why when they opend the door to get the pills, why there was a ring?

    The pills were in a secure area, hence the solid metal door which couldn't be hacked through with the axe. The door will have had contacts on linked to an intruder alarm to alert staff etc of people trying to break in to steal drugs, such as addicts out for methodone or whatever they needed to get their fix.

    He didn't have contact with his parents for a long time, so they could have changed the alarm system and he wouldn't know. Or he could have simply forgotten about it depending on how long he was away.

    i put it down to 'heat of the moment no one thought about it being alarmed :P
