Until Season 2...

edited May 2013 in The Walking Dead
ok so there's some other zombies game coming out soon that are totally different from TWD but are shaping to be phenomenal in their own genres:

1- State of Decay: I cant put into words how super amazing this game is looking. OPEN WORLD, base building, morale management, resource gathering game in a 16km sandbox. Limited resources, 99% enterable/lootable buildings, can call on your cell (survivalist camp) members to pick up food if you're too far out/ too burdened to handle it all yourself. Can build medical facilities, combat training, kitchens, bedding areas (provided you've gathered all the resources).
Release ETA: 6/5 - Yes, next week- highly recommend checking this out

2- Dead State: This one is more traditional 3/4 top down isometric 'wasteland meets zombies' but it has nice features like a dB rating on firearms, too high of a dB and more zombies enter the map- focuses more on your stats and abilities; turn based combat- more strategical, more about maintaining morale and social apects of survivng the ZA, keeping noise levels down.
Release ETA: 10/13

I think people who would enjoy TTG:TWD would appreciate these types of games more because they both focus on managing your base and the mental/physical well being of your survivors and neither one is about combat or doing anything silly when in the presence of zombies. Two totally different approaches to the same genre, with enough time to play one and then move on to the other while waiting for Season 2

Looking forward to state of decay, but there's even more coming, not exactly with zombies, but a seemingly fair challenger for TWD in terms of atmosphere, and characters... maybe even melancholy?
"The Last of Us" unfortunately for PS3 only, but therefore microsoft-gamers get state of decay exclusively. With the protagonist being a strong, presumably rather normal, middle aged man, who definitely seems as if he has been trough much already... it's the apocalypse after all. Your partner is a teenage girl, if I remember correctly, she's 14, but just like Clem she's probably dependant on the protagonist. If both characters are as well written as we expect it from Naughty Dog, then that game has Game of the Year potential. As for the combat, we don't have zombies, but infected and rogues, or in other words dirty fucking bandits to deal with. Release date is set for the 14th of june.

I am really looking forward to State of Decay, it will be everything the Walking Dead Survival Instincts was not, which means it will keep me alive until Season 2.
