The fact that Lilly pretty much stopped leading in order to attend to her father meant that someone had to step up. Kenny stepped up, and he actually did a pretty good job. If he hadn't been leading, they might not have gotten out of the drug store when the walkers attacked.

He is the fastes one to react and do something, and besides Lee, who else should have taken the position, since Lilly had to take care of Larry? Carley? No, she's the right hand girl, Doug? Haha... No need to say Katjaa, Duck or Clem either... Glenn? Well in the begining he was just the group's scavenger, with the experience he gathered in the show, he could actually be a good, wise leader, but back in the drugstore that really was no option either, say what you want about Kenny, but he listens to sense, takes care of his people, and by that I don't only mean his family, but the whole group, even Lilly's ass. And the most important trait of his, is that he is a determined person, he knows what to do in the drugstore, doesn't he? He assigns the tasks, pretty good, with barely knowing the people.

Later on, he was a pain in the ... *hrrrhmmmghhh* but I still backed him up, whenever it was possible, and he repaid the favor.

Kenny did. And as the boss, his word is the one that matters.

someone had to take control else everyone would have just been panicking, that is one of the reasons kenny was great, he was a guy that got stuff done

I like how Duck and Kat had 1 job... baricade a door "Glenn I need your help" making Lee choose between Carley and Doug. Also Clem was risking her life helping. Lee would have done a better job. Lilly should have barricaded the door while Kat tended to Larry.

But Lilly did nothing but try to get Larry out of there. It's not like Duck and Kat are fighters, so barricading was about the only thing they could do. And Kenny was at just as much risk as Lee, Carley, and Doug, likely running into some walkers while trying to get everybody, including Lilly and Larry, to the truck. And then, even when his family was safe in the truck, he decided to go back and get Lee, Carley, and Doug. Unfortunately, he arrived too late for one of them. The only questionable thing about that scene would be Clem staying behind with Lee, although that may be attributed to Lee not wanting her to leave his sight.

And then for some reason Larry comes back into the store, and Lilly is nowhere to be found. So much for getting her dad to the truck I guess. That entire sequence, to me, said that Kenny was a better leader than Lilly. She wilted during the group's first major encounter with walkers, when a leader was needed most. Kenny stepped up and, as he likes to say more and more as time passes during the game, did what he had to do.

I loved Lilly's reaction to Carley saying that Kenny is "the boss."
