Everyone knows that if you're losing a hand you can just alt+f4 to quit the game and then when you continue the tournament you're back to where you were before that hand, right?

How is that in any way fun? Might as well not play the game.

It's not fun. It was a trick I once abused back in the first game, before realizing that doing that inevitably lead to save game corruption. (The kind that wipes your slate clean and forces you to unlock everything anew.) I abused it because I was too lazy to learn how to actually play well.

I only mentioned it because I checked just to see if it works in the sequel, and it does, and because I know a lot of the people whining about how the game cheats--it most certainly does not--aren't going to be willing to learn how to actually play, so I might as well toss them some kind of bone. Using this they can at least have a solid chance at unlocking bounties and other things.

According to probability, it has a roughly one in 16 quattuordecillion (16 followed by 45 zero's) chance, not sure what your definition of "miraculous" is, but...
My point was if there was already four to a straight flush on the board, then, from that point, two people each holding one of the possible cards to complete it is not miraculous. Pretty unlikely, yes, but it's still only a 52-card deck; it's the same chance as two people hitting different one-outers.

The probability of two people hitting a straight flush counting from before any cards are dealt is probably extremely low, but I have a hard time believing it's 1 in 16 quattuordecillion. Where did you get that number?

    You mean "leads" or "led". I'm sorry, I normally don't bother to correct spelling errors, but I've started to see this one everywhere and I'm starting to lose my mind over it. "Pet peeve" doesn't begin to describe it. ^^;;

Is it possible for some people to consistently be experiencing A.I. issues the rest of us aren't having? Maybe somebody who feels cheated should record an entire game so the rest of us can compare.

Wish I could, but I don't wanna spend a lot of money on one of those gameplay recorders. And recording it with a camera with poor quality is too much of a chore.

so, im a huge fan of you, telltale. a hugelly hugey hugellay hugeesm hugeay fan of you. i already said im a fan of you? anyways, i do agree with it, after i lost a showdown (me vs. claptrap vs. ash) where they had these cards: (C = Claptrap A=Ash P=Player)
    C = A, Q
    A = A, J
    P = 2, 4 (which is a set i get most of the time o_O)
I would suggest you to launch a update, if possible, nerfing just a little bit the cpu and adding a difficulty select. i know that it would be hard and maybe boring, but i think everyone DO want it. we want to play poker for fun, not for rages, and even newbies like the most of us, also want to play and try, not only pros. thank you, if you saw this, telltale team! adyos, people and poker enthusiasts, and telltale: you DO have lots of fans from Brazil, so, thank you! (a proposital mispelling:) Tank you all!!
P.S.: sorry for the big message, and sorry for the bad english, im brazillian. i made an account JUST to say this, so, i have only one post, probably this will be the only.
So, i will come back if i see any other problems, sine im not here to cry, im here to give you feedback, if possible! now, i will play some more =D im nearly winning, and i won only 3 tournaments, with two of them being items D:

Yeah. That is a very bad hand to be playing... just about everything can beat it unless you get lucky with the community cards.

You're absolutely right; I read it as "led" in my mind but I misspelled it as "lead." I'm something of a writer so I'm usually better about avoiding silly typos like that.

I don't think the game cheats at all. I have played a LOT of hands now... and sometimes the other guys win outrageously... and then sometimes I do.

I can immediatly recognize when I'm playing badly or I'm making bad decisions. I start losing and losing. From time to time I get beaten with a kicker that's just above my hand. Well, I recognize that I am somewhat predicting what kind of cards the other guys are playing, and if I have a good chance or winning the hand. I only go all in when I either have a really really good hand or when I have a moderately good hand and I'm sure they're full of crap and bluffing.

Sometimes it pays to be a cautious player.

Since I already have a recorder hooked up I would love to try, but this game is completely unplayable on the PS3 at the moment... the auto-save grinds the game down to a screaming halt. Ran into my second locked up PS3 issue yesterday afternoon. No more for me until this game is fixed.

First, I don't care what any of you think of me.

I play hold 'em all the time. I play it with friends, at casino, and I play tons of hold 'em games online. I am also a computer scientist. I'll happily give away my reddit username if you don't believe any of this.

I heavily suspect something is fishy in this game. The amount of time the other players win on the river is nothing short of staggering. The players either always have the cards they need when cards get flipped, or when all in, win on the river. In fact in the games I've played, I've never seen a win on the turn. Further making me go wtf something is going on here.

The best guess I have without looking at code is that the cards in the deck are NOT determined at deal time. If this happened at a real poker table people would be calling bullshit all day. You simply don't win on the river 2, 3, and 4 times in a row. You can not bluff and only play if you have the best hand on the flop and the A.I. in my games still wins 100% of the time. Simply because of the magic river.

I'm asking for my money back as IMO crappy yahoo hold 'em is better than this game, and I hate yahoo hold 'em.

You obviously can prove nothing without code and numbers in the thousands (law of large numbers), but the game is not fun when anyone who has ever played poker can immediately smell something fishy going on.

I've said my peace. I just don't know why, if it's true they fudged the game, that they couldn't just randomize the deck truely. Was making the A.I. that difficult for them? I mean, don't make a fricken poker game if you can't make poker A.I. then. Many video games "cheat to win", in order to add artificial difficulty to the game. But this is poker. You can't do that in poker, and if you did, shame on you for making a poker game like this. I only bought this for the characters in it, I didn't know I would be getting the worst poker game I've ever played. Any of you online poker players will know how bad some of the stuff out there is, this takes the cake IMO.

    Peace.

Just out of curiosity, to the 5 people that played the original Telltale Texas Hold'em, what was the average luck with the cards there?

Personally I still am seeing about the right amount of luck I should have with the cards(there are 4 other people so there is a 1/5th chance of me winning right?) and aren't having a problem, but I'm curious how the AI/randomness was felt there.
  • edited May 2013
I didn't notice anything unusual about luck in TTTH. I had a pretty easy time beating the AI.

Someone come to my house and play my game because I must have a defective product. My game is ash winning on the river with cards that are supposed to be seen less than 1 in a 10000 hands every hand. I wish I could see straight flushes as much as ash does in this game. Please, someone tell me how to get these IRL every other hand so I can be like this game, since it doesn't cheat.... right?

Could we have screenshots/footage? I'm not saying I don't believe you, but we really don't know if you are telling the truth or not.
  • edited May 2013
Or maybe the game IS cheating. Remember this is Glados who is working the deck..... the cake is a LIE!!
  • edited May 2013
I haven't noticed anything like this. I've got 4/5 of the rewards unlocked (can't get that last win with a high card bounty), and am well on my way to the $1,000,000 achievement. I've lost here and there to the computer getting lucky, but I've also won that way too. It feels pretty balanced to me.

So if I had anything to complain about when it comes to this game's random number generator, it's how often I fold because I don't appear to have anything after the flop (and there's a high likelihood of someone else having something strong) and then I get exactly what I needed on the turn or the river as I watch the rest of them play out the hand. This happens to me about forty to fifty percent of the time I fold and it's extremely frustrating when combined with the observed tendency for the AI to get what they need a lot of the time. It definitely feels like there's some futzing with the programming to ensure drama and sudden turnarounds, and yet when the player is getting the turn-arounds in their favor... here I am folding before it happens, so often.
  • edited May 2013
Well either the game's cheating or there's something incredibly wonky with its random number generator.

Either way I'm not happy and I want my money back.
  • edited May 2013
Why does the AI get the card they need on the river every time? I'm not kidding, every time I have a hand dominated and they only have a 4 or 5% chance of winning they get the card they need and it's beyond annoying. I was just about to get another unlockable and had Ash dominated and the only card that would help him was a 2 and sure enough he gets it just like the hand before he could only win with a 9 on the river and gets a 9, and the hand before that he could only win with a 6 and gets it on the river. I went from being up 83K to 17K to losing the tournament because of this cheap AI. Plus will a patch ever come out to deal with this and all the freezing? I've had to restart the game on multiple occasions and the game freezes nearly every hand in between hands and dialogue.
  • edited May 2013
To all you shouting "cheater" because this experience is different than playing real-life poker, I think I know why. You play humans. This game has AI. Ballsy AI. And they might not fold as often as their human counterparts. The reason you're seeing different outcomes than you've seen before is because the game is going in less predictable directions. And everything else is just luck or unluck.
  • edited May 2013
I said it's cheap not cheating. In real life a player can get the card he or she needs on the river a few times in a row but the odds are equivalent to winning the pick 4 straight 3 days in a row. It's ridiculous, Telltale tells us they want us to have the unlocks but whenever I play for them the AI gets the card they need over and over and if I win a big hand it freezes up half the time and I have to shut down and start that hand over. This game was made half assed and I can't believe it was allowed to be released the way it is. Just won a big hand and sure enough it froze up and now I have to restart, this is beyond annoying.

play smarter. stop putting yourself in situations where the AI getting their card will beat you.

if you don't have a sure win, don't go all in. if you have doubts that your hand won't win, don't call a bet.

my average tournament win takes 35-45 minutes.

what if they proved their RNG to be unbiased and statistically sound through a battery of tests? would you still want your money back because its not auto-unlocks of your bounty items?

People are still accusing Telltale of cheating...

It doesn't matter if you or the Ai win to Telltale...

It is a game it would be boring if they weren't difficult to beat...

I am 600,000 down but still loving it and I know it is because I have heavy AI...

It's not cheating. The game has no motivation to cheat! Why would we write cheating code into a game which is only fun when it's authentic? There's no money on the line, only unlocks which we want you to have. No cheating, I promise.

So, questions/notes: 1) Were you playing Omaha or Texas Hold'em? 2) Start uploading screenshots if you're convinced that you're being cheated, so we can see what's up.

All I know is I "WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER POKER NIGHT GAME" the RNG is unbelievably stupid. And who ever put the "Win with a high card" challenge in the game needs to be flogged every day. Not the Monty Python style of flogging but the "Passion of the Christ" style!!! Every dam day for the rest of their lives!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::eek::eek::mad::mad:

Not to get all "pix or it didn't happen" on people, but I would love to see a video showing the game cheating outrageously. If it is so pervasive, you should be able to throw on fraps and get one pretty quickly, no?

I dont even play poker (got the game for the bounties) and unlocked everything within two days. If someone as inexperienced as me can beat this game without much effort, maybe you're doing something wrong.

No, the problem is that these people are OVER experienced. They expect the AI to act like their human counterparts.
  • edited May 2013
It's funny, the other day I fired it up again while wanting to waste some time while waiting for something to potentially unlock and there was at least 2 hands where I got the card to complete a hand/win where as the AI ether never did or got one swing card.

So to a lot of people's logic in this thread I must be cheating! :O
  • edited May 2013
I haven't had any problems where it seemed like the AI was cheating or had an unfair advantage. I know it feels like that some times when your losing, though.

I just got the game, the iPad version, been playing it for two days, and I have already seen some odd and fishy shit go down. Came here out of curiosity, to see what others were saying, and also to check if anyone was writing about the supposed FIVE aces they'd seen in the original Poker Night, since I'm toying with the idea of buying that game as well (wouldn't buy it, of course, if the 5 Aces thing is confirmed by more than one other distraught player). Haven't found that forum yet, but after reading everything on this one, I'm relieved to 'hear' that others are frustrated by some of what's going down in the Poker Night 2 tourneys.

I have to also say that I play hold 'em on a few online sites with real people (and I've played it in Vegas with real people as well), and sometimes on those online sites I've been suspicious that one or more of the other players was cheating, even though that's not possible - these are real people, just like me, sitting in front of their computer screens trying not to drool over the raging possibility of a straight flush - and sometimes, in the games that have a chat option, I'VE been accused of cheating, during the ultra-rare occasions when I'm on a hellacious roll.

The bottom line is, there might be something 'off' with the AI in Poker Night 2; whether it's intentional or not, I still don't know. In the two days I've played, I've won 2 Omaha tourneys and 1 Hold 'Em tourney. I actually got FOUR QUEENS in that particular Hold 'Em tourney, much to my delight (and to Ash's disgust). I think the person who wrote 'play smarter' is on to something. I always instinctively know when I'm screwing up, although I also know when I technically SHOULD win and don't, especially in this game, where they actually show the probability percentages. If it starts happening much too often to be 'reasonable' I will, sadly, uninstall the sucker.

It is human nature to make excuses when losing. Especially when they lose to AI. Now when games are progressing to direction where AI enemies start to feel/play smarter and smarter, it is not something many players are used to yet unless they like to play Chess against the challenging computer opponent or something like that.
  • edited May 2013
The "5 ACES!?!" thing is more than likely a post from a player that is not 100% familiar to poker and/or hold'em rules. I know it took hours of playing before I realized the cards beng dealt to the table was not my personal hand. I initially assumed everyone got 7 cards, 2 hidden and 5 shown. And I was boggled as to why I had a hard time figuring out how to see the others cards. >_>
  • edited May 2013
Thanks for offering a reasonable explanation for the Five Aces phenom, appreciate it.

After playing over 30 tourneys now, I see what everyone's talking about very clearly. The AI is seriously f)()ed up. I usually always make it to the one-on-one showdown, both in Hold 'em and Omaha. And almost every single f#($ing time, the opponent winds up taking me down, with some ridiculous 'magical' river card. Specific example: yesterday I had an ACE HIGH Flush, and Claptrap went all in with his ridiculous 2 and 9 - unsuited. Can't even make a straight out of that. At the river, however, lo and behold, he wound up with a full house.

This happens so often that I'm starting to lose interest in busting my hump to make it to the one-on-one showdown. Starting not to see the point any more, regardless of how much fun the game is on its own, if one can play without any attachment to the final outcome. I've been trying to do that - just play for the pure fun of it - but it becomes more and more frustrating every time. Might wind up uninstalling, unfortunately.

Just for the record: I'm not one to 'make excuses when losing' (especially to AI). I've been playing video and computer games for years, and I love the challenge of a cleverly programmed AI. In Chess, especially. This is a much different situation.

The odds against what the computer is getting is so astronomical I can only assume it is cheating. I lose every showdown no matter what the odds are - as an example, I went up against one of the computers with a hand that had the same high card and a higher low card, such as

    Ace - king

    and the computer had

    ace - 2

and then on the flop there were two 2's. This happened literally 3 times in a row (not aces and twos every time, but we both had the same high card and I had a better low). Then the very next hand one of the cpus went blind all in before the flop and got a royal flush. I have played poker for many years and I've never seen anyone get a royal flush before, getting it blind is ridiculous. I played one tournament where I lost 9 showdowns in a row where my "chances" were over 75% before the flop.

Why would anyone ever want to play a poker game that cheats? What is wrong with you, telltale?

I have the same problem. What is worse is Glados being so annoying and dealing horribly. I mean even when you have a good hand she still robs one by choosing the lower hand. Man I am starting to think this game was definitely not worth it. There comes a point where the humor and allure of playing poker with the characters becomes annoyingly repetitive. Even though this game isn't expensive I think it could have been done a whoooole lot better. Poker is a mind game and you play the players all the time not the cards you just use the cards as weapons. With bad deals and characters playing one style of play then another it just impossible to read them and hope the dealer shows up. By the way the unlocks were not even worth it. Would rather just buy the gearbox addons for my toons.

Uh, GLaDOS doesn't actually affect gameplay. She taunts the players no matter who has what cards, she isn't hinting at anything. That could be part of your problem.
