what would you do?

edited July 2013 in The Walking Dead
i know the game tries to give you that decision, in a dramatic and thematic fashion (love the choices btw). but right after clem saves me, i'd try and secure the house, then scavenge the area for supplies. long term goals would be self sustaining fortress, and diminishing the zombie numbers.

so step one would be tools (already have the hammer thanks to clem), then boards and such, then food and medical supplies. it was very lucky that lee ran into a doctor so early. food production would be a top priority, so starting a garden would be important as well as building a water supply. then gathering cement and other materials for a more robust fortification.

if everything went smoothly (like that would happen) i would be well on my way to surviving the apocalypse.

so the question is what would you guys do (not knowing what you know from the game)?

I probably wouldn't risk staying in the city, especially if I had the responsibility of protecting Clem.
The whole area around the house was definitely infested with tons of walkers. I don't think it would be an easy feat to fortify that house, the hammering would bring all the walkers to them.

We'd find a car, some food and extra gas before hitting the road looking for a more secure area, a home to fortify and possible to grow our own food, and near a water source obviously. Also not a farm, bad things happen at farms.

I'd make sure to train Clem for survival and with luck find someone like Carley to make a strong and trustworthy group. I'm sure she would want to look for her parents, but in time she would understand that even if they are alive they wouldn't want her to risk getting killed on an impossible search for them.

Eventually the zombie's numbers would dwindle down due to decomposition and no more food to nom. At that point we would be free travel anywhere we wanted, make the best lives possible with such uncertain futures ahead.

I like this question of what we would do if we found ourselves in a real ZA but I realize TWD doesnt allow us all these options or decisions because it's a story we are meant to follow and expirence.

I dont really want to promote any other game, but what you are asking about is possible in State of Decay. It puts you in the world of a ZA, where survival if the key focus, and you do gather equipment, meds, food etc. I Like it because it is mostly very realistic.. You may have a lead pipe but can really only contend with 2 or 3 zombie for example.. Your ammo runs out, your weapons wear out. Car's are great to travel but will take damage if you hit too many things. Noise attracts zombies so think about what you should do.
State of Decay is proably the best, most realistic survive a ZA game i've ever seen.

That being said, I still prefer TWD as the best gave I've ever expirenced, but it is a story, we follow, whereas in State of Decay we find ourselves in a ZA and left to discover and survive on our own.

+1 for state of decay, I've been playing it all day.

I was playing State of Decay lastnight and actually (kinda) finished it.

I was given a mission about leaving the county we're in and upon finishing it, the credit's rolled.. The only option I saw was we can continue playing as our group but I think we have to wait for SOD 2 to move on to the next county, city whatever. I still enjoy playing it, I guess my mission now is to just stockpile everything I can, kill as many zombies as possible but I dont know if all my progress will carry over to the next. Hell, I dont even know if thier is a next part coming.. I hope so.

I played the HELL out of State of Decay, it kept me going during the wait for the Walking Dead, I would proudly say it's my second favorite zombie game, sorry if I am advertising it Telltale.

I wouldn't have stayed in the house. I'd have gone to get help, like in the game, because Lee was injured AND had Clem to look after. And since you get thrown off Hershel's Farm no matter what, I guess I would have travelled much the same route that Lee did during Season 1.

I found the AI in the game to be really dumb. Zombies got stuck in things... which ruined the atmosphere for me :(

That was always a problem, but name me a great game that did not have bugs and glitches, this was also the studios first try and it was a large open world.

Never said it was bad, just said it was let down by the AI.
