire circumstances; Theme park, poker game, bowling, stuff like that. In times of a zombie apocalypse, people will need times of normalcy; moments where they can forget the world of terror and go back to how things were in the past, and have sweet tender parts of just hanging out. Hell, just like a BQ or party to celebrate something or like a holiday. There should be more group interactions as a whole. They wouldn't need to be storyline ones, just sidearcs, little moments where the characters can bond in an awesome, non-awkward way.

Yeah, that would be great. It can also show how the group bonded or hate each other. For example, if you side with Kenny, then he'll chill with you over a poker game while Larry will tell you to go screw yourself or something. Nothing too crazy obviously like a street race with abandoned cars lol, but people need stuff to do during down time even if the world's a mess. And considering they were stuck in the inn most of the time, there were certainly down time.

What creeps you out about it? I don't think those pics imply that they are having a romantic interest....if that is what's creeping you out. or the fact that Ben and Clementine having any sort of relationship is creepy to you?

Well then I guess the whole relationship between Clementine and Lee was super creepy then since Lee wasn't Clementine's father

What creeps me out is, that people are always creeped out about a kid-adult/teenager friendship. It's the apocalypse, she can't pick her friends, and I'm sure none of them is a sicko anyways. The first thing that crosses people's minds is something sick, when talking about something normal.

Ben is a teenager, and the adults consider him a kid anyways, so since he is the older "kid" he has to play babysitter for the younger kids, and since he has to do it, why can't he try and be friends with them? Makes things easier for all of them.
