I certainly hope Telltale does some significant upgrades to their engine for TWD or TWAU. I have a decent setup and I noticed a lot of lag at certain sections in TWD. I don't care much about the graphics but I do care about good optimization.
I think it could be improved at least, to prevent stuttering in some areas, maybe sharpen the edges of things a little, but definitely stick to the comic look.
The day Telltale will use a brand new Engine, their sales will go up with every screenshot...
They're sticking with cel-shading style because they can't afford too much polygons on screen....

I have a fairly old PC and i was able to run the game at near max settings with no stuttering anywhere. That seems to be a hit and miss kind of thing, people on all platforms are mixed between having no stuttering, some stuttering, or nothing but stuttering.

Or they want to stay true to the comic series the entire game is based on.

Absolutely.
But the fact is that other TT games that demanded a more photorealistic experience were visually not so good. I mean CSI games were embarassing even at their launch day. So they covered bad engine graphics with "Hey, we wanna be in a comic!" filters, so they did Law&Order stuff. That was even worse.
