Moo Hoo Man in 203

edited July 2009 in Sam & Max
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, as a cursory google search only turned up hopes for a Moo Hoo Man appearance on these boards, but I've found a tombstone in 203 right next to (and nearly invisible as it is hidden by a cart) the Sobrero tombstones which says

"Moo Hoo Man. 1972-1978. Peace at last."

I don't know who Moo Hoo Man is, I don't get the reference at all, but I figure someone will take solace in this discovery considering all the hopes and speculation about it. If this has been posted before I apologize.

Moo Hoo Man can be found here and revealed by Dave Purcell here.

    ...How did I miss this?

    Loled so hard.

So I'm still not really getting who moo hoo man is. It's a character that was slated to appear in Purcell's brothers cruddy comic, but which we can't see in the comic you posted? Why is the character legendary then?
  • edited March 2008
Because, good sir, the Sam & Max fanbase is not known for its extensive dependence on logic.

Pretty much like Sam & Max themselves, actually.

Moo Hoo Man is a cow man thing... Ask Dave Purcell he's the one who made him. :)

Moo Hoo Man isn't legendary outside some in-jokes in the office and on these forums, he's just a weird reference to one of the first ever Sam & Max comics, drawn by Steve Purcell's brother.

It does! Look at the links I posted above.

I just discovered this old thread.

Seymour and Oscar were two of Moo Hoo Man's buddies. The trio weren't crime fighters; they were just ancillary characters, usually appearing together. Steve and I were Marx Brothers fans so there was probably a Marx Brothers influence by way of Looney Tunes and Mad Magazine. I can dig up an image if anybody's interested.

Ooo! Ooo! I'm interested! Please post. ^^

Well I'll be a ring-tailed monkey! Upon further investigation, I discovered, the character I had posted last year as Moo Hoo Man turn out to actually be Oscar. Moo Hoo Man is just a big nosed guy wearing a minimal Greek-style laurel leaf (just one leaf over each ear). I still need to scan the pics from the old comic books, and I will soon.

Incidentally, Seymour, Oscar, and Moo Hoo Man were also known as The Three Zots. The Three Zots were featured not only in Sam & Max comics, but in Clyde and Joe Comics (detectives, the human precursors to Sam & Max), and also in Quelunzipanium Comics (starring Captain Quelinzipanium, a guy in a cape, floppy hat, and round glasses, loosely based on John Lennon in Magical Mystery Tour).

    Oh man, continuity scandal!

Thanks for taking the time to come by and share this stuff. It's amazing that you still have the comics you drew as a kid.

also I think I saw Moo Hoo Man's name on the cubicle next to SCP in 205.
  • edited July 2009
You're correct, the name is indeed on a cubicle :p, Moo Hoo Man needs to be animated, and a playable character!

Apologies for the previous Moo Hoo Man misinformation. This should clear things up.

Here's Moo Hoo Man in jail (though I'm not sure what he did to get there).

Here are The Three Zots (Seymour, Moo Hoo Man, and Oscar, and Seymour's Pet Xylipel).

And here are some pages from the Sam & Max comic book from which these other images appeared.

Heh. I just noticed Sally was actually Sam's sister, not girlfriend.

    "THIS IS A FIGHT"

    lol:D

Wow! This is great stuff (especially for the Wiki)!

I would like to see a random stranger's (to the Sam & Max universe) impression of us getting giddy over "some children's drawings". XD

Does Rocky Raccoon have any relation to The Beatles song?

Of course! We played the Beatles' "White Album" a lot when I was a kid.

Dave, thanks so much for coming back to post more. This is wonderful stuff!

Also, "dvdprcll" should become the "dmnkly" of Sam & Max. Seriously. Maybe.

...I read the dialogue in the top panel as "HMM HMM I'M A DOG". I guess I shouldn't be online so early in the morning

Those comics are great! Will we learn more about how Moo Hoo landed in jail, will the fake Sam get caught? And is that a monkey man behind the counter in this comic?

    No, he's just poorly shaded.
