Can't get the Sam & Max launcher to work
Hello, all.
I downloaded the demo for the first episode of Season One, but I keep getting script errors when I try to launch it. There are four in total; the first one says "Permission denied", and then the next three say "Object doesn't support this property or method." All I get on the launch window is a field for a serial number and a "Submit query" button, so I can't play the demo.
If it helps, my computer runs Windows 7, and I have three internet browsers installed (IE 9, Firefox, and Chrome; I think I read somewhere that IE is needed for the launcher?). I'm pretty sure I used the standard installation process for the game when I downloaded it. Also, I'm pretty sure that my software is up to date, but if there are any programs that must be updated to run the game, please let me know.
I just ordered the disc version of Season One through Amazon, so I'm hoping that I won't have the same problem pop up with that (though given my understanding that downloading the demo downloads the full episode that can be unlocked with a purchased serial number, I'm concerned it's likely to happen. Better to try and resolve it now than wait until later). Thank you so much for any help you can give!

I think the disc version might have a different launcher, so you might not run into the same problem.
I would try running the game during a clean boot (see below). Make sure
you right click the game icon and select "run as administrator".
Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:
1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
4. Select the Services tab
5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
6. Click Disable all
7. If running the game on Steam, re-check the "Steam Client Service"
8. Click on OK
9. Click Restart.
10. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.
After performing the necessary steps, restore your settings by doing the following:
1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click Ok
4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer
I tried the clean boot, but I still got the script errors. I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling after the clean boot, but it didn't change anything. Even moving the installed files to my desktop did nothing (I'm only somewhat familiar with computer workings, so I would guess that does nothing). Frankly, right now, I'm at a loss for ideas.
Would posting screenshots help?

Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Okay, that's the same as in my virtual machine.
Did you ever change any security settings in internet explorer, or do you have any firewall or antivirus running that could interfere with the games launcher?
Out of curiosity, might changing the settings for internet and/or local intranet under the security tab have any effect? I've currently got those set on medium-high and medium-low.
EDIT: Yep, there's just something about the new IE 9 that doesn't seem to want to work with the launcher.
EDIT: So I found out there's an IE 10, so I installed that, and still no good. Ironically, my brother has the same internet browser and can get the launcher to run with no problems. I tried matching the Security, Privacy, and Advanced tab options to his, and still no good.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to leave them. They'd be greatly appreciated.
